Did Ari seriously think that Kal-el would be interested in her bossy, loud-mouthed, insult-hurling ass in a romantic way? She's the BAKA!!

That's example of what happens if you decide to cut 5 tomes of LN to just 13 episodes.

This episode was one big failure! Like @gamer2710 said it was just one big absurd.

Why they feel threatened by Sky Clan if they have Nina with her full power?

Why they feel threatened by them if they destroyed their fleet and joined in coalition with Lavame?

What for was this journey? Just to see Isla explode? Really? And all the pilots weren’t even surprised like they knew already what will happen. But if they knew… then why the hell did they shout “I will protect Isla” in nearly every important episode… just to die shortly after.

Why did Claire decided to go with Sky Clan if she wants to escape later? Won’t Sky Clan hunt them for breaking their agreement?

Why Claire didn’t take Kal with her?! She could take up to 20 people with her! Everything would be fine if Kal went with her, right? If they love each other that would be only reasonable. And instead of Kal went Igna who is attracted to Ari.

What are all of those citizens going to do now? Their home exploded and they have no way to return… in truth even if they are not aware of this: they were exiled with some of the nobility, Nina, Kal and the rest of the crew.

Why those republicans are so happy to join coalition with Kingdom? When few years ago they were manipulated by the demagogues to slaughter royalty?

Why Ari is now lovely dovely with Kal… when during previous episodes she was rather interested in Igna?

Why Kal still seems like a bum? He didn’t even decide to go to Claire as soon as possible. Plus even If they tell us how big improvements he made… we still didn’t see his great pilotage skills.

Sadly there won’t be second season. And most probably 13 episode will be disappointing. I’ve checked Japanese Wikipedia on Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta and sadly… ep 12-13 will most probably cover whole 5th tome of novel…

To Aru Hikushi e no Tsuioku was much better than this… even if the ending was sad it was justified! Here… it seems that nothing mattered after all…

A bit anti-climatic. Oh well.

Holy shit, they let Ignacio finish his sentence!

I don't see why they couldn't just have made Kal one of the guards. Or Clare using her authority for something like "My powers do not work unless the one I love most is near me" or some other BS like that. The Sky clan can't complain if it's something like that. Not very creative are they.

So it seems like a lot of people died for nothing. Isla was destroyed and apparently it floated by itself. For some reason I thought it was controlled, because how in the hell did they even think of building on a floating island that is just floating to somewhere random?

Anyways, I'm confused why Kal-el just didn't stay with Claire.

It was an alright series. I noticed it's also 13 episodes too.... lol

It wasn't really a good ending for Karl and Claire, but it wasn't a bad ending either. Guess it opens the door up for a season 2?

There's another episode yet, you know.

Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Just another case of MAL trolling... but yeah, my thoughts were correct. They have a lot of things to patch up, and hopefully the 13th episode does so.

THE FUCK just happened? The End of the Sky = an atomic incinerator? LOL Are they all going to live in the Levamme Empire now because they've been exiled by their own government back home. They are basically homeless now lmfao.

I have this anime at 5/10. It might go below a 5 depending on what happens in the last episode. I rarely give out anything lower than a 5 that I've completed but this anime pisses me off lol. I guess the pedal plane dance was pretty cool but Jesus this was a god awful episode.

Why Kal isn't even thinking about restoring monarchy with him as a rightfull ruler? He forgived Nina Viento and it's clear that they love each other. Nina is also governor and has great authority so Karl should talk with her about restoring monarchy. Crown Prince who isn't dreaming about restoring his rule isn't realistic. 12 episodes and he didn't mentioned it. Ridiculous. I thought that in 12 ep, he would started discussing it with his beloved Nina. Im dissapointed. This anime really has 13 episodes? When i read about story of this series for the first time I expected that "prince who lost everything becouse of revolution" will build some kind of monarchical conspiracy against republic. So far he is ok with it and it's really weird.

