Character at the beginning weak than Badass?

Jup, I knew that many Shounen have this, but I want it a little bit more complex.

I am looking for an Anime where the MC or an important (>90% of all episodes screentime) character is becoming stronger and stronger and then really turns badass.
I don´t mean it in the term "Yeah he won that match with 1 point!" or Boxing Anime with only barely an difference in power.
I want an real difference in power and the person becomes more selfish and confident about his powers and uses them.
He should be able to "play" with his enemies.
But it doesn´t mean that he is the strongest of all...

If the "Powerman" is not himself strong but with help (Dragondictator, Mecha, etc) it´s welcome.
And nothing where he is only to use his powers for "Power of Friendship" or in ultimate Rage

Eg.: Tokyo Ghoul (Manga...)
Bleach (Aizen, but no MC; Ichigo, too late and only for a few episodes :()
Gantz (Manga) <<<<<

HxH, ...doesn´t fit since it happend so late and he lost everything after one usage.... (Characters like Merum would be awesome!)

Preferably Anime, Manga is okay too...

##It heavily depends when I watched it. So something from five years ago would get now definitely an different Score than then.
##Dislike most Comedy-Shows and over the top wimp-guys. #"wrong" behavior in important Situations. #Characters who always have the same dumb personality/or want to help the enemy
