And realistically speaking too, like I wouldn't see SAO being live-action anytime soon.

For me, I would definitely say Zankyou no Terror, it would be awesome if adapted correctly imo. Another could be Steins;Gate, I suppose.

Death Note was alright but still couldn't be compared to anime itself. Well just my opinions.

Shinsekai Yori, given a decent budget and a proper director that knows what the fuck is happening, would make for a perfect LA adaption.

Psycho-Pass, again with a decent budget and a proper director, I could see this being quite a hit.

But with the track record of anime/manga to LA, I don't want anyone touching those two series with a 10-foot pole.

I'd argue that RuroKen LA adaption is easily on equal terms with the source material. Now, if only they had adapted the Jinchuu arc, I'd give it higher marks than the anime..... for fuck's sake, someone adapt the Jinchuu arc already. I don't care if it's LA or animated, just adapt that arc already.

Shigatsu wa kimi no uso might work if they changed the setting from Japan to, say, some European country like Germany or Russia and they toned down the annoying on the characters.

FSN or F/Z Maybe, it would need a huge budget to pull off though. Especially if they include Noble Phantasm and stuff.

Steins:Gate seems more realistic, or cowboy bebop if done by the guys who did Firefly.

Edge of Tomorrow did really good rating wise, even if it didn't sell that high it was praised. So Japanese stuff into live action could work with a good director and good actors.

Shigatsu might be another good contender, if they focus on the drama and not the weird comedy bits.

Nah, I can see it working. I mean, the story of Katanagatari is quite simple, they just need to find the right cast and work on that precious chara development.

It would be hard if they adapt Penguindrum.
imagine the mindfuckery, now IRL!

the realistic fiction types like housou mousou(?)...manga/anime about trans people and shit.

Then there are the types that don't heavily depend on fantasy, science fiction, or supernatural stuff. So shows like Shinesekai Yori (maybe), Steins;gate, and Psycho Pass could do really well without the risk of looking gimmicky.

Stuff like Attack on Titans, Naruto, DragonballOne Piece, Inuyasha, or Gundams might never be able to work well in live action.

All of them (except moe ones maybe).

Unfortunately, live action has to be executed flawlessly on several departments (casting, acting, directing, special effects, etc) that aren't limited to just animation and story, therefore they're always subpar.

I don't watch as much anime as before...

Zatch Bell, lot's of good characters and action and funny moments.
Also, I was watching an old Charlie Chan movie on DVD and thought that a new, modern Charlie Chan meets Milky Holmes would be a great movie.

None, live action anime sucks ass. Especially Dragon Ball Evolution, the movie has some white boy in some cliché as setting, and Picolo looks like a discount Sinestro. Bulma, Roshi, Chi-Chi, and the granddad are fucking stupid, unoriginal characters, and boring if I may add.

The Kamehameha was also some kind of blue flame type shit instead of a ki beam. Rurouni Kenshin live action was good so anime live action could be good. Dragon Ball Evolution was so terrible because they knew literally nothing about Dragon Ball and just didn't care.

Yeah, well, that film was a disaster from the beginning. Fox only made it to keep the rights.

Give it to someone who cares, though, and we could have a great and faithful adaptation.

You should check out the Rurouni Kenshin live action . It wasn't 100% faithful to the source material but still very good.

Anything that's down to earth and not special effects intensive can be done successfully and pretty easily like romance, comedies, mysteries, thrillers. and non super-powered action shows like Black Lagoon.

Science fiction and fantasy would require talent and much more special effects but can also be done.

Mecha I would have said, absolutely not, to immediately until I saw Pacific Rim and Edge of Tomorrow, but those changed my mind.

Good anime live action I've seen:

While most adaptations would definitely suck, some shows like Psycho-Pass, Steins; Gate and maybe even Hellsing would do well as Hollywood productions because the studios and production crews in the States will have no problem recreating the whole show for a live-action portrayal. The real problem comes not from lack of good directors or talent, it's the fucking producers who keep interfering with the creative department of a certain movie in the works. Like for example, what happened to that recent Fantastic Four movie? 20th Century Fox interfered too much and now the movie is considered one of the worst comic book movies of all time.

Just in case, people are thinking that there has never been any anime-related material that was decently adapted by Hollywood, don't forget there was Edge of Tomorrow, based on the light novel All You Need Is Kill. It was one of the best films last year.

Steins;Gate - Their take on time travel is just amazing.

Psycho-Pass - Sci-fi police drama? I'd love to see the dominator in action

Sword Art Online - The first arc would be nice and it could give us a take of what the nerve gear would look and feel like, also in virtual reality

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso - I don't know. It looks better when performed in the anime. Musicians might be all over this. It's a good love story too

And Assassination Classroom gets it's own live action..

None. For me, art and animation are an integral part of an anime. Which is also why I'm not too fond of live action adaptations of comic books.
