I have to say I really liked this anime with it's twists the only thing that I slightly didn't like was Masayoshi proposing to Goto, to me it was unnecessary and I would have liked it more if it had ended as a "we are friends" type of deal

As for a second season I don't think would be a great idea, however some OVAs explaining Goto's girlfriend disappearance would be nice

This anime was so incredibly retarded it deserves all the scorn in the world.
However it gets a 10/10 simply for the fact that I will never go on a ride this wild ever again

First of all, what the hell kind of parents agree to fake their own child's death?! Those two idiots deserve to be boxed up and buried alive!

I'm thoroughly convinced that EVERYBODY in this episode was insane!

I thought I was about to get some "guy-on-guy-on-guy" action when Hazama dressed in his birthday suit and started making advances towards Sawada, and then proposing marriage to Goto.

Goto and Hazama as husband and husband would have been the perfect ending for me!

Oh, my poor Goto-san... ;(
This was so painful to watch him like that...

OMG! They ruined it!
I couldn't stop laughing!
Whole dramatic mood disappeared...
I can't take it seriously...
Masayoshi no ecchi!

I feel shaky...
On one site...
Goto-san talking "he deleted her last message for me"
and on other
naked Masayoshi... -.-

Wait? WHAT? o.O
Masayoshi. proposed to Goto-san?!

Oh, my... baka... xD

Goto-san still sends the message as his girlfriend?
What really happen with her?
I was so curious what happen with her.
I'm a little disappointed that they were without answer...

Series get from me 7/10
Because I liked first part,
and everything what happen after all Flamengers....
I wish they could keep this mood from first episodes,
because I almost dropped this show when Flamengers arc started...
but Sugita-san on this series.

At first 9/10 ended as 7/10,
but I think this still good score.

Well that was quite a wild ride...found myself crying in the first 5 minutes and laughing in the middle and content at the end.
Hard to find something where the plot twists are truly surprising, and while not everything was executed the most smoothly (well, was it intentionally that way?) I can still say that overall I'm happy to have stuck with this and would watch a season 2.
I thought "Samurai Flamenco Naked" meant emotionally naked, not actually physically naked as well haha
And in regards to some comments involving the relationships/"queerbaiting",

Ehhhh....
Crazy at its finest. I can agree with Kurowned (below) though.

Oh well. It kept its plot twists all throughout. But I do wish it would have expanded on some things. I really want to know what happened to Goto's girlfriend, but I feel like it's better left unsaid.

At the very least it wasn't GotoxMarie. I'm still surprised I stuck with this to the end. Rather, I'm surprised the director did what he did.

PEOPLE. LISTEN TO ME.

Before saying it was gay as hell or start shipping gotoxhazama, read this.

What should masayoshi do?
He had an enraged friend and a psychotic kid to deal with. How should he deal with what he doesn't understand. Love. What should he do? Being more crazy than them, of course.

What did Haiji expected?
Being part of Samurai Flamenco backstory, being killed by Goto and turning into a mental scar for Masayoshi.

What he got?
A naked Masayoshi trying to "love him" . "Man, this really isn't in my plans"

What did Goto expected?
Some speech about life, love, forgiviness. Masayoshi can't do that, he didn't had the same emotional burden to knew what goto was feeling. Remember, he didn't had a batman's past, he couldn't care about his parents because they died very early in his life.

What did he got?
A marriage proposal from a naked guy who had a gun pointed towards him. This is so ridiculous that you start see reason a bit.
Goto was able to see that killing the psycho kid would hurt masayoshi, even goto himself would be hurt by killing the guy. That won't bring his girlfriend back.

Why did Masayoshi do those stupid things?
He had to shown his feelings towards them. But in a way to really make them understand. Of course that Masayoshi loves Goto, as you love your best friend or brother. You care about them.

What i'm trying to say is: The scene itself isn't gay. Maybe Masayoshi will go out of the closet one day (maybe he really loves goto that way), but this scene isn't gay.

Okay, so no over the top epic events. A simple slice of life ending. For that it was pretty good.
The ending fizzled out a bit but still in typical Samflam style (Masayoshi's simple minded kindness and stupidity saves the day lol)

Was hoping he would go back to being SF, and for that I'm happy. I thought the ending scene was perfect. Still was hoping for a bit more.

All in all, I enjoyed watching Flamenco every week and trying to guess what insane thing it was going to do next.

That naked proposal was bromancetastic but really why was Masayoshi naked? And is Gotou still texting his missing girlfriend in the end?
Overall, I still don't really know what this show was but I got through 22 episodes of it and enjoyed most of it.
Masayoshi got naked to show the kid that he is not Flamenco right now, but himself. He then professed his love to Goto and proposed because it was the only thing he could think of to show his understanding of love. He doesn't really know what love is like and that's how he shows it because he's kinda an idiot.
Goto still texting his girlfriend, because anime tells you that not everything has a logical conclusion like in superhero fiction, sometimes shit just happens and people don't really change. It means that Hero can't win every day turn everyone's lives around. But at least he can offer them his friendship.

