THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Time skip. Some flashbacks showing what happened. Seems like Chisaki stayed on the surface. Miuna and Sayu grew up, and Akari had a kid. The ending of this episode got kind of intense. That animation was beautiful. Looks like Hikari's back first. Woke up screaming Manaka and didn't recognize Miuna at first. It looks like he hasn't grown. Guess it's because of the sleep. Perfect for Miuna lol Good episode. Interesting seeing how everyone/everything on the surface changed. Some parts were pretty sad. OST this episode was really nice. New OP and ED are too. This half of the season is looking good so far. Can't wait to see what's going to happen with all that's changed. |

If I didn't hear wrongly, it's a 5 year timeskip? And I thought Hikari didn't sink with the rest. Tsumugu's grandfather in the hospital, Chisaki feeling survivor's guilt (she's in Nursing school), Akari having a child, Miuna and Sayu now in middle school, and is that Tsumugu's dad and Tsumugu's professor from a lab at college. And they found Hikari. Look's like he can't believe that he hibernated for 5 years. God so many things happening this episode. http://i.imgur.com/Rfb84IM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/d4jtpcml.jpg |

Okay the tone definitely changed. It seems like Manaka will be semi okay from the impression I got from the opening. Akari seems to be enjoying her family life. Hopefully this half be as great as the last was. |

So they're gonna go with the Hikari x Miuna, Sayu x Kaname and Chisaki x Tsumugu pairings now, I think. Manaka's still in the OP though, maybe she'll come back?! |

Maybe she'll be the last. Poor girl, she'll be left without a pairing. I seriously did not expect a timeskip. Now those 3 new pairings, does this mean that sea people are going to be extinct though? |

I agree that the tone has changed this season - the episode and the OP/ED felt quite melancholic, if visually stunning as usual. And all those pictures of Manaka in the ending... this series is going to be a tearjerker, isn't it? |

wow. So, time skip of five years. Chisaki is on the surface, with the others disappeared, presumably back under the sea, and cryogenically frozen. Tsumugu has gone off to study the sea and try to find out what happened on that day. Chisaki training to become a nurse, and living together with Tsumugu and grandfather, who has finally admitted to being from the sea himself. But grandfather is unwell. Akari has had a child to replace the now far more mature former brat-child Sayu. And of course Miuna has grown up too (I like the way she wears her hair). So many emotions running wild. People yearning for ones they cannot be with. Chisaki still yearning for Hikari perhaps, but really just yearning desperately, desperately, for them all to come back together again. Miuna also yearning for Hikari, despite getting a confession from a boy in her class. Hmm could this be the final pairing: Chisaki x Tsumugu (they've been living together for 5 years. Plus they're now biologically five years older than the others) Hikari x Miuna (marrying your adoptive niece?) Kaname x Sayu (she had a crush on him before, right?) Manaka x Fishes And then the second of those Tomoebi things, this time with the moon and above the surface of the now frozen sea. And Hikari appears, naked, and thinking of Manaka. He fails to recognise Miuna, who has just brought him back with mouth to mouth resuscitation. But why is he back, and what does it spell for all of them? Find out next episode. Probably. |

Oh gosh, the opening alone made me cry. I noticed a severe lack of Manaka in the opening shot of the theme, as well - she'll probably be the last one to wake up. Chisaki and Miuna have gotten so much prettier...and what's all this about Hikari x Miuna? Nonono, it's gotta be Hikari and Manaka. I don't care how badly Manaka tried to sink that ship, it's gotta happen. This is the 14th episode in a row to make me bawl like a little girl, and judging by the frozen sea and the tone of the themes, this season is going to give my eyes a workout... |

I am not used to have the pairings changed! We had some solid pairings before... Now... Everything changes~! Though, I find it kind of extremely convenient how he showed up there. Wasn't it supposed to be in the far far future? Then again, it was a "forced" hibernation... but a hibernation nonetheless. Then again, he did appear out of nowhere, I guess it wasn't supposed to happen like that if he had slept normally but hmmm, oh well~ Shall see. I hope it doesn't actually have too much romantic drama. I prefer to focus more on the actual story of the village and the Sea God than the game "Let's guess who gets to take Hikaru home" |

