I guess that kind of entrance took Araragi 4 episodes to plan it. Lol.

All jokes aside, I'm glad to see my main man Araragi back, and that's one bad ass sword he got there.

Nice arc, enjoyed it a lot, even tho I felt so bad for Hanakawa at the end, and how she got rejected, she would be a much better waifu for him then Hitagi.

Aaaaand the arc ends. Gosh, I loved Hanekawa's arc.

Oh, did anyone recognize the amount of Moby Dick references (esp the whiteness) during this arc?

Hohohoho, MAH NIGGA Arararararagi is back and he looked cool as fuck. Damn I missed Kamiya Hiroshi's voice. 10/10 for the entrance.

Amazing episode. The art was incredibly in this episode especially. Yes finally Hanekewa is now a full developed character, loved her development from Neko to Bake to this arc, she is a well written character. This arc definitely made me like her more. I can't fucking wait for Kabukimonogatari. 5/5 for this episode, 9/10 for the arc.

Is it true that the next episode is a recap ? if so I hope it's considered a special like the Bakemonogatari recap since I don't like them wasting a precious episode on simple recap.

Fanboy mode when Araragi appeared.

Really enjoyed the episode, felt like watching a visual connect the dots. Forgot all about how you could only see Hachikuji if you were lost. Also her striped hair, understandable she dyes it but I hope it'll show again every now and then, I quite like it.

Quite curious now as to where Araragi has been now... wonder if it'll be the next arc.

So if Hanekawa is insanely jealous of other people's happy families then can you just imagine how she was feeling while staying with those happy families. On the one hand I'm sure she was in bliss finally being in a place that feels like a home, but the tiger (and by proxy her) still wanted to burn it to the ground. So every instance of happiness that she was feeling was simultaneously cutting her heart to ribbons. It lends an entirely different perspective to the first 4 episodes.

The lack of Hanekawa saying she has been abused and talking about how her parents excuses don't mean shit to her or any child, is terrible. It was a big part of her letter, why the fuck would you cut that.

It makes it seem like the show is trying to say that they weren't wrong in abusing her. It also removes the most important thing she was turning her eyes away from.

The episode was big and climactic and emotional, but they were so far off the mark storywise that I'd almost rather the novels get translated so I can read them than to watch the anime if they are going to pull this shit.

Araragi rushed after her the second he got her photo, in case you are wondering the actual reason he's there.

You summed up my thoughts entirely. WHY THE FUCK would they cut that out?! That is the WHOLE fucking reason she began cutting her heart away, and the reason why she went over the edge and created the tiger instantly as she noticed they had used the same cookware. It's the reason for the way she was up until now...it's just beyond me why they would skip that.

It makes it seem like her cause for creating these extremely dangerous abnormalities doesn't fit the scale of just how destructive those things were. And it takes the weight out of her break down at the end, when all that emotion and pain came back to her all at once.

I understand that it was a really long letter and they couldn't possibly fit all of it in, but it was the MOST IMPORTANT part of the letter. Not only that, it's the entire foundation behind Hanekawa's character, it's what creates her conflict and what causes her to struggle and ultimately change, and should've been the 'big reveal' of the arc...and all they did was barely hint at it..

I mean it was a fantastic adaptation other than that, but to me that was the ONE thing they couldn't possibly cut out.

Just go to Baka Tsuki(or Quality Mistranslations), Neko:Shiro ch. 61 for the full letter but here's the meat of it:

Hmm... As a response to all who thought that cutting up the letter was a bad idea, I think that Shaft is just constructing Hanekawa's character in a different way. I think the point is that the full version of the letter throws the ball completely to the parents, where as in the anime, the root is in Hanekawa herself. Where as cutting up the letter from that point was kind of "wrong", it makes the letter make more sense in general. They didn't have other "single" occasions in the letter, and making it that way makes sense, as she isn't writing to the reader, she's writing to another part of her, who already knows. It was a plea for help, not an expository dump.

I don't think that cutting it up worsened it. It just changes the viewpoint a bit.

But why construct her character differently at all when the story is being faithfully adapted? The letter even states "that is the worthless answer to the question of why I am the way I am"..so why omit something the novel regards as so crucial? I do see your point in that they keep the focus on the fact that this was all her own doing, a byproduct of Hanekawa cutting away her own heart...but its bound to make viewers think "so that's it? she's just envious of a good family life and love?" Like I said, it lessens the scale of everything, and makes her breakdown scene less impactful. There's bound to be people thinking that she broke down in tears simply because she was rejected.

And the letter in the novel even(I assume) purposely doesn't spend much time putting it on the parents, so as to keep the focus on how she dealt with it.

And when she admits to the abuse, it isn't about revealing it to the reader(well it is) but rather her finally admitting it to herself, no longer turning her eyes away from it. This is a HUGE step in the process of facing everything, letting all that pain and emotion return to her.

ARarararasdfjlaksdfgi came back asdkfjafiojeklmasdfasdf I have been waiting for this episode. That was a great conclusion to this arc, honestly, the second/third episode I didn't like too much but this episode was wonderful. Araragi just made it much better than it already was.

I felt bad for Hanekawa, but I thought it was really sweet when Araragi said that he loved Hitagi more than Hanekawa. OTP moment. :'D But Hanekawa crying was pretty sad.

arc ending nicely i truly feel they focused on Hanekawa little bit to much for my liking but it's over now so whatever hopefully the next arc is better.

If you didn't notice, they didn't even have time for the opening in this episode. Of course, if the arc was made one episode longer, then it would have been a crime to cut that part of the letter. I think it could have been executed as a few flashing walls of text though...

I don't think as a viewer: "That's it?" you see, as it's later pointed out, she isn't only envious of the families, she is also envious of the people themselves (Araragi the most, unsurprisingly). And the tiger is constructed from all her dark parts, not just envy, though envy is the main part.

It's kind of funny that I do see your point in how it lessens the scale, but I just flip it in my mind. I think it widens the scale. It takes the blame away from the original problem, the family, but broadens it to the whole of her character. If someone thinks she breaks down just because she's rejected, they are just blind to the obvious. I do think that the rejection itself has little to do with it, but more like the acceptance of the rejection has a much bigger role (As the rejection actually came way before, in the 15th episode of Bake). The fact she accepts the rejection means she accepts the fact that she is envious of Senjougahara for having Araragi. She has finally come to realize that it's human to cry when you are rejected, but the fact she realized it so late makes her feel even more pitiful.

Just my theory...

What I liked about this arc

Episode and Gaen being introduced
The convo between Black Hanekawa and Shinobu - best part of the entire arc
Shower Scene

What I disliked about this arc
Kako - voice was terrible, motivation was terrible, overall just an absolutely terrible character

Senjougahara's personality in this arc. Not sadistic or tsundere enough. Way too emotional and psychotic (almost yandere

How drawn out the arc was with no real rhyme or reason to it. Honestly it felt like determining what kind of aberration Kako was, how to find him, and what to do about said aberration were just pulled out of thin air which doesn't fit Hanekawa's knowledgeable persona or logical way of solving problems.

Araragi not narrating the arc. Seriously this is a major element that really added something to this series and it really showed how different the series was without the focus around him and on another character instead ie Hanekawa's perspective is boring compared to Araragi's
