There is no event ticket in v1. In v1 there are a short novel, a music CD (which contains the OP) and 4 character cards. There is also music CD (character song) in v2 and card kit for the "Dangan Game: Kuro to Shiro". No novel in v2 though.

The key reason for bigger sale of v1 is likely to be its cheaper price (in Amazon it is 2.3k vs 5.3k yen for v2) because v1 has only 1 episode (vs 2 in v2).

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Ah, that sucks. I really enjoyed it. Was hoping for it to have a good chance at a second season, especially the way it ended.

That I think is the key. We had the same conversation last season about Crime Edge. Blood Lad was very similar to Crime Edge in this regard, it wasn't bad, most people who watched it liked it, but at the same time it just doesn't have anything that would hook a viewer so that they would spend the money to buy the CD.

Ironically I think the best indicator of this apathy can be found in the lack of hatred from the detractors. As there is a thin line between love and hate, the lack of hatred reflects the mildness of the love of those who are watching the show, and this is what translates into disastrous (as opposed to average) disc sales. Blood Lad, Crime Edge, Genshinken all fall into this category, I can't recall anyone on the threads hating any of these shows, and in general the comments here have all been positive, but positive feelings are not enough to get someone to pluck down $30-$50 per disc, you need something that moves people.

It's not the most interesting answer, but sometimes you just have to take a show's success (measured by it continuing to get made) at face value: Kaminomi has now had three TV seasons and multiple OVAs and an ongoing manga and a variety of music releases so it has to be doing something right. Whether it's a manga boost (or offsetting a drop) or the anime sales being "good enough" to break even, or loads of merchandise, etc... (surely a combination of them all) in the end, it all boils down to "they wouldn't me making more if it weren't a smart financial investment".

I know lamenting Kaminomi's fairly low video sales is a common refrain, but honestly, I think you should view it as a successful franchise, not a failure to be mourned. I'm not saying it'll continue in anime form forever, but even really successful franchises rarely go beyond 3 seasons.

The thing is if this sale more I'm pretty sure we won't have Goddess Saga animated as season 3. The fact that they jump to the Goddess Saga and skip the content in between is a huge lost to manga fans. Though I agree at your point there it just that a dissapointment when looking at the number cannot be dismissed easily.

Another Takahashi gem from the 80's. Honestly amazed that a show that old could even make one of these lists let alone one that got cancelled and has sort of been lost to the ages so maybe there's a cult following in Japan I don't know about. It gets the odd Super Robot Wars appearance but yeah...it's also pretty dated considering it's supposed to take place in the late 90's during part 1 and has the U.S and Soviet Union colonizing Mars.

Honestly I'm actually genuinely surprised someone posting here besides me even knows what Layzner is, I mean wow!

I'm pretty sure they've got that prequel novel (SnK: Before The Fall) and those VNs to back them up for an interquel season.

I'm also pretty sure that all volumes sold at least 1 mil, with the total amount of volumes sold exceeding 20 mil as of July 2013.

I'm not so sure on this, but hasn't volume 11, the latest volume, has been out for a while? And it's sales exceed 1 mil also?

And volume 12 is not yet released?

Can you elaborate?

Very simple. I mean what is left in the manga that is not yet adapted is not enough for even 1 cour of anime. And that is already counting the vol.11 that was released on Aug 9th.

Comparing the list above with the ranking according to Stalker estimate, it seems Gundam Seed Destiny, UtaPrince v4 and in particular Index2 BD Box are performing stronger than predicted.

As reference the following are the higher ranked BD titles according to Stalker estimate. JoJo, Fate/Kaleid and Data A Live are taken out because they will only be released on Friday:

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Not really know what he means, but if we take out the word "first" I think it is possible at least one Shingeki volume will always be on the weekly list until the final volume is out. But on the other hand, after the series ends the boost of BD/DVD sales by anime broadcast would be no more, so perhaps the staying power of the BD/DVD titles may not be as strong as now.

Quite a bit of an oversight there.

Kinmoza, if it does reach 7k will most likely be in the lower end of those numbers, I can't see 7.5k+.

We know that there are multiple distribution channels in Japan, some of which do not report their sales, I think it very reasonable that the more etchi a show directed at teenagers is, the more likely people would want to use these alternative methods rather than say, order it with a credit card directly from Amazon.jp.

Which goes back to your point: we don't know everything about the finances of an animation. These rankings are a guide, not the determining factor, to an animation's success and likelihood of there being an another season.

There are a lot of things that editors need to gauge and they know that fan feedback they see and receive may not be the whole picture. I remember reading comments from various editors of shounen magazines made at different occasions and one said that they receive a lot of letters from female readers but they know that they cannot thus assume readers now consist a lot more female - it is more likely that females like to write more. And then there is another who said that they receive more objection to fan service than endorsement in feedback but they also know that those who object just happen to be more vocal and in fact they constitute a small minority. As for KamiNomi, I would guess that the peripheral sales should be good, meaning all the merchandise and stuff that is outside of manga and BD/DVD.

At the end having great BD/DVD sales is surely one way for an anime to succeed, but there are many other ways of success too. It is still fair to pay attention to sales number of anime BD/DVD even if it gives only a partial picture of how an anime fares because it still reflects the popularity of the series, and in particular its ability to attract those who are willing to shell out a small fortune to buy the discs and appeal for their devotion.

And this goes back to the question of why Blood Lad has a weak sales estimate. Just getting people to like the anime is not enough, because anime BD/DVD costs so much a bunch of factors need to pile up to make the appeal irresistible to the buyer. So on top of being likable, the series must also have that extra something that reaches beyond that level, be it character design, sakuga and art or just how certain scenes are done. Moe and fan service elements are also part of the drive to add appeal (and no guarantee that they would work as intended).
