Lol TV Tropes disagrees. And if both Star and Punie can go from being sweet and cutesy to berserk bad-ass princess, I must disagree as well. Truthfully, I can't really think of a character (anime or otherwise) who is EXACTLY like Star Butterfly....and that's why she is so awesome. |

She acts zany and overly energetic all the time and that carries over into her fighting. Also even before she fought the monsters she wanted to fight the drinking fountain when she now met Marco which showed that she isn't just all cutesy plus when she made the rainbow and it caught on fire it was obvious she isn't just a cutesy normal princess.DrGeroCreation said: Chiibi said: *sighs* Dude...............Star VS The Forces of Evil IS absolutely anime-influenced because the creator said so herself. You're focusing too much on the little details though. If you remove the split personality part, they have a similar character type: cute yet badass. Actually, Star is able to calm down once in a while to have serious discussions with Marco and other characters and it is normally those very "real" moments that make me really like the show. Gives it depth. |

I get that, I understand that. but it's such a weird thing to say "But then they love cartoons like fairy god parents. How the hell? ", when it's pretty obvious(edit: at least if your in america). Like, the people who watch stuff like fairy odd parents(an american cartoon) are 1. around 10 years old, usually 2. watching it because it's on their television, 10 or not. Which is a completely different thing from people who actively seek out animated shows from another country via buying it, on the web or via download. Most people who say the title phrase are mostly unfamiliar with anime outside of small doses from 500 episodes series like bleach on like the 15 minute mark of episode 250 on adult swim or something. edit: like, the question is "why do people watch cartoons they know that airs on convenient times rather than ones that don't air at all/air at inconvenient times " and "why don't people watch cartoons that were made for the people with a different culture, language and country" basically. It's silly to ask this question just because "it's better and i think it looks prettier". edit: That's not to say Japan's culture is anything like it's cartoons or that "Western" countries cultures are anything like it's cartoons, and that it's super-hard for people to understand something not of their culture(duuh this is an anime listing site) but you get the point. |

DrGeroCreation said: Female characters having lips and noses makes the character designs better than female anime characters to me. Tired of lazy huge eyes no nose no lips shit. Well I personally prefer the "simplistic" style (huge eyes, tiny nose, tiny lips) over the "detailed" one. However there are plenty of anime drawn in the detailed style that I love (e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Mononoke Hime, etc.) DrGeroCreation said: anobaka said: Felidae, the Rabbi's cat, Batman Year 1, Justice League Gods and Monsters are just as good. If you automatically hate anything to do with superheroes then too bad for you. Also the anime you listed are very rare in anime now. Non mecha sci fi is a minority in anime. Harems, moe girl school anime and fantasy LN adaptions are far more popular and widespread. The things you mentioned represent just a fraction of anime range. With western cartoons I cannot find great stuff like Cowboy Bebop, Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell, Planetes etc. Since I hate superhero crap and Disney fairy-tales, I am pretty much out of options when it comes to western cartoons. The category I listed might be less produced in anime industry but at least it exist. On the other hand, in western cartoons it is non-existent. |

| "graphics" The word you're looking for is art. Some people favor cartoons over anime for a multitude of reasons, they think of anime as perverted highschool sexual joke filled comedy shows, and you only have the influx of them and the idiotic fans of them to blame. Some also just don't like an overarching story. |

| @anobaka Ok sure but it's hypocritical how anime fans always stereotype cartoons as being unrealistic yet still have no problem with limited facial features and exaggerated eyes which is not realistic on anime characters. That style in anime was common in the 90's and early 2000's but is somewhat rare to find now while with DC superhero cartoons it's super common presently. It does exist in western cartoons. Aeon Flux, Titan AE, Star Wars Clone Wars, Galaxy Rangers, Gandahar, Renaissance, Kaena. |

| I've never heard anybody say that but when I was in High school Some Students didn't get what was so good about anime but then they would star talking nostalgically about cartoons from the early 2000's and late 90's, I'm not sure if they still watched cartoons though. Many people like Disney movies because they are mainstream, Some people might just dislike anime because they haven't seen an anime that they like and assume that all anime is like that. |

Cartoon is limited (Not too much gore and almost no ecchi for example) 4. Characterization (in cartoons I don't see a lot of psychos like Gasai Yuno ,lol) So why do people like cartoons? Or for kids in general. Like Tom and Gerry, Mickey Mouse, Sponge bob, etc. And I really hate it when people saw me watching DC Comics and Marvel Comics animated series. A lot of SOL anime like Azumanga and Galaxy Angel share similarities with Western cartoons - following the life of a silly cast. Western cartoons tend to be big on child-friendly content, so don't expect a lot of violence or sexuality. They also tend to be more episodic. I don't think one is better than the other. There is a wildness of Western cartoon, a freedom that the minimalist art gives them that anime lacks sometimes. |

Bungou Stary Dogs Magi: Sinbad no Bouken Of those, I'm only familiar with Haikyuu and Shokugeki no Souma (read the manga for this one). And I can honestly say they are nowhere near Steven Universe's greatness. Actually, the first episodes of the SnS anime are inferior to the manga, because it exaggerates the comedy way too much. Also, I dunno about the anime, but the Shingeki no Kyojin manga is really bad, I dropped it. I'm saying one, because that's the one that is most worth mentioning imo, but there's others as well that are very good: Wander over Yonder, We Bare Bears, Svtfoe, Gargoyles... I can't say much because I haven't watched that many cartoons, nor have I watched that many anime (in fact, I've watched more anime than cartoons) And look, I'm not trying to say cartoons>anime, just that they have the same potential. If you have a prejudice against cartoons, you'll be missing lots of good things. When I saw SU for the first time, I thought it was bad or bland and boring, and that kinda kept on until I passed the 25th episode. Then, it took a 180 degree turn, using those first 25 episodes as a build up, and practically keeping its quality consistent since then. Now it's one of the best pieces of fiction I've seen in my life. |
