Mobile application developer Cygames announced at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2015 that its Android and iOS RPG fantasy mobile game Granblue Fantasy will be adapted into anime. Cygames producer Kouichi Haruta revealed that the animation production will be done by A-1 Pictures and Aniplex. Further details about the anime will be revealed at Cygames' September 20 stage event at TGS. Guests at that event include Miyuki Sawashiro, who voices Catalina Alize in the game. Granblue Fantasy began its service in December 2013 on the Mobage platform and features music by Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu. It uses turn-based battles with characters of different classes gaining levels through experience and using various abilities. Animation studio Lay-duce previously produced a promotion movie for the game. Game PV Source: Dengeki Online Granblue Fantasy on MAL |

Maybe it's kind of warranted. Too bad MAPPA can't do this one instead since they've proven themselves multiple times now when it comes to action and fantasy titles. They actually might give a damn about things other than pure profit motive. Not like there's a lack of fantasy titles coming out these days anyhow. |

God bless Cygames. Bringing up them fantasies. However, I'm a little disappointed with A-1 being in charge of this one. I don't like the character designs they use in shows like Gate, A.Z. The Game PV is also done by them, right? Well, if the scenery in the anime looks as awesome as that I think I can bear the characters designs. We'll have to see, but if MAPPA were in charge of this one, oh boyyy. |

The Game PV is also done by them, right? Well, if the scenery in the anime looks as awesome as that I think I can bear the characters designs. Game PV is done by Lay-Duce, but just in general there's a huge difference between doing a game PV and running a whole TV show. Considering the complexity of the artwork for this one which is supplied by Square Enix veteran Hideo Minaba and how A-1 noticeably scales down the level of detail and glossiness of character designs at the best of times I wouldn't expect the anime to resemble the games look terribly much. The highly detailed card art is one of the main draws of cell phone games period, a lot of it looks undeniably appealing at least to my eyes. That translated pretty well with Shingeki no Bahamut because they got a really adept experienced director, character designer and composer team to take full advantage of what they were given to work with. A-1 by comparison to MAPPA kind of exists as a pure grunt studio whose job is to take on and animate as many adaptations for popular properties (they seem to prefer more recent stuff in the last 1-3 years whose popularity has just peaked) for the purposes of promoting them as quickly as possible. I like to think of them as the Acclaim of Japanese animation which I'm hoping isn't too old school a reference for most people here to understand what I'm getting at. I don't expect much like I might if this were another Cygames/MAPPA teamup and figure they were chosen more for the fact that Aniplex has published the games soundtracks and for their marketing prowess which has sold many a crappy or mediocre at best anime to many a fool over the last several years. Like the show might suck, but goddamn if they won't drown the potential audience in claims of just how awesome it will be and is and how they should totally send their money their way or to their client be it CyGames, Kadokawa, Bandai Namco Games, Shueisha etc. |

Those don't really exist much anymore unfortunately outside of maybe Arslan Senki, though that might be because it's an adaptation of a novel series from the 80's and 90's. That sort of stuff isn't as marketable and trendy anymore as say the battle harem fantasy type stuff or at least the producers seem to think so since they refuse to try it much anymore. Sad but just kind of the reality of where anime has been going. It's funny I actually agree though, there's really not a whole lot of that sort of stuff anymore. It also doesn't need to be any more generic and cliche than the battle harem or erotic fantasy stuff that we tend to see more of nowadays. It all comes down to what you do with a premise, not just it's initial setup and surface appeal. The early footage will be as eye-catching and glossy as possible, the whole point of a trailer is to attract peoples attention. What really matters more is how it looks going forward, something you can't tell until you're a good 7-8 episodes in to something. |

Gotta love the persistent butthurt about A-1; it's almost as certain as the butthurt about every LN adaptation ever. Anyway, with this being Cygames I have high hopes that this will be good, but I have to admit I'd be more confident if Mappa were working on it. Either way, I can't wait. |

^Will a PV for the anime be released soon? Anyways, I really dig the art style for the game PV, hopefully they maintain it in the anime. Also, I've got no complaints about A-1 as long as this isn't a very battle-centric anime. |
5 main aspects I base my ratings on: 1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it? 2. Is it better than Breaking Bad? 3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it? 4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL? 5. Is it actually good? Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant... |

Considering the only mobage adaptation to really be worth something has been Bahamut so far(and that is mainly because based MAPPA took the barebones ideas from mobage and created their own story and characters with them), the worry is well founded. Usually it is just your generic advert full of waifus. |

You can already see just by looking at the screenshots above they're not and converting it to their own usual cost cutting simple detail art style ala SAO.
