THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.

I am suprised no one has made discussion for this awesome manga. O_O
Well guys what do you think of first chapter of Mari Yamazaki's award winning manga. I can now see why this is so popular in japan.

About Chapter:

I like that when I opened first oage there is just beautiful Rome building and so detailed art. I mean maybe this is because I own the hard cover book version or maybe this series just has a awesome creator and can really get devote her work.

Also I like how book has a Japanese effects used in there and they really fit well for the book. I was really suprised when I found reference to Star Wars in that one scene where Lucius is watching posters. Translation notes are useful too in this book. Now why this first chapter just hit me back. It must be because even there isn't actually main plot in the series it just fun to read.

I was kind of pissed off when that guy said to Lucius that his decorations are outdated.

Bath scene were just funny when Lucius entered Japanese bath house his expressions were really funny.

Also I think this series has amazing cultural exchange with Roman and Japanese people. And I can see this long running series because there is so many things which Japanese people use that Roman people don't use.

Art is really realistic too. And I just had to laugh for that scene when Japanese guy was talking to Lucius and he didn't get what they were saying. Really great start of this manga.

This manga was actually recommended and lent to me by my Japanese teacher. As both Japanese and Roman bath culture feel a bit strange to a modern Western reader, I can see why it hasn't been officially translated in English. However, I don't get it why the group seems to have stopped translating it around chapter 5.

This manga has some really magnificent moments with our dear main character. Or at least we can enjoy some awesome gaijin moments and see how you should and should not behave at Japanese hot springs / bath. And I really, really love it how important role language problems play in this manga! Like how he sometimes can get what the Japanese people are saying, and sometimes cannot and just assumes things or can't trust people - or is just oblivious to some pretty basic things.

I'm saying this 3 months later so you'll never see it but well...
This manga is licensed by Yen Press so the scanlation stopped.

No, I actually did see it and read it.

And now, as I remember, I'll tell you that I also read it until the end. I liked it a lot and hope that the whole series really gets an official (or at least an unofficial) translation! ^_^

This is definitely one of my favorite series. I found out about it after watching the short animated miniseries...

As a classics student, I am ever too happy with seeing something like these not only being made but also being quite popular in Japan. We need more works like this--works that reach out across cultural, spatial, and time boundaries!