This show is brilliant, you just have to accept it and listen to what it has to tell you. It's not everyday we get a show that is so smart and mature as Samurai Flamenco.

I think the same. although I liked it better when everything was normal somehow continued to be until the end. I feel they could have done a little more but I guess I'll wait the OVAs. 8/10 really worthwhile see it, yet i just would see the first 7 episodes again.

And finally it ended with a man stripping grabbing a preteen boy claiming hes gonna fill him up with his love... and then proposes to his best friend... Jesus thank god this trainwreck ended 4/10

This is a good moment too, by the way. Whole this "baka baka" thing was a outburst of feelings that were inside of Masayoshi. And he, as we know not being very bright, couldn't deliver his message across better while being overwhelmed with his emotions being in a very stressful situation that was entirely alien to him.

The more I think about SF the more I like it. I also think that only kids and people who lack attention span would hate this show so much. It's not your typical magical slice-of-life piece of crap. You gotta turn on your brain, if you have one, and pay attention.

I've been defending this anime overall, but.. after seeing its conclusion, I really do have to sadly give it a 5.5/10.

There's so many plot elements unexplored or not fleshed out. I was honestly 'fine' with the series going into the bizarre post-Guillotine Gorilla. But it feels like the world had so many unusual qualities that had zero pay off.

Konno got zero development as a character despite the troll bait 3rd opening animation. The Flamengers aside from very basic backstory elements like "I have an elderly grandfather" or "I'm in love with Kaname" got no development. The Idol Group had zero development. The ending resolution for Goto was -terrible- and even a little sad.

They don't explain how Haiji manages to be at so many places at once, and Masayoshi seeing "illusions" of Haiji is dropped as a plot element. They don't explain how Haiji gets access to the materials to do half the shit he does. His parents should be in jail and are complete idiots, and them with blank expressions going "Duh, guess we'll turn ourselves in.." doesn't make up for it - their motivations are.. utterly incomprehensible if they even had any.

The world makes no sense at large with the fact the hero characters are canonically around. Like.. people roll with the fact you have giant robot pilots and axe beam belts -really really really bizarrely well-.

What Flamenco means was disappointing as a plot reveal.

I know it subverts some expectations, but never finding out anything about Masayoshi's parents or Goto's girlfriend is disappointing.

Overall: it had fun moments like the Iron Man style Prime Minister suit. But the series just ultimately became average to mediocre, not because it didn't keep in the theme of the first several episodes, but because it became hard to care about any of the characters and every toted plot reveal was more anticlimactic to downright pointless than the last.

Samurai Flamenco naked and a proposal??!! BEST ENDING EVER!
I couldn't expect less for the last episode of this anime. It was pretty random sometimes, but it caught my attention. It's hard to find an anime in these days that has an original and innovative plot.

This show was the greatest show for me besides Kill la Kill this season. As a fan of Super Sentai/Kamen Rider/Ultraman, this show had everything I wanted fro that standpoint. It was a great deconstruction of the tokusatsu genre as a whole.

FOR THE ENDING:
I' really happy that it ended up as GotoxMasayoshi. It makes total sense, and even though Goto is still texting his dead girlfriend, their relationship is still pretty explicitly stated although subtle when Masayoshi says "That's cold!" after Goto texts himself. The marriage proposal was great and it was completely serious (from Masayoshi), and the fact that Goto didn't outright reject the notion makes me further think that their relationship progressed to a more romantic layer within the one year time skip.
I love their relationship as a whole, and even though I wanted them to state it a bit more openly (I mean, Dia/Sapphire happened, why not these two?) the show is still a shonen instead of a seinen. Therefore, it's completely understandable why they didn't do it.
Now, for those who think that Goto and Masayoshi didn't get together because of the text, you have to remember, he was doing this ruse for about 8 years. I don't think that 1 year would be enough to break out of a semi-psychotic-depression so easily.

Sidenote: I love all you people calling out for Goto x Mari when there was obviously no chemistry there beyond Mari's insanity. Gotta love when people stop trying to take the obviously gay and try to direct it towards something else. Le sigh

All in all, I loved this show. The ending was the best thing that could have happened (and that entire scene with Masayoshi standing in front of the villain was pure gold, especially with the look of complete wtf on his face) and it fit perfectly.

