THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST.

Soooo That’s how it ends… Hm well Its great that everything ended in peace, and I like how every character had a strong story for each..I would recommend this for more patient people that like elongated suspense..I have nothing else I can think about other than how nice this was sometimes so until next time!

Behold of my awesomeness~

Such a satisfying read. It's not as deep as Monster or quite as refined but it's still a hell of a story and one of my favorite manga. Re-reading the whole story again has been a really trip I have to say. It's really awesome how Urasawa takes all the sci-fi and manga hero tropes then twists them into a more realistic form. It makes for a really unpredictable read.

Anyway, 20th Century Boys is an easy 9 out of 10 for me and 21st Century Boys is an 8 out of 10 because it still doesn't quite answer all the questions that are left over. Although in a story so big and spanning so much time it would be almost impossible for the there to be no left over questions.

Well the only thing left to say is Gutlala Sudalala!

So Katsumata was the Friend, I hoped it was someone more important. Still, it was amazing, this was certainly one of the best mangas I've ever read. It will be hard to find something to replace it.

So I guess this is the end then ... Well first wanna talk about the last chapter, I am assuming that him and Yukiji never got together then? That is somewhat sad (like romance) but oh well ... And I guess the main evil was something that could have been prevented perhaps ...

Anyways as for this little continuation, I think it was much needed after the end of 20th century boys (mainly it shows who the new friend was) but also for a few other reasons ... However I think there were still some flaws with the series that prevent me from giving it a 9 or 10. Mainly among them include things like what exactly Kanna's powers were as I feel they were just put in there and poorly explained, as well as things like what happened to the rest of friend's original party, why was the second friend brought in only later and felt he had to pretend to be Fukubei, etc. ... I dunno, just a few things here and there but overall a great series.

well this was def a more satisfying conclusion than 20th century boys. even if we don't really get any info on the other friend, i'm assuming he's just some random boy in the school with no friends who wants to be like fukube.

also i definitely think kenji ends up with yukiji. does urasawa really need to spell it out explicitly? come on.

I like how the author revealed Katsumata to be "Friend" and then ended the manga right there. It's like he's saying "I told you everything, the fuck should I write more?".

I count 20th and 21st Century Boys as a whole (like it should be imho).
I will really miss it, I swear I "marathoned" it in less than five days, this hooked me up so bad that now I feel a little kind of empty. Just like Monster.

What? I think it's pretty clear that they end together, didn't you notice both of them blushing in the chapter 15? Kenji just said that after his tour, he will confess properly to Yukiji.

And so it ends for real. What a ride. The first 150 chapters or so are amongst the best stuff ever in a manga. Towards the end it lost a bit of steam in my estimation but it was still a heck of a ride.

In some ways it reminded me of Old Boy: how a seemingly childish misunderstanding or slight can have colossal consequences for the future.

A grand end to an epic manga. It's a bit of a shame it went a bit wayward after 140 chapters or so. But still a very good read.
An 8/10 for 20th CB.
A 7/10 for 21st CB.

Well this stupid. Having another friend was unnecessary and just dragged everything and extend the story enough for Kenji to be involved, and it was quite the asspull. I felt like it ruined Friend's character a little bit, it literally came out of nowhere.

Oh well. 6.5-7/10. Would have been 8/10 if Kenji and Yukiji had a better scene or more screen time.

It KIND OF pulled a Death Note after original Friend died. :/ Obviously, Death Note isn't as good as this series, but it kind of reminded me of how Death Note

Yeah, but good series. 7/10 for this, and a definite 8 for the original series. I just feel like there's still so many questions unanswered and it was so rushed in these last few volumes.

I feel like I would have liked this entire series more as an anime rather than manga. Kenji should be voiced by Hirata Hiroaki no doubt!!! :) Miyata Kouki for Yoshitsune. Miyano Mamoru for Fukube (obviouslyyy). Fumiko Orikasa for Yukiji. Haruka Tomatsu for Kanna.

Great ride. I don't see the point of separating the two, so both 20th and 21st will be receiving the same score as it is all one story.
Now I have to go and search out all the stuff they were saying about Katsumata.

