Tsubaki Episode!

Once again great episode. Seems like Kousei is back in the music game thanks to our #1 girl Kaori. Not sure if its only me but they looked like a a couple to me this episode. Tsubaki has been going through somethings this episode. First she catches Kaori in Kousei's house. Then she is basicly losing Kousei to her. And to top it off she lost the big softball game. Almost caught the feels on that last scene. Also wasn't expecting our Kousei to have rivals. Can't wait to see how this is going to play out.

5/5.

Corny/meh episode focused on Tsubaki melodrama.

Especially that scene with Tsubaki giving Kousei a piggyback ride when he was hurt & the same thing years later excepted reversed.

Ending was better though, two rivals wanting revenge appear.

This episode was so much better than last week's. Content-wise, only a little, but it looks like A-1 actually tried on the animation this ep.

Lol at Tsubaki's overreaction. Thought they might have played with her anger a little more, but having a reversed scene from their childhood worked too.

Ah, Kaji Yuki! This show got better. The only reason I managed to make it through three episodes of World Trigger were because of him (still dropped it later, but...).

This anime is actually a Jousei disguised as a Shounen

In reality it's actually the other way around :p

Being a manga reader, I knew that this episode was going to be my favorite. This was the episode that I wanted to see get animated the most, mainly because of the interaction between the male MC and the softball chick.

But sadly, as a manga reader, everything goes downhill from here. It gets boring and repetitive. In my opinion of course.

I'm not so sure about that. To me it just kind of changes focus, though it'll remain to be seen how people react to the anime's handling of it. Hard to say since everything about this anime and how it gets people to react just feels so superficial. Audience reaction could really go either way at this point.

I hated Kaori but now that she realizes the suffering Kousei was going through she got some big points from me.
Then Tsubaki..Lost some points for going out with that Senpai~ although she regained it back in the end.
I hope she realizes that she loves Kousei and not do reckless things like that again
>.<

Also Salty Tsubaki is Salty in the end.

Cool episode.

I really love the shonen feels in this episode, with Kousei's training, the competition, the opponents... It's promising for the future, and pretty exciting !

I also like a lot how we can see the weaknesses in Kousei's style of playing ("straight", which is more appropriate to Bach for exemple, than to a romantic piece), especially if he has to play a Chopin piece, which is one of the ultimate romantic composer.
I find Kaori's advices accurate... I mean, she even quoted Rubinstein, one of the best interpreter of Chopin's music.
In short, this part of the episode (a new start for Kousei, musically speaking) was good, imo.

On the other hand, I really don't like how the drama/love story is handled. At the moment, I think it's quite boring and over the top. To be honest, it reminds me way too much Nagi No Asukara, which I didn't really like.
I find this part of the episode so-so.

In this episode, Kousei was wondering if it was really important to have an image in mind while playing. If you thought about the same, then you can compare for yourself different performances of the piece Kousei will present in the competition:

Maurizio Pollini: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkdgFfKIWbA

Vladimir Horowitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wWmYbMkOjo

and here is a recent performance by Sheng Cai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W33-vBK5h6I

Image surely have some impact in the end!

Of course "image" have impact, especially if we talk about the Romantic period, the time for individuality par excellence !
Anyway, thanks for the youtube links, great choices (Horowitz's performance is sooooo gorgeous !). :)

Damn... he had a naked Kaori in his house for a moment there XD.

RIP Kousei...

Hahaha, so he can't back out now that his submission has already been sent XD.

IMAGE KOUSEI!!!

A hopeless little brother eh...

LOL, did Tsubaki get so depressed that she decided to suddenly go out with her senpai O.o

Watari got his moment of spotlight to shine XD.

Tsubaki cost them the game and the powerless kick that Kousei gave her was hilarious XD.

Tsubaki crying T.T

Damn, it seems Kousei has two rivals that want to wipe the floor with him during the competition so they can get back at him for their losses.

The flow of the drama is relaxing, supported with beautiful art like usual... here shigatsu, take this 4/5 from me.

edit: Wait, just remembered that I love cute things. And that piggyback scene is soooo cute.... :3 so here's another 0.2, being a 4.2/5 from me. Expecting more goodness!

