Went into this with fairly low expectations, was positively surprised.
Guess I've found my slice of life show for the season!

Ren is so cute. She reminds me of the little Tsumiki in Acchi Kocchi.
She's my favourite too. But rather than Tsumiki, she somehow reminds me a little of Shizuru from Rewrite.

Episode 1 is based on Chapters 1 and 2 in the manga.

I first read the manga. Then I watched the anime a few times. Then I went back
and read the manga a few times. I have repeated this multiple times now.

It is quite noticeable that a great deal has been added to the anime that is absent
in the manga. This includes a lot of things which I found to be very:

- laugh-out-loud funny moments
- memorable events
- memorable lines
- visually appealing scenes
- good story telling choices
- better character design
- apparently central events in Episode 1 of the anime
- nice re-ordering of the events in the story

To be sure, I read ahead multiple chapters in the manga just to be sure that
some events in Episode 1 are not taken from later chapters of the manga.

Here are differences that I spotted in the anime, compared to what is in the manga:

Not sure that this is your intent, but that was the most understated but effective negative criticism of a manga that I have read in a very long while.

I don't want to bum the mostly positive vibe this show has, so I will leave it at that.

Hi Takuan_soho. Thanks for your reaction. I see exactly what you mean. I have
updated my earlier post to include a specific point-by-point list of the differences
between the anime and the manga.

Honestly, I did not intend to criticize the manga. The manga is good. The anime
is good. The adaptation of the manga into the anime is good. The point that I
am making is that a lot of careful thought and original creativity went into the
adaptation. The manga has lots of great stuff. The anime has lots of additional
great stuff that was not in the manga.

The school setup is like Higurashi minus Maebara Keichi. The story telling and gags are like Nichijou. And environment is peaceful and quiet like Tamayura.

We have a season contender here. Great first episode!

I haven't HNNG'd this hard since chu2koi.
Beautiful chara design, dangerously moe characters and hilarious skits.
I loved how Renge forgets to put the flute away when she talks.
Also, にゃんぱすー (nyanpasu~).

HNNNNNGGGG / 10

By the way, why is this listed as seinen?

Because it's an adaptation of a seinen manga. Why else would it be?

This anime will be my comfort zone for this season.
Whenever I need to relax, I could just watch Non Non Biyori.

I love the details they worked on the settings.
Reminds me a bit of my childhood days when I live at the edge of the small town, just few kilometers away and its all wilderness. No convenience store, cows and sheep roaming around from neighboring village. Nostalgic.

Not that original, but I liked the cute SoL and slow paced at the countryside
sadly no boys involved in the cast

The Meowning little girl resembles Chiaki from Minimi-ke

I wouldn't care too much about reviews anyway. You have to see something in order to be able to actually build your own opinion about it. There were some shows on MAL with pretty low ratings which I enjoyed quite a lot (Such as Hidan no Aria, Hoshizora e Kakeru Hashi or Yumekui Merry (All ~ 7,15)) and there were a lot which I didn't like at all with a much higher score (Shingeki no Kyojin, Lucky Star, Sora no Otoshimono).
Basically this. I usually go only with the cover picture + discription. Sometimes the picspam on sancom for certain series brings them to me. Or the good old recommendation from people who I know share my interests.
My concern is that there are lot of anime watchers who are not discerning and open-minded watchers like both of you. Those people go to ANN in the belief that it is an "authoritative" site for anime and is a "place to go to" for information, advice and suggestion, and they read those biased reviews written by "critics"/"experts" who probably don't get what the anime is really about or aims at. Those people are vulnerable to being influenced and see things in the same biased and misconstrued ways. If those reviews are form some random blog sites, I won't get so upset, but it is ANN we are talking about, a site that many western fans view as informative, authoritative and prestigious.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

I always looove relaxing shows and this is definitely one of those. Might I say, beautiful art! It is reminding me of Kiniro Mosaic somehow.

Lol, 5 students all in different classes, definitely unique. It sure is very slow-paced. That Gu scene xD It was so relaxing that my head started to hurt somehow xD Seems like it will pick its pace, I have a good feeling about this show. 8/10

Didn't expect much of the show after reading the synopsis. Actually even decided not to watch it, 'cause it sounded like another lame story about several girls chatting about some nonsense things. But then i just got bored and watched it on a whim. Whoa, so heartwarming and peaceful! Really enjoyed it, the humour, the art, the sound. I'm glad i was wrong about it.

A slow-paced, very relaxing show...just what I needed after this horrible time period called today. I like the girls, they are cute and fun, though I didn't enjoy the performance of Ren-chon's VA too much. 5/5.

Also, could someone tell the singer of nano.ripe already that she can't sing to save her own life? The build-up instrument bit was very promising...and then someone castrated a cat. She needs to stop ruining OPs.

Weirdest thing is, THERES A BOY IN THE CLASS, who is completely ignored and segregated. No one mentions him, no one hangs out with him, we don't see his face. He falls through the floor in a joke. Just something weird about that. He is the only boy in the whole town.

Something will come of it. He has the perfect chance to have a harem.

Pretty unlikely. The two oldest girls are his younger sisters. The next-oldest girl is a fifth-grader, while he's in ninth-grade, and the last one is a first-grader. I doubt his sisters are interested, and even if he wanted a harem of the other two, it's a pair that would get him decried as a lolicon.

Great slice of life, the Silver Link did not give me an excuse to criticize it! XD
The plot as I expected, he speaks of the newspaper and I like that in a sense. Narration very slow, it seems to live every moment to the protagonists together. I like the antics and even the teacher! LOL
Drawing really cute and well done this time. Animations promoted. Scenarios convincing CG and non-invasive! * _ *
Top marks! : D
