Actually no. Apparently those 176 are worldwide. Somehow it sold more than inside Japan.

Proof ?? I don't believe a manga sold 100 million + copies outside of Japan

Vagabond -> 1998(1st year of One Piece)
NANA -> 2005
Death Note, Nodame Cantabile -> 2006

So it was the top dog in
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004
2007
2008
2009

This is 9 years at the top before Strong World. Also notice that the 3 years right before the Movie it was 1st. So tell me how it wasn't the Top Dog?

Dragon Ball ended in 1995, Slam Dunk ended in 1996. 2 and 1 year before One Piece, respectively. So why bringing them, when their volumes weren't even selling, significantly during that time. Also note that One Piece surpassed Slam Dunk best volume 1st print record as soon as 2002.

Eh what?
1999 > Meitantei Conan, Rurouni Kenshin
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1378429
2001 > Vagabond
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1373118

7 years. I'm comparing One Piece now to one piece before that boost.

Now:
1st at the end year consistently
1st at total volume sales

Then:
not as consistent
not first at total volume sales

Because I was including total volume sales.Who cares about prints. It had more volumes than it, but lower sales.

Without the movie boost, would one piece be as dominate now? No, not even close <<<< my point

Your 1999 data says Oricon back issues, that is mega inaccurate.
Your 2001 data says Nakahara BL that is just a shop conglomerate.

Also you said it wasn't Top dog before the movie. So you're talking of 2009, 2008, 2007, ...
All these 3 years One Piece was above all series in both Total and per volue. So are you saying that 3 consecutively years in the top isn't enough for a series to be declared TOP DOG?

It was both! The boost started in Sabaondy Island in 2008. We know that before the Movie it broke the record of 1st print(that was is) 1 time, with volume 56 printing 2.85 Million, with the movie it got a reinforcement to the already existent boost, getting around 500k new reader in 2010( and continuing until 2012.

In the end the boost was due to the amazing combination of Manga-Anime-Movie.

Without taking into account Black Jack. Dragonball has the higgest average worldwide.

I font believe that i have never seen anything like that, also I have never seen Black Jack in any France , Us or German sight ever. And that would mean it sold more globally than Dragonball, Naruto and One Piece together. Totally impossible.

Yes it did but not THAT much like you say because even Naruto Movies gross almost that much its nothing special.

No they don't! Naruto best movie Boruto did around 2.4 Billion Yen, and they normally do around 1 Billion. Strongworld movie did 4.8 Billion, double of Naruto best movie ever(and 4.8 times more than all its movie average).

There is some link to a worldwide movie or something. Japanese wiki doesn't have mangazenkan as source.

bruh sometimes i think your only here to hate on piece, then when you dont find anything that stomps One piece in the manga market you go to a american comic from 1963 that had 1. much more time to get those sales 2. mannnyyy films and advertisement worldwide. 3. much bigger audience because everything produced i america is popular worldwide and ameica itself has 3 times the population of japan just saiyan.:DDD

Yeah it may be off subject but I just wanted to say that. One Piece ain't the only series to break records.

That number was wrong. Why do people still go by that number. Osamu Tezuka most popular and best selling series was Astro Boy A.K.A Tetsuwan Atom that sold around 100 Million copies with 21 volumes, and so with 4.76 copies per volume. Though notice how old is Astro Boy is and how many extra edition it has since 1968(47 years).

The Black Jack error was already corrected in ages by the website that reported it . The guys in the Wikipedia just don't change it.

You think that Black jack sold 3 times the amount of Dragonball wordlwide only in asia? wtf 100 million sales is impossible for any series to break outside from japan, especially a not very popular one like Black Jack.

At the beginning it updated really fast after news about series print, but now it seems they just wait for big news/numbers about the titles to update.
Basically they have that list to guide their customers in buying the series, not to be 100% current 100% of the time.