Toaru Hikuushi e no Tsuioku was a really great movie. Serious, beautiful and interesting. I was expecting something similar but unfortunetelly Im disappointed. Graphics are not so good, story - we don't even know what is this whole trip about and it's not intriguing and there is also many things that I hate in some of the new animes ( eating ramen whole episode, stupid reactions etc)

Nina Viento has no real power. She's a puppet. The reason they were on the floating island Isla was because they were trying to exile her along with some high level military men. They already said they were abandoned by their government. They were left to die.

So in hindsight, everyone is trapped within the end of the sky unable to escape, and if anyone does try to escape they will end up like that huge floating island that crashed into the end of the sky.

Benjamin did lose his hand. If you look closely, you can see that it is a fake hand that he now has (he isn't wearing a glove on it)

I think riding Isla to the end of the sky wasn't even in question for the people on board. They have grown up with belief in the teachings of St Aldista all their lives. Everything they believed in has come true in some way or another. If the prophesy says the island returns to the end of the sky, so be it. We have to remember that they know very little of the outside world and this was a 'Republic-sanctioned' golden ticket to exploration of the unknown.

So why did they island get "destroyed?" I'm totally lost at this moment, this anime never made a lot of sense.....

This whole goal/mission was to "Fly Isla into a rainbow and let it get destroyed". Must be a very interesting story to tell their children o.0

Let me get this straight, they planned for the island to be destroyed but never planned for a return trip? The other clan helped them by chance, meaning they can return home, so what was the plan from the beginning when they destroyed the island. Fly around in the sky until they run out of fuel, because I'm pretty sure those plane needs fuel.

EDIT: I always thought they were trying to discover a new place, somewhere they can expand...

I'm kind of confused why the island thing got destroyed... But I have to say the last scene (the "Thank you!!!" scene) was done very well. I'm unsure if this show will end with a 6 or 7 from me. If they can explain and make everything clear in the next episode, I may keep it at a 7.

Honestly, this show has great potential but the length and lack of explanation ruins it. Plus, the derpy animation oh god... I actually don't care about visuals that much but even I noticed the derp faces every where. Also, I wish Igna had more screen time in the earlier episodes and developed a bit more. I felt like there was a lot more that could have been covered.

what's the point of going to "the end of the sky"?

What's the point of going in the abyss of our earth or to go in space?
What's the point of even leaving your homeland? It's not like you wouldn't be able to live your life there.

I still do not understand why they simply went and destroyed Isla like that. I doubt even the richest nation would destroy one of it's asset like that on a whim.

The end of the world is still something unknown and Claire's power might be linked to that. It doesn't seems like a real end but rather a magic barrier so I wouldn't be surprised that if it gets a second season the plot will go deeper into this world's history as well as the origin of Claire's power.

For some reason a lot of anime this season seem to be suffering from their last arc being less intense than the previous one, and so far this is no exception.
Sure the animation is still incredible, but what I liked about Pilot's Love Song earlier in the series was that it was unpredictable and you couldn't really tell where they were going next; but now it feels more formulaic and predictable, and the magic seems to be disappearing.

They should have kissed, but I guess that will hold until the reunion. As for Ignatio, hearing him call Kal-El "big brother" was awesome! I wonder if Kal will ever know the truth, that he really is his older half-brother?

It appears that Igni is really a tsundere after all. He loves his big bro and will protect the chastity of his woman for him until Kal can return for her and sweep her away with the wind... (Well, she may do the part with the wind...)

I look forward to the last week of this.

what's the point of going to "the end of the sky"?

The same reason people climb Mount Everest? (Because it's there.) But really, it is to verify their legends and creation myths. Isla was going there anyway, it is possible that this event signifies something important for their culture or their world as a whole. Isla was basically created at the End of the Sky and destined to return to it. The people of their country chose to send an expedition on the floating island to find the end of the sky, record its existence, and learn more about their world.

And, the former crown prince needed to fall in love with the girl who calls the wind so they can create a new order among all people who share their cultural heritage. (My bet is that the Sky Clan and the other two all join together as one nation after this. I haven't seen the Princess and the Pilot, but I would be willing to bet that the Princess is a descendant of Kal and Claire...)