Hell yeah. The two rivals I've been waiting for. Gonna love it.

HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

Ahhh, Kaori finally realizes how bad her actions were, but keeps pushing him ( too far ). Actually felt something for Tsubaki. Ship Tsubaki x Arima. That whole part about her feeling left out because of music is soooo on point. I mean Kaori just goes on about how music is love, music is life. She's forgetting that only her and Arima play instruments, come on. Kinda rude, tbh. Rivals!!! Would rather just throw away the love squre and focus on some BA competition with Arima only. Glad it is only piano, not violin and accompanist.

I really like Horowitz's performance more than the others I posted (doesn't have a strict dramatic approach, but its extremely pleasing to hear his attempt to not play it straightfowardly). I also like a lot Richter's, but unfortunately the audio quality doesn't do any justice.
Going offtopic: I find interesting that Sheng Cai, despite being very young and relatively new (still in his 20s), is quite humble himself, taking his time to answer people's commentaries and stuff. I think its pretty impressive to see people being this attentive.

Do you have any guess on how Kousei's "performance" will sound like? I didn't read the manga, but I'm kind of expecting it to be something extremely lively (durrr, this is a generic show after all!), in a sense that he will try to incorporate his own impressions of Kaori.

Decided to pick this up, not sorry at all. So far, the only weak point is, surprisingly, the comedy. Don't know, it somehow doesn't work out well.

Everything else is flawless. This episode was very good, mostly focused on Kousei's still failing attempts at getting back to the piano and the childhood friend. That jealousy, though, it even cost her the game. The piggyback end was really good, and Watari is just awesome.

4/5. I don't know who these guys at the end are, but since it looks like Kousei wreck'd them before, i'm hoping he does it again.

This series has officially become my AOTS. That's really fucking hard to be when you have Parasyte and Fate/Stay Night airing at the same time. I feel like the pacing in this anime is just so smooth. Tsubaki seeing Kousei and Kao-chan together in the room. That reaction. Still thinking what IMAGE he will visualize, though it's kinda obvious he started playing the piano for Kaori.

Melodramatic part between Kaori, Kousei, Tsubaki, that would later on involved Ryouta in it. Turning to be a love square.

Welp, already expected these scenes going to happen from what I've watched in the previous episodes. New rivals appearing.

With much said, I still loved the series bcz of the music with a package of romancexdrama. 5/5

Yeah, Horowitz's performance is my favorite too. It just sounds so clean ; the way he brings to light each voices and melodies is impressive.
And I agree, I love Richter's performance too, even if the sound is crappy indeed.

Hey, same here !
It's one of the first thing I saw and it made me smile. I think it's very cool. Honestly, I find that his interpretation can be improved (the quality of the recording doesn't help though) but it's still great and if he's still in his 20's, then he has all the time to evolve, it's promising.

I didn't read the manga neither, but quite frankly (and unfortunately), I'm also expecting a lively and very emotional interpretation. At the moment, Shigatsu is a pretty predictable show (even if I don't consider this as a flaw), so I wouldn't be that surprised if Kousei catch everyone off-guard with an interpretation a la Paderewski. Then the competition judges and Kousei's rivals will be like : "Oh-, masaka ! Is it Arima Kousei on the piano ?!", or something like that.

I really hope I'm wrong though, I would love to see in Kousei's style a combination of his "accurate" style with a bit of deep sensibility. A style without too much mannerism.
After all, it was one of the qualities of Rubinstein, because even if Chopin was a romantic, I think he was still "manly" in his own way.

Wow, already so many comments... I'm glad this show is getting so many comments, it'll certainly be one of my all-time favorites.

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned already, but compared to nodame cantabile the choice for music is so smart here, imo.

It's always really difficult to pick classical music pieces, because most people unfortunately find it boring, and cannot appreciate it. For people who listen to instrumental music, they'd rather listen to something like "kiss the rain" or something else by yiruma or yuki kajiura (both of which I do like) or something else.

Chopin's op.25 no.5 is SO fitting here. It's one of my all-time favorite etudes, but it's just so fitting here! It's nickname is "wrong note" etude, and it's supposed to sound like it's "wrong". How perfect for kousei, who can't hear his own music.