Definitely wow there. Expected a 2-3 years time skip...Didn't expect a 5 year TS. Seems like things have taken quite the turn. The atmosphere is all sad and depressing :( Loved the OP and ED. They show a lot about what will probably happen. And Manaka seems alive but probably won't appear til the end. Seems Chisaki hasn't changed much at all. Except she went from hot to HOTTER *A* That Lonely Housewife description fits her perfectly XD I totally thought she and Tsumugu were already a couple until we saw her flashbacks. Miuna is suffering quite a lot. It shows in the OP with her tightening her fist and from the end of the ep with Hikari shouting Manaka right away and not even recognizing Miuna. Felt bad for her there but u gotta give Hikari a break. He doesn't seem oriented at all right now. Well hopefully she'll go back to her cute self. It's sad seeing her like this :( I can't wait to see more of Hikari's reactions. In the OP he seems pretty sad but smiling so he seems to have accepted the situation? I'm waiting for Kaname to appear too. I'm really interested to see how he'll react when he finds out that Tsumugu and Chisaki have been living most of these years together and he'll have no chance with her anymore??? Well, awesome start to the second part. Can't wait. Liking this more than Shinsekai right now |

Im still routing for HikarixManaka, Miuna is really cute, but its her uncle! xD But HikaruxMiuna will work, would also love that pairing, but still think Manaka will be perfect for Hikari. seems like Kaname does not appear till later on. Man those feels are to much. |

omg for the first time in my 14 years of living I almost cried... the feels were too great. Looks like there's pretty much no hope for chisaki x hikari now (age difference), but coz she's actually spent a lot of time with tsumugu and he most like has feelings for her I'm open to tsumugu x chisaki. Above ANYTHING though, hikari better not end up with manaka... i actually hate her so much. After this i'm also open to hikari x miuna. |

FIVE YEARS!?? I was a bit scared as to how the show would pull of the transition, but this episode was great. Was a bit surprised at the fact that grandpa was a sea dude. I can understand why Tsumugu won't realise his own feelings (or if i got that wrong, 'express' his feelings) towards Chisaki, but Is Chisaki still hung up over Hikari? I think she'd be more hung up over what happened to Kaname, and I think she blames herself for it. Miuna being a possible pairing is now totally realistic!! I don't see it ending well for her if Manaka comes back, but I'm gunning for her in this cour. Though I feel a tad bit sorry for the dude whom asked her out. BUT TAKE THAT ALL TO THE SIDE, WHERE'S KANAME!?? He's in the OP, but he doesn't seem to be shown in the next preview :'( And with that in mind, I wonder if EVERYONE whom hibernated will wake up. The OP sounded great and looked amazing. The OST was as great as always, still trying to decipher the ED as the last one showcased the ending of ep 13 |

I cried a little... poor Miuna. Even if she doesn't end up with Hikari I just hope for her to be happy in the end and Hikari x Manaka no,just no. I don't even miss her. Damn,Chisaki is one hell of a beauty. I ship her and Tsumugu really bad. I wonder how Kaname will react to the grown Chisaki... Hopefully Sayu will make him happy,he suffered too much. |

It totally feels like a different series. I'm glad Hikari is finally back but what about Manaka? Did she die? I hope not as I've wanted her and Hikari together from the start. I didn't mind Miuna with Hikari but after seeing this episode, I suddenly don't want that to happen. I guess it's because that I think it could happen especially that Manaka isn't there anymore. Also, Miuna might make Hikari fall for her by being there for him and such. I really hope Manaka comes back and gets together with Hikari. I've a feeling that both Tsumugu and Chisaki like each other. Tsumugu thinks Chisaki still has feelings for Hikari while Chisaki is tormented by the feelings of guilt and sadness which makes it difficult for her to think about such things for now. I don't know how it's going to be when Kaname comes back but I still think Chisaki likes Tsumugu. I'm not sure who the final pairings will be but I hope Hikari/Manaka is still possible. |

Nobodys even thinking the actual possibility of HikarixChisaki, its possible ya know. Chisaki still loves Hikari as it seems, she's also experiencing guilt on Kaname. Also Chisaki will finally get to see Hikari next episode, though seems like Hikari gets angry at Tsumugu and her because they are living together, since Hikari grabs a hold of Tsumugu in the PV. |

Beautiful episode, loving the new OP, very tranquil and somewhat emotion-full. So, a time skip occurred, everyone is older and are going their own ways. Hikari is suddenly above the sea, wakes up and first thing he does Is shout Manaka's name just like that incident 5 years ago just happened yesterday. |