I don't think they actually planned to destroy Isla. They happened to come across an ally who can escort them back. Why not actually test the whole creation legend thing? Isla was the original stone that was supposed to go back to the end of sky anyway.

The bigger question is what lies beyond the rainbow. It has enough force to destroy a large island. This makes it seem like the story actually happens at another planet. Would be funny if they live at an enclosed area (like a ball) and not actually a planet. All while being observed by a higher being or an intelligent alien species. Makes you wonder if our universe also ends like that (despite the believe that our universe is infinite).

The 2nd season should deal with the combined forces of everyone on their world taking up arms against whatever being trap them inside the rainbow barrier XD

Then the LaPuta castle is destroy. So that's it? Time to go home? *sigh... I just hope the next episode enlighten me to understand why LaPuta castle was destroyed.

I guess Ari likes Kal. Well, they aren't really siblings of sorts, for Kal was adopted right?

Ignacio being a tsundere, calling Kal "baka aniki". No wonder. Her mother was a mistress of Kal's father right? Ignacio was born in a corner or something. Loved Ignacio this episode.

Can't wait for next episode. Ari is on an island with her hair untucked? Maybe time skip?

Well, I'm not sure they got to explain everything. Toward the end it seems like they're really crunched on time, but at least they're focusing on the important stuff. I mean, sure, I'm also a little puzzled about why they sent Isla to die (it appears that they knew Isla was going to be ripped to shreds), but I think the farewell between Claire and Karl is really the most important part right now. It also looks like this series will close very well on an optimistic note, just the way I like it too.

Oh, and Ignacio is just too cute of a little brother. I hope Ignacio, Claire, Karl, Ari, and co. will all get to be together in the end. But that should be quite clear from what we've seen so far anyway.

Oh, I thought there was 12 episodes, I found it so weird that it ended that way, now it explain a bit more.

Well, it was a nice episode overall. Bit cheesy on the edge.

My main question is : why? Why all this? Why did they throw that island into that big mass of energy/whatever? What was the purpose of that trip, to see a giant rainbow eating a big rock? No but seriously, it seemed just... bland? I expected to be some revelation, discovery or whatever, but now that the big island is gone, they have to make a fucking big trip back home.

Some of the lieutenant animation were fucking horrible, I couldn't help but laugh my ass off x)
When they were discussing before recieving that offer the the Sky clan, their faces were super hilarious.

The romance was good, even if cheesy as I said. Also, they made it so obvious that Ariel was in love with Kal xD
Ahh, the good ol' incest drama :P

Claire pretty much got sold like a whore. Better get her back Kal! Or I wouldn't mind that much a bad ending, I don't really care about the character. Though, it seem obvious to me that it will have an happy end, can't see a bad ending happening.

One more episode to go, eh? Not like it'll help, this has been ridiculous and will end ridiculous. I've kept watching this because I hoped the ending might make up for the boring lack of story this series presented for the first half of it's run. After episode 7 I thought it would get better, but behold how wrong I have been.

Religion dictates that we live on this island until it reaches the end of the sky, then we watch as our homes are destroyed for no reason whatsoever, and we are left with nowhere to go. Yay religion!

So far, if the last episode has even a remotely sincere ending, this series will be getting a 5 from me. But, if the ending is what I suspect, it'll be a 4.
Odds are I'm not going to find my way back to a thread after my first post, it happens on occasion but not often. So, if I say something that offends you and you feel the need to force your opinion on me because obviously everyone should have your opinion or none at all, feel free to post it in the thread that I'll probably never see again. I really liked this series for its sense of adventure and potential early on, but now it's starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Just some of my personal gripes at this point:

1. Ari being in love with Kal-el. Like seriously, can Japan do one sibling relationship without turning it into unnecessary romance? I know they're not related, but seriously dead horse here. It also just makes it look like they have a fetish for making the childhood friend lose as well.

2. The Sky Clan doesn't have a face. They remain shrouded in mystery as a group of one dimensional fanatics that worship a vertical aurora in the sky and will shoot on sight.

3. Lack of properly fleshing out the lore. It felt like they just made up the lore/story as they went, and this episode's short sighted explanations really proved that.

