...I haven't read any of the Sherlock Holmes books...although i did see one the other day in the book store...It was pretty LARGE! :P
But do you think the movie will be something like the book!?

just from watching the trailer I can guarantee you that it is nothing like any sherlock holmes novel or short story. they just made a funny movie and used the name sherlock holmes for it xD
somehow I'm not surprised that you haven't read any holmes stories..... 8D

Anecdote from today:

I'm sleeping, having some very nice dream about world peace.

My mother suddenly bangs on my door and crashes into my room like a mad woman.

Within 0,00001 seconds I'm standing upright in my bed, heart beating like crazy, head still half asleep, thinking that a) the flat is on fire or b) someonoe died or c) Johnny Depp is standing outside our apartment (okay, maybe I wasn't dreaming about world peace after all 8D)

With a hurried "HERE! TAKE THIS!" she thrusts a letter at me.

I look down at it and see that it is from my first-choice university.

Praying to Dende I open the letter and---

if you change by the end of your second year you usually still have enough time to complete everything without any problem. there's no added time or courses necessary, usually people would be taking their core requirements during those first couple of years anyway.

I'm not entirely sure how it works in the States but as far as I know you have a broader curriculum at college than we do at university.
If I want to change my major from Japanese Studies to, say, .... American Studies or Biology or whatever I have to start over again. Because students here only take classes in their minor and major. Which, for me, would be classes required for Japanese Studies and Politics.

We have general education courses as well as requirements for your major when you declare one. If majors overlap in their prerequisites, then it's not hard to change majors. Maybe take an extra course or two. If they don't then you have to take the prereqs for the major you change to. Alot of people don't even declare a major over here till their second or third year.

like I thought. it is different. we have to decide on a major and for some subjects also on a minor or a second major, no general education.

I'll have to study 2 semesters in Japan anyways. if I do good I could study in the states later on.
but that would be too expensive for me lol (:

I'll have to survive university in germany first, then I'll see what I do. already got my eyes set on leaving germany though. at least for a few years.

I already know that i'll feel pretty silly because I'm so tall. a friend of mine was there for 2 months, she's as tall as me and she said she felt like godzilla most of the time. don't fancy that for the rest of my life XD

Well that's only two years, and you'll most likely have learned enough Japanese by then to have gotten by, and after that you'll know four languages, which is quite an accomplishment for anyone.

I'd say my spanish comprehension is at a steady 40 % (of what I once knew) right now. I'm planning on improving or at least preserving what is left of it though.

Then I wouldn't need spoiler buttons, which you are slowly learning to resist.
I could just say whatever I wanted 8D

But really I'd have nothing to reply to anymore because I wouldn't understand a word. I'll better hold on to my English then lol

I gave up on learning German six years ago due to having difficulty with it. Perhaps several years of study might help, I only remember the few basics, and not even grammatically correct for the most part.

I wouldn't really know but I can imagine learning German is kinda hard. The grammar is sometimes unnecessarily difficult. But on the other hand - people with less brain than you managed to do it :P

Maybe it's just because you never HAD to learn another language, whether you wanted or not?

And even if not, don't worry, you're not alone. I'd love to learn Xhosa but I know I'd be terrible at it lol