Wow, the opening song went with melodramatic compared to first season joyfulness, it really impacts the overall tone of the series. Though on the ending song, I have to say I missed the Hii~ Hii~ Hii~ already, it had such a dynamism while syncing with the show's end. The time-skip and what-happened-in-between was very well paced, took me awhile to recognize a few of the side characters earlier on, I was like who's that van driver again. Akira the anagram of the name Akari, easiest job for the mother I guess finding a name for her son. The ending was predictable, though I had a more dramatic imagination where Hikari appears when the dude will finally muster the courage to confess and interrupt him, still close enough. Hikari went all Terminator, and as serious as the ending was, I couldn't help but chuckle a little inside when he stood up with tears in his eyes. Only thing in my mind was, did he pull the shirt together oooor did it drop, in which, did Miuna see his "thing".....well never mind. I actually feared what happened to the unlucky dude who tried to confess to Miuna would occur later on in the series, where when the couples are finally made or move on, these "hibernated ones" pop up causing all chaos and confusion. Oh, and way to steal Hikari's first kiss, second kiss, you go girl. PS: When they said Hikari was Miuna's uncle and she was in love with him. The next thing that came into my mind was the anime Honey and Clover |

The ED still cannot beat Aqua Terrarium. Anyways I like how the character design change and how that now Miuna and Sayu added to the group shot in the OP. From the looks of it, it seems like it was Manaka who caught that red umbrella at the end of the OP (they were all wearing long sleeves except the arm that caught it). She will be back. And I hope soon. I did not expect five years, I only expected two, oh well. At least I can hope that Kaname will have more screen time in this second half. More character development for him please. |

Was expecting a mid-series time skip since first episode D: Man this is awesome so far and looks like it will get awesome-er further. Guess Kaname x Chisaki and Chsaki x Hikari sunk already. Hikari x Miuna it is but always Hikari x Manaka first. Don't think we'll be seeing much of Manaka for the rest of the season, if at all. |