No i only have this one, and why get so angry now. This is just our hobby i think and its to have fun. Okay so Dragonball hasnt got higher sales on average. 157 million divided by 42 are something like 3.2 million per volume, and notice how it got so much more time to do this number per volumes. One Piece 320 million divided by lets say 80, that would be 4 million and One Piece many more years so it willl just get more sales per volumes. Also Dragonball was more popular than One Piece outside of Japan, but right now One Piece sells better in every Country in the world besides Us and uk probably. But overall sales Dragonball is still higher than One Piece outside of Japan but not right now.

Are you borderline mentally challenged and can't read properly?

I'm talking about worldwide
one piece = 4 million
DB= 5 million average

It's impossible for One Piece to catch up to Dragonball or Naruto. It only sells 100k prints per volume in France which is it's biggest sales outside of Japan.

After five weeks of sale (regular edition only):

27. *38,735 1,385,029 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.12
13. *57,829 1,635,625 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.13
13. *,*47,863 1,621,051 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.14

04. *73,207 1,528,535 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol. 16
08. *54,530 1,621,232 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.17

So SNK vol 13 remains the fastest selling Snk so far.

and people where saying snk was loosing sales, when volume 17 is the second fastest selling volume in five weeks. As I've said before the best way to know if a series is loosinng sales or not is to wait until the end of the year. there is when you can compare this year sales to last year.

look at one piece last year December for example, it sold over 3.2 million in like 5 weeks or something like that. correct me if I'm wrong. now look at volume 78, struggling to reach 3 million. Is it because one piece is loosing sales? nope, not likely, its just that a lot of people didn't rush out to buy the volume this time around. and that is also why its been on the list this long because fans are slowly buying it.

Naruto,Dragon Ball,Bleach, SNK .... and many others had and are having movies adaptation but they are'nt getting half a million new fans.

Either way One Piece was already bigger than normal before it,reaching 100 million copies in japan by it's 36 volume, passing Dragon Ball as the quickest manga to reach 100 million copies(Dragon Ball only did it after it end 42 volumes)

Oh look another one, they are like worms.

It was because it's Toei, it's advertisement and marketing, that's how mega success happens. None of those movies had advertisement of the author writing the movie or w/e that was. Dragonball? Lol? why would a DB movie boost sales for a finished manga now? man the stuff one piece fans writes make me just want to cry for human intelligence.

Fact is, the boost came from Strong world.

No It wasn't.

When did I deny it came from Strong World or not,and what's the problem in first place that an movie gives manga a boost?

>None of those movies had advertisement of the author writing the movie

Umh yes it did, both Naruto the last and Boruto had,and especially Dragon Ball battle of Gods and ressurection of F.

> why would a DB movie boost sales for a finished manga now?

Yeah I mean it's not like Parasyte had a manga sales boost due to an adaptation right.

And even tough I do believe Strong World did a great boost, saying it's a fact it's a little of a strong world can I get a source for you saying that?

you know that's bullshit. This year alone both OreMono & overlord are popular & hit.

You know it's the truth.

Not to get into semantic. But there is a difference between popular and huge. New Madhouse is incapable of producing hits.

OreMono and overlord are mildly popular, not a hit, that's literally it.

> Madhouse is incapable of producing hits.

again, that's not true. I can refute that but since you seem so adamant in your opinion, I wont bother.
Imagine a berserk anime by Yoshiaki kawajiri at Madhouse.

Now take a look at Berserk (2016).

YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION TO CRY.

Okay, I've just noticed that it's not just Toriko but also To love Ru and everything released this week which sold less than usual. The Summer break ended last week in two major Japanese regions (Shibuya and Shinagawa) so maybe that can explain this phenomenon, let's wait for next week.

What do u mean?
That students had to get back to school after the summer holiday and that might have had an impact on the sales (negatively).

So I'm expecting Toriko to have a strong second week (perhaps bigger than first even, which is quite a rarity for a three day first week).