4. Purpose of coming to the End of the Sky. Sorry but after everything that occurred, they're going to need a better reason than some "for teh lolz" reason such as vague religion or exploration for exploration's sake.

I don't usually pick apart shows like this and try to see the good side of things, but this series is teeming with wasted potential. They probably could have put the early, slow paced episodes to better use in setting up some of these things.

My thoughts exactly. The pacing is all kinds of wrong, it would have needed twice as many episodes to properly convey the story. The way it is, everything feels rushed, be it the war, or the romance.

That was the only reason.
All of the countries in the show have a vague creation legend that talks about a stone that gets covered in water, and a piece of the stone breaks off and floats (Isla) and the legends say it eventually returns to the end of the sky.

So the whole point of the show was that the group on isla was being sent to fulfill this ancient story for the sake of the world (and mostly their own country). It's a shame because it's actually a really interesting base concept, and could have been fleshed out a lot more--Not sure if this was an issue of novel being adapted into 13 episode anime, or if the author just couldn't get anywhere after he'd developed a core concept.

This had the potential to be an interesting world on the level of Eureka/Xam'd, if they'd done more with the source of Claire's abilities, more with the religions, politics, and wars of the various countries, more with the places Isla travels through, and actually done something with the holy spring and end of the sky... but as it stands the series was just sort of... pointless. And I can't really see a single episode fixing that.

Yeah, we all know MAL messed up. They left out the last episode and had us all badmouthing the second last episode as a poor ending.

I think the End of the Sky was some sort of magnetic field that developed during the big bang or something, that wouldn't let anyone pass through. The reason why they had to sacrifice Isla to the End of the Sky was because it was some sort of trigger to break through the wall. Notice how after Isla disappeared the Ocean actually extended further out, instead of the waterfall edge? Perhaps all of those different countries and clans had been derived from the same origins, and the prophecies were all so that they could break whatever spell the End of the Sky was under.

I have to agree that there is a whole lot more to this world that has not been developed sufficiently to make this particular world captivating enough, and as you said one episode won't help much, but at least with the war over, we can expect a whole episode of explanations about how this world works. Its better than nothing, no?

Wonder how Kal will ever get back with Claire though. She's now some sort of Messiah to the Sky Clan, do you really think they'll let their Messiah go that easily? And even if he gets to live with her, convention would stated that the most holy person in a religion is hardly allowed to belong to any one person. Best they can do is run away and elope to the ends of the earth. XD

I don't get it.
Was there a reason I've forgotten that they didn't go west instead of east?
What is that light comprised of anyway? Light that somehow has the mass and energy to stop and destroy something even the size of Isla from getting a single molecule of it through?
And why did they ram the only landmass for thousands of miles into a mysterious perpetual wall of radiation(?) somehow emanating from the ocean?

If they had waited another 30 or 40 years they might have been able to launch a satellite over the wall to see what's going on on the other side.

And if that wall of light is coming out of the seabed like I think it is, and if it's encircled the world they live on, I daresay it should have split the planet in two ages ago.

But there's clearly sky visible on the other side of that wall of light, but for some reason it's impenetrable.
Now that they've lost their giant, magical floating island that they poured an enormous amount of resources into, they have a couple options.
Turn right around, go home and start working on a space program.
Or go up and down the wall of light and see if there's an opening or something.
I hope they harvested the crops before letting it be destroyed.

Oh well, at least it was pretty. And look, they have cherry blossom pedals! Weee!

So I guess Claire's death flag wasn't raised, it was her "disappear" flag.

I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Second last episode, let's insert "Ari likes Karl". Genius writer. Why does it even matter? -.-

Wasn't it obvious since the start that she liked him?

That kind of relationship could pass off as sibling love, and I actually see some potential in Ari and Ignacio, but..

1. Ari being in love with Kal-el. Like seriously, can Japan do one sibling relationship without turning it into unnecessary romance? I know they're not related, but seriously dead horse here. It also just makes it look like they have a fetish for making the childhood friend lose as well.

basically this ^, and more importantly, was that necessary, like.. at all? -.- Guess I'll find out after I watch the next episode.