So far, this has been one of the best episodes in this anime. THERE IS SO MUCH TO LOVE ABOUT IT! X3 1. Perfect build of pace. The episode started with a very slow speed, perfect for one which needs to recap sadness and tragedy over the years. The tension gradually built up to the point of the confession where Miuna reveals to the viewers her pure emotion concerning her feelings even without the use of words and then exploded with the event of the resurfacing of Hikari, which was a perfect piece of animation. 2. The actual development of the characters is shown to the viewer. We don't just get an "Oh, well, ya see, they all got bigger and more mature". No, we see all of the characters moving on in greater detail. Akari's part is the one, which probably touched me the most. Her heart was one of the two I consider the most broken (hers and Chisaki's). She lost her family and home, just like Chisaki, however, she was an adult and couldn't take advantage of the instant break-down a child is allowed. As a grown-up, she had to pull herself together on the spot. In the scene when she is shown to have regained consciousness, her soul is obviously going to be just as troubled and in just as much pain as Chisaki's, but rather than cry or stay silent, she takes responsibility and offers the girl a place to stay. Talk about being truly mature. But if they had left it just at that, it wouldn't have meant much for her development, HOWEVER, when she reacts to finding out she's pregnant, we see all that pain she kept inside just come out. Her insecurity, unease and sorrow come down on her. Most mothers would have an abortion and Akari obviously had that intention, yet Miuna came to the rescue at that one moment and reassured Akari to have the child and with that, to also live on. And really, think of all the problems she'd have with raising the child. Despite having a husband and a helping hand from her daughter, a mother is expected to always be happy, smiling, helpful and caring, which I do not doubt was hard to do when you lost your homeland, brother, father and friends from the sea. I get why people still dislike Chisaki, but I think they should lay off for awhile. Alright, yes, it bothers me when we have a character who seems to get all of the characters from the opposite gender as if it was a harem. She was in love with Hikari, but Kaname loved her and she had good interactions with Tsumugu, not to mention other boys from her class liked and harassed her. Yes, she is that type of character. However, unlike some characters of that kind, she isn't mindless or stupid. She went through so much pain at that early age, 14. The time between 11 and 18/20 is pretty unstable for everyone, with puberty and all that emotional and hormonal surge going on. This being said, losing your family, your friends and your home, in other words EVERYTHING, at that age or at any age really, would be an utter disaster for any person. So, haters, you can hate, but don't be too cruel, because the girl seriously had it hard from the beginning. I like her and Tsumugu's relationship =3 This is the kind of relationship we all know exists, but is rarely displayed in an anime, unless it's the main focus of the story and always quickly turns into true pure-heart love or something our of comedy. This is the "forcefully accepted relationship", but it's a specific case. I actually haven't seen an anime with this kind of relationship. Most times it's some emperor/king/lord/w/e getting a bride/wife/lover by force or duty and they quickly find out they love each other. When it comes to Tsumugu and Chisaki, the both of them never wanted to live together before the accident, they were just friends with no love interest whatsoever and they didn't have that much in common in the first place, however, the CIRCUMSTANCES lead to them living together under the same roof, where they mutually accepted everything. They were forced by the situation to come together and, rather than deny this, they simply accepted it and decided to live on. This reminds me of an arranged marriage, where the two people didn't know each other beforehand, they don't have pure love burning, but they accept to live and be together, which eventually lead them to finding some good traits about the other and find a reason why they should love them. I actually see Tsumugu as the responsible husband, who doesn't say much, is reserved, calm, steady and knowledgeable and will do all he can to maintain harmony in his home. His feelings for Chisaki I see develop in the before-mentioned manner. He didn't have any feelings for her at first, just being friendly. Then he felt guilt and sadness after the incident and when seeing how broken she was. Afterwards he discovers feeling happy when seeing her smile and get herself back on her feet. When the accident with his grandfather happens, he starts feeling responsible, like, he's the one who has to take care of the family now. Oh, and he also realizes what it means to have a family. Finally, he's warmed up to Chisaki, probably seeing her as a love-interest, but he discarded the option of confessing anything he felt or even touching the topic, because he knows she loves another. Again, responsible husband behavior. He knows she loves Hikari, but doesn't try persuading her to forget, because he understands her pain. Talking with her briefly and asking if she'd go to the Tomoehiki (?) shows his concern and care for her, but he doesn't try to bother her when she says she wouldn't go, because he knows it's best to give her time to get over it. I really think that this couple should stay and work out. It would show the audience that even if you date/marry someone you barely know or have little interest in, it's possible for it to work out. Two lonely hearts are best together, because they can keep each other warm =3 Concerning Miuna, well, the episode said it all, since she was more or less the main focus of it. Helping your mother and impossible feelings. All parts of growing up. She's gotten mature, I admit. I'll be interested in seeing how she realizes how much she herself has changed. It's a big leap between those two ages, most memories are vague and it would be wonderful if they show her inner turmoil with remembering and dealing with the fact that she is a different person. 3. Soundtrack, OP, Ending Theme AMAZING. The Opening and Ending themes were just perfect for the melancholia that is going to be overwhelming this coming season. I really liked the paper airplane bit. Leading bright blue- Hikari Purple at the back- Tsumugu Light Green(?) at the farthest back -Kaname Pink- Chisaki Yellow - Miuna Orange (?) next to yellow - Sau Pure white, but was in the shot before the main 6 - Manaka I love those little details of symbolism <3 |

Meldoy said: So they're gonna go with the Hikari x Miuna, Sayu x Kaname and Chisaki x Tsumugu pairings now, I think. I think so, too. I was trying so hard not to skip the whole OP first to get on with the show. Finally, Hikari, I'd be so sad if I couldn't see him in the ep... Now next, the appearance of kaname... |

Called the timeskip and the new pairings in the last thread! I like where this is heading. |

He knows she loves Hikari That's just what he thinks. If you take it as fact you're jumping the gun. Personally, I don't think she's hung up on Hikari at all. Tsumugu's just misunderstanding things imo. Of course, next episode we'll get confirmation one way or another. |

This was a... I don't really know what to say. It was a fantastic episode. Beautiful. Melancholic. So very good. Looking forward to seeing what the second half has in store for us. |
I have my own anime blog. It's called Anime Viking. Hope you'll you read it! |

If this turns into Miuna x Hikari and leaving Manaka dead, Ima flip a table. The first half did nothing to get me liking Miuna enough for her to be a replacement love interest. Will probably decide to drop or keep going with the series by the end of next episode. |

Most animes can't pull off a time skip, but I must say this did pretty well. Really liked this episode. So many emotions and feelings. I thought I was going to feel lost, but I wasn't at all. The flashbacks really help a lot towards the story. That op was just beautiful. Had to play it a couple of more times. Also love how everyone grew up, but kept they're personalities. The way this episode ended exactly the way I wanted too. Not going to lie this episode had me tearing up. I can't wait for the next episode. |