I reread the entire series and liked the ending more than before. Because I noticed something critical to this manga.
I always wondered why the manga had this name. The name "20th Century Boys" appears in several chapters. But most important appearance is in the first chapter where Kenji says "We thought something would change, but nothing changed." when referring to him playing the T-Rex song in lunchtime. Well he was wrong. Something had changed. Katsumata decided not to suicide after hearing the song. Kenji saved a friend's life. That touched my heart.

finally finished this series

I valued 20th and 21st as one series.

Some people doesn't like when the antagonist coming from the dead, but in this one I really really like when Urasawa choose Katsumata as the main culprit.

It adds more value to the manga, the reason why he did such as thing make more reasonable impact than Fukubei motive. The feeling as completely unnoticeable person, as a trash whose his name has ruined since childhood. That was different from Sadakiyo case, at least he has the teacher who he can sent the letter.

I can accept the reason why Kiriko stay away from his daughter going to Africa, she still feeling guilty about bloody new years eve; leaving Kanna since child; and it is her nature, remember when she said she want more become like Yukiji, more womanly.

The only complain maybe when Kanna suddenly use her power more often in the last few chapters than in the entire rest of series. It feels like cheating.

And whose the body they found in Sadakiyo car when it's burned?

This was a good series, but I can't be rushed to finished it because it feels boring/exhausted after too much puzzle streak in 3-4 chapters without a single clue were given.

The ending was good, how is the petty thing can change your life or the others, forever.

Glad I read it.

I have a really serious doubt. I am from Spain, and I read the whole series in an edition published by a publisher called Planeta Comics. This chapter is slightly different from other versions of it I found online. In the version I read after Kenji asked the masked kid if he was Katsumata, he apologisies to him and explained that he was the kid all people thought had died before a science experiment, and also says that Fukubee was actually the one who died.

Can Simeone please confirm me if this was a revision Urasawa did some time after publishing the manga originally or wtf, cos Fukubbe clearly died after Yamane shot him, so things dont add up.

Well that's it I guess ? That was a good read, intriguing and endearing manga, not the best manga ever by any mean. But great manga for sure.

21st helped the manga having a good ending even though it feels kinda rushed.
So it was Katsumata huh ? We're just gonna have that news and the manga's over hahahah ? I'm glad Kenji saved his life tho

This manga is 8/10.

You clearly ignored the first chapter where teen Kanna saw a giant robot after waking up, which is exactly the same scene which we saw in the last few chapters of 20th CB. If you think it was an asspull then you havent digged deep enough

Thank god that I read this before judging 20th CB ending, the ending is much clearer, more memorable, and solved the biggest mystery: "who is the 2nd Friend?". I think Naoki could do it better but for 2 volumes, I'm satisfied, thank you Urasawa and goodbye all of 20th CB

Given how convoluted the whole thriller intrigue became, those final chapters presented as an appendix were unnecessarily long and yet quite uneventful. It was still fun to get some more pages with the characters.

Lol it was "answered" since the start, it was Kenji.
The last chapter just wrap that strange start briliantly, that action of Kenji did have impact to the world.

It was other random classmate. That is very likely that Katsumata changed his face to be like Fukubei since long time ago before the story started. There were 2 Friend since the start.

Yes, Kataumata's face is never shown in the manga. The only time we are hinted at his existence in "20th century boys" is when young Kiriko was talking to Sadakiyo and wondered who the other kid with the mask is.

The mother and daughter reunion was so lacklustre. This is one of my biggest gripes. I wish they embraced or did something more heartfelt. Kiriko is quite frankly a bad mother, I understand her not being present for most of the story as she was constructing the vaccine, but to leave after 'Friend' was seemly defeated without meeting her own daughter and brother, that's just horrible.

Seeing Kenji and Katsumata sing together was heartwarming. Plus Katsumata finally took off his mask! I'm sure that only happened in the virtual world. In the real world Katsumata never spoke to Kenji after he canceled his suicide attempt. That's why they never became friends in the real world. He's just like Kenji. Both of them regret not being able to say the things they wanted to say.