Samurai Flamenco: 9/10 (would have been 8, but dat ending do)

I'll definitely agree that I liked the deconstruction elements, and saw nothing in Goto x Mari (it could've happened had the series done more with it, but it flatly didn't). Goto x Masayoshi was something I could've personally rolled with fine, though I don't think it's 100% for sure based off how that ending sequence went.

But, my problem is what Flamenco as a show on its own did with that deconstructed material. It went "Look! You're familiar with these tropes and memes of these genres! Did something unexpected with it!" and yet, did nothing particularly special of its own with that material. It focused too hard on subversion and not enough on making something memorable of its own.

If Flamenco had been more cliche but developed a strong core plot throughout the show, I'd honestly think it better for it.

1) Well, if words failed him, he could have always resulted in kissing the damn fool out of it. Acting on instinct, as we know, is his M.O, so it would have been fitting.

And yes, this is a serious suggestion.

2) The show had good moments here and there with it's metafiction and decon/recon bits, but overall, it's a mess. Good ideas, no matter how good, don't work if the execution is lacking.

Now stop provoking people.

I liked how Samurai Flamenco started with Goto finding Hazama naked in an alley and ended with naked Hazama trying to stop Goto from shooting Haiji. Life is a circle! The last scene was also very good. Hazama reminded me of Superman.
However, I didn't like that Goto was still receiving messages from his "girlfriend". I would prefer if he realised that she was dead and decided to move forward in his life and start a relationship with Mari. I also didn't like the explanation about Haiji's death:
-Hey mom, can we fake my death?
-Of course sweetie! <3

Well, Samurai Flamenco has been a controversial anime especially after episode 7, but I found it very enjoyable and one of its kind, so I'm happy that I chose to watch it. I will remember this anime for a long time

I'm trying to figure out at which point this show jumped the shark: there are so many options...

I was willing to give them the Guillotine Gorilla and King Torture arc. It was kind-of loopy when they made the shift, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and the ending with Mari and Triple-M did have a little bit of drama (and I actually developed some interest in what happened to her).

The Super-Sentai arc just made me say "Wat?" Unlike the Flamenco girls, we didn't get any more than a cartoon sketch for character. The only thing enjoyable was the rivalry between Pink and Mrs. Red Axe.

By the time we got to the Prime Minister and Alien Flamenco, I'd already started downgrading my rating...it was just too much, and resolved too quickly, and pretty much inconsequential to any characters.

I had hope for a brief moment when SF and Mari followed Goto home that we might get a little resolution (even romance) and pull something out of the mess, but noooo...... It ends with Goto and Mari stomping off, and we head into the Dark Hero plot.

And now this.... Well, I'll give them a 6 for the successful troll, but if they'd been a bit more serious about this and knew when to bring it back to some sort of reality (even an altered reality) it could have been much better.
Please don't feed the trolls!

Just wondering, do you (and others who are reading) think you would have reached the conclusion regarding the show revolving around different kinds of heroism if the giant extradimensional hypercube figure hadn't explained it directly after Alien Flamenco had been defeated? I got that they were trying to address different kinds of tropes and heroism/heroes/villains initially, but I didn't consider that it might be a result of Masayoshi's will being carried out by the universe (well, that's a pretty specific in-universe conclusion in the first place.) (And a trope in itself, perhaps)
(Sorry if it's unclear what I mean, I may have diverged from the topic a little.)

I'm trying to figure out at which point this show jumped the shark: there are so many options...
It never jumped the shark, you only think so because this anime doesn't cater to your expectations

I busted a gut watching this episode XD
This show was a roller coaster ride, constantly moving in weird directions, but it was definitely enjoyable. There need to be more shows like this!

3/10. Maybe even a 2/10. This show is just so bad. Power rangers, Gorillas chopping people off and to top it off we get some BL ending. My god, what a train wreck.

Too bad shows like this are doomed to be financial disasters. Modern audience just can't handle the awesomness, I guess... Even stuff like Hajime no Ippo doesn't sell... I guess no boobs or more blobs = no sells?

You should have paid attention, instead of eating boogers. I guess there wasn't enough cute girls or something for you.

This was simply glorious...

actually start was pretty good (whole part with what would happen if there were heroes in real life, good idea) but than it just went full retard. Gorillas, aliens and whatever they were trying to do with Prime Minister.

1/10 as it's one of those things that deserve this special score.

I can't think of any other show that made me want to finish it simply because it was so incredibly bad at getting anything right there was no telling how it might end. That's about the only positive thing I can give to the show, which for the rest was a combination of terrible plotting/pacing with no sense of direction with animation varying from average to awful.

The complete failure of this show however is best summarized in the fact it nearly managed to destroy all faith I had in Takahiro Omori. I literally had to stare at a list of his works for five minutes to remind myself that the man actually is one of the more talented anime directors. This show is a horrible stain on the man's résumé.
