Amazing numbers for Osomatsu-san Vol.1 with an event ticket bundled. 79,108 is very close to the record holder in terms of first week sales, which was Love Live 2nd Season Vol.1 at 82,515. Will be interesting on how numbers hold up from Vol.3 and onwards, which don't have event tickets bundled, but Osomatsu-san is definitely the top seller of the Fall 2015 Season. |

Say hello to Osomatsu-san, the new block buster of the industry. Incredible sales. Overlord in 5th volume and still managing 10k week 1, lol. Good numbers for OPM too, 8.5k for vol2. |

Well, ain't that crazy. If I'm not mistaken, 79k is right up there with Bake, Eva and LL as far record breaking first week sales are concerned. Heard a lot of great things about this series but I'm not interested in watching it at all though, it's 7.8 score here on MAL is rather low, and my taste generally aligns with MAL's when it comes to recent shows. Still, I can't help but be amazed by this success. This seriously gives a whole new meaning to the word "breakout." It seems like reviving nostalgic/decades old franchises will become the new fad among studios both in Japan and the West (I'm looking at you, Star Wars and Jurassic World). I think this is the first time that a Monogatari main series won't be the best seller of its season. Now I wonder whether Osomatsu will sell enough with its subsequent volumes to crack the rare 50k average or if the event ticket skews the sales of this first volume by a lot. As for the rest of the list, I'm still impressed by the consistency of Overlord really, it's been selling over 10k in its first week with almost every volume. |

Osomatsu's sales are scary... Good hold for OPM volume 2, I could see it reach 10k like the first one. |
5 main aspects I base my ratings on: 1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it? 2. Is it better than Breaking Bad? 3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it? 4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL? 5. Is it actually good? Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant... |

Why would that have any bearing on a volume that has an event ticket bundled? Yes, the base number of sales for Vol.3 and onwards could be because of the old style artwork, as I have heard that some female fans do not seem to mind this sort of artwork. However, the sales will not be at this sort of numbers by Vol.3 and onwards as i'm sure everyone has seen that sales dropped by around 50~70% for UtaPri 3 after the event ticket Vol.1 and 2. |

The first episode has already been taken down because of a hundred copyright infringements (it was a huge parody of bunch of other anime). The whole series is just about random nonsensical things happening and characters screaming and punching each others. That''s all. Watch the trailer on Osomatsu's MAL page, than imagine those things going on 23 minutes x 17 episodes. |

For other series popular with females (see Boueibu for example in 2015), this is still the case, but for others such as UtaPri, it has been a gradual shift from the DVD to BD format as more upgrade to BD players. Take a look at the BD to DVD sales ratio for the first 3 seasons of UtaPri... in 2011 DVD was still majorly favoured over BD, even if the other parts of the anime fanbase were already shifting to the BD format. 2013, BD was now the more preferred format for female fans, and 2015 slightly more so.
