As much as it seemed rush in the past few chapters, the ending doesnt seem all that bad. Liked how it connect with the 'Woodpecker' theme.

This message kinda feels a little bit dumb. I just can't see how this reflects on our real life or the real world.

Please help me understand!

I interpreted it as, when you encounter something in life that doesn't make sense, don't fear it. Instead, accept it as reality with a brave heart.

I agree as well. I was a little late on posting my response though, so I hope you don't mind if I put my two cents in...
I interpreted as, "When faced with what seems to be the impossible, it's okay to be afraid. What matters most is overcoming that fear by facing it headstrong."
Basically, even though our struggles can bring fear and self-doubt, we have to push through to achieve what we want & what we believe is right ("rational"). We cannot turn a blind eye to fear, for our trials cannot be truly overcome without accepting it first.
Hope this helps a little more.

It sounds like 'deleting' fear. If I'm right, I think it's more like knowing your fears and acts depends on your fears. So, you don't have swim if you hate water. You can just take bout or you can go by foot.

As for ending... it feels rushed as someone said. I don't think everything was explained about Shiro, branch of sins etc.
Waiting this time for simple "we are alive" was... not so good.
Manga, with mini stories, was very good, but, as I said before, main story wasn't explained that good.
So 7/10.

Great ending and Beautiful last page.
I would of liked at least a glimpse of Ganta hugging Shiro when she woke up at least or laughing together, but oh well.

I agree with the part about knowing your fears and acting, but not acting against the fear itself and taking what sounds like the easier way(s) out is counter-productive. You can't know your fears and then simply run away. That's what a large part of the manga was about, fighting for what you believe in no matter how strong your opponents are or how hard the difficulties may seem. For example,

Was the mention of Sleeping Beauty just a tease cuz I really wanted him to kiss her there.

Good ending to a great series. I'll probably give it an 8 if I ever get around to leaving a score.

EDIT: Talked to a friend, and he hypotesized an off-panel kiss during when the birds flew off. Damnit, I believe it too.

I don't mean 'run away' & it's not counter productive:
When you cannot swim you don't jump to river and wait for miracle.
Ganta & his fight with Crow - he didn't just blindly shoot his blood at Crow but shot cage.
He took 'easier way', but he won that fight.
ps. it's not exactly win-win situation... remember: 'rain'? ._.

Would've preferred them both dying, or both happily together (no coma). Either way not a great end, but certainly better than other manga endings this year.

All in all besides the large lapse in wait (pregnancy I think it was), I enjoyed its gore, action, and overbearing drama lol.

I would have preferred and ending where they're both alive but Shiro's stuck in a coma forever or a very long time and the deadman all frequently visit her along with Ganta.

And yes, I'm Michelle Obama.

It's only 62 magazine wise. It's 57 volume-wise.

They put it as 58 because of 6 side-stories in Volume 12 that they decided to include as 1 chapter.

Ok, I understand what you mean. All I meant was out of all the options you could take in a situation where you're confronting a fear, picking the most effective one is important. Ganta chose the most effective, not the easiest which would be giving up, in his fight with Crow as there wasn't very much he could do at his level at the time. And by win-win, even though there were inevitable losses, I meant they all were able to surmount their fears instead of giving into them.

We're both right in some perspective so let's leave it there :) didn't mean to cause a stir. Thanks for sharing your view though, great debate & input about a great manga & quote.

Wow a happy ending :) Glad everyone's living a normal life now. The manga tied up everything nicely, especially the theme, in this last chapter. I'll rate it something for now, but I'll have to go back and re-read the whole thing to rate it properly since I felt somewhat detached from the manga after that hiatus.

Great end for me.

Since chapter 1 the theme for the 2 main character's was clear after it repeated again in chapter 56. Which was" I really want to live", and the wish of" I want to die" that both Shiro and Ganta wished for at once point was a lie. And so both living was expected of me.

I also really liked how they gave great deserving closers to all the supporting main characters. I like where each ended up. I liked that no one was left wonder what I am to do now in this would where power is not more needed to live.

Anyway I enjoyed the series completely. It lived up to all the Genre labels it had. I look forward to buying First and Last volume in the near future. and eventually all when I can afford it.

Ending kinda felt disappointing. The chapter before the end was great, the ending itself just left my wanting. I mean, I guess it's cool that everyone got out and did their own shit, but...as far as Shiro and Ganta go...something wasn't right.

Still, I loved the series. The hiatus hurt, ending wasn't great but it's not like it was awful. 9/10 overall :)

This manga has always been on backlog after getting a taste of the series from the anime adapation a few years ago. I liked the concept and all but it's obvious the anime execution was pretty poor in the end and the status of a sequel is heavily leaning towards never happening. I didn't have much motivation to see the further developments with the way the anime left such an odd taste in my mouth.

Bored this month I decided to marathon the manga and wow, I cannot believe the contrast in quaility and potential once you get past the Prison Break Out/Scar Chain Arc. Wonderful cast of characters, great detailed battles, interesting twists, and just the right mix of gore and shounen like themes/settings.

All I could ask for was a little better ending set of sequences for Shiro and Ganta in this final chapter, everything got a concert closure besides the two main stars themselves. Overall considering the wonderful ride to the final ending panels itself this manga series is still a 9/10 for me.

They really need to do the FMA: Botherhood treatment with series, it deserves a second chance and I think it would better welcomed with all the source material adapted faithfully.

I really liked the series, but I can't really put it into numbers so easily...
Just one thing, though, really pisses me off:
Ganta was given a death sentence for killing his classmates right? This means that crime warrants capital punishment by this world's court system.
Shiro is in prison, suggesting she was, in some way, tried for what she'd done, which includes killing Ganta's classmates.
Wouldn't this suggest Shiro was given a death sentence as well? Are we supposed to assume she will be executed?
Also, how the hell can Ganta just... 'not care', or 'not be bothered' that she, you know, killed all of his friends? And how the hell can anyone return to "normal" life after being through WWII-survivor-level trauma like that?
I really like what they did with the ending in really all other aspects, but I just cannot be "okay" with how things turned out for our protagonist. Any thoughts on this?

Great finale, ahhh how I loved this manga! I am very happy that at the end Shiro has awakened ...I think that will be tested everything she had to suffer in the past and since she is no longer dangerous (I also think her branch of sin does not work anymore, like Ganta), she can live happily with Ganta, maybe after some time in rehab...

This series was nice until they ruined it trying to be a shounen that suddenly became a psychological-nonsense, that suddenly ended with explanations that came out of nowhere.

There is a difference between a deep story, and a story that tries to be deep. Unfortunately for my taste, this would be related to the second.

Seems like I'm the only one around here that didn't like it, so I will just stay away from this author.

Still can't get over that girl (which I totally forgot her name's death) but I still feel the best way to end was a double kill. I mean all the things ''Shirou'' did, all the suffering she brought upon the other characters and Ganta's friends death can't be forgiven by just being in a coma then opening your eyes in the last page, and since it was Ganta's fault to begin with that all these things happened, it would make sense that he die with her, that way they can be together and atone for their sins.

My first completed manga(In the past few years anyway)I watched the anime some years back, liked it and always wondered how it ended. Only got around to finally reading it three weeks ago. Great artwork. I enjoyed this manga quite a bit for the most part but the ending was a bit underwhelming. I was okay with them both living but since that was the case, I was hoping for more closure on Ganta and Shiro's relationship. I did like seeing what all the others chose to do with their lives though. 8/10
