Why are you so sure?
The Higurashi VNs are pretty darn awesome too.

Cos the umineko bgms and the story are better than higurashi's. Even character designs're better better than Higurashi; look at the character's hands at least.

Why did you vote for Umineko?

You might be right about bgms (though I heard mangagamer changed some bgm)But you are judging higurashi based on the anime. The story is alot better in the VN.That's why I said "do not vote before reading the VNs".Well I do prefer Umineko's story because it has magic and witches and trollfaces and DID meidos...you know, all the other weird stuff..And the art...Well I like Ryuukishis muffin hands. And in Higurashi they are not any copy/paste faces (I'm looking at you Kinzo) besides Sh/mion.But they are twins.Overall I do agree with you though.Guess I should have said that earlier.

oh, and why did I vote for umineko?
Well, I didn't.And I won't before I finish Kai.

I'm about to finish Higurashi now. It's a really really diffucult choice bıt I'll go with Umineko.Higurashi is great. But has lots of boring parts(all that stuff about f r i e n d s h i p, and I thought the romance in umineko was cheesy). Also the bgm is not half as awesome as in umineko :P

I would have to say Umineko, without a doubt. Although Higurashi still was pretty awesome.

Umineko is a work of art, that's for sure. Higurashi was also great

Both of them are truly awesome, but I'd have to vote Umineko. It's my favorite story of all time. Aside from the story, I also like Umineko's music better (though Kai still had very good music). The only aspect where Higurashi wins is in its cast of characters, and in their light-hearted scenes with the club. But overall, Umineko wins for me.

As soon as I finish Higurashi I'll be able to make a proper argument. ;_; But really, ugh, both are works of art for its story, characters, and impact.

Umineko has it's flaws, but it's much more layered and mature than Higurashi. I also like the cast there a lot more. Of course, i like Higurashi too, but it doesn't reach the same levels even at it's best.

It makes sense for Umineko to be deeper and more radical than Higurashi. Ryukishi-shi had more experience when writing it :)

I only watched the Higurashi anime - season 1 and 2. (Not the other side stuff/OVAs.) Didn't read the VNs.

For Umineko I read the VNs (before the anime started). Then watched the anime.

Liked the 2nd season of Higurashi more - because there was more explanation of the story and at the end some solution. The arcs in season 1 seemed boring compared to that.

I don't know how it was in the VN - since I haven't read it (not interested because I know the story already from the anime). But might have been different/opposite (me liking the 1st half more).

At least for Umineko I thought that way - for the novels. After reading all that stuff and the repetitions/arcs ... that end after EP08 was not that satisfying. (1st half more enjoyable.) But the anime which adapted the 1st half - was boring compared to the novels. Especially the sound helped creating a very good atmosphere. (I think they even call it "Sound Novel".) Much better than in the anime.

Since I prefer the village/mansion settin over some village I voted for Umineko. I doubt reading the Higurashi VN could change my mind.

That was some years ago. (Higurashi anime and Umineko novels when I watched/read them.)
I just recently read Higanbana and Rose Guns Days. Have to say: They were A LOT BETTER.

Higanbana not too complex. At the end you don't think "omg why did I have to read all those previous arcs just to get this end - that could have happened faster" like it happened for me with Umineko. Knowing Ryukishis style from Umineko might also have helped a bit. I knew you just had to try to explain all the supernatural stuff with normal stuff and that he is just fooling the reader or the chars even fool themselves sometimes. (Psychological.)

Might have been the best work if he decided to explain the real world stuff a bit more.

Rose Guns Days totally different but it had overwhelmingly good OST and supercool chars (not even Sakamoto could beat them ha ha). Mini games weren't necessary. The different style (text boxes instead of text all over the screen) and char design was nice. Plot a bit longer but no supernatural and c omplicated stuff. Nice. Still it felt a bit rushed towards the end. (Last 1-2 chapters.)

Too bad this isn't getting an anime. A good director and voice actors probably could do a lot with those cool chars (+ if they somehow managed to get license to use the VN OST in the anime). This is the one I want to see animated most of the stuff not animated yet (Umineko 2nd half, Higanbana and RGD).

Umineko destroys Higurashi. It's infinitely better, period no debate.
