THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This being the before the last episode, it really leaves a emotional turmoil in many ways on this Eru fan. Among the multi golden parts of Eru. There is no doubt one segments leaves a lot more on me than any other one in this episode. That is the start of it in the spoiler
as Eru is super depressed and even Yandere capable of killing although impression wise only. Indeed Eru was dark there and for a moment I really though she would do something. Instead I got the following,

And in response got emotional over it. After taking it easy it just kept getting worse in the spoiler
as I though Eru would PUNCH OUT Oreki! FALCON PUNCH!!!!!! But alas no and so more the reason when one sees it as the fault of the super dense idiotic towards love Oreki. Completely NOT ACCEPTABLE he made Eru like that or got her into such a state. Truly not cool with me. Especially when you think of the chocolate she has in the spoiler
for him? AAAAAARGGGHHHHHH! Frustrations all around.

About Oreki’s aggression, it gets even worse in the spoiler
as Oreki almost chokes out Satoshi. Talk about a night in a snowing atmosphere. Although that was nice for setup

About and Ibara. I liked the following part in the spoiler
a lot for Eru really did an amazing job with Ibara in calming her down and comprehending her situation along with helping her.

About the beginning, the above is due to Ibara’s state in the spoiler
that is at the start. With how it was portrayed it was either Satoshi loves me or I KILL HIM! YIKES! Sounds scary of a mind set. Ibara for Yandere too?

About the phone call, it is impossible to deny the state of being in love of Eru in the spoiler
no doubt with a face like that along wit the blush and flow it went that she was so into Oreki romantically there. It was quite amazing for a segment of this episode although a little short.

About Eru in love in the beginning, the start is certainly showing out a lot of Eru’s expressions in love in the spoiler
surely that is no doubt Eru in love. The blushing are different and mood from her. That being said I think the best of it is the following,

Indeed that one face does not lie among the other ones but its expressions is what is best from the other faces of Eru.

About Eru’s anger, OH WOW in the spoiler
that’s all there is to it. Eru blowing out on Misaki and later still not giving up. Now that is quite something of Eru TBH. Really impressive character outrage.

About thee end, quite interesting in the spoiler
bottom line is that it STINKS! WTF is Eru’s chocolate being eaten or at least them showing that? WTF is the progress that should happen? WTF is that end of only a lame chocolate and letter? One thing for sure this episodes proves Oreki is a LOVE LOSER! So is Satoshi. Oreki being worse than Satoshi TBH but both are horrible. Ibara raged out to be calmed down by Eru and Eru almost punched Oreki while crying. GRRRRRRRRRR! NO MAKES ERU CRY! YOU HEAR! I will leave it at that. I don’t think anyone will disagree with that one.

No OP. Childhood girl was refused by the friend guy before where the main guy knew? Now she wants to do revenge with Chitanda to make chocolate?

Her chocolate getting stolen and the main guy needs to solve who stole it. Though Chitanda is pretty emotional and hurried. Before they found it, childhood girl came... It was the friend guy all along and he broke it to put it in the bag!! So he gave up trying his best on everything, but still confused about being with her or not. Though he doesn't want to hurt her feeling by refusing the chocolate. And childhood girl knew that he took it as his answer to one year ago.

lol @ bitter chocolate from his sister and "Ai" as in sadness, not love.

There's more next ep.

Either way, I think the series' climax has been finished, and maybe it's just random eps. with the main guy doing the detective things until the end. (Just a thought from a person who don't read the original work/novel)

Logically yes because last episode was New Year but this one looks to follow after that New Year so they are continuing the story. The question is will it end at St-Valentines or go beyond? And up to where.

S2 will start in the future. Don't know when but in LN comparing this is far from being close to where #11 is.

That was a great episode. In the end, everyone knows what happened without talking.

Satoshi's mindset is so confusing. I hope he make up his mind about Mayaka soon.

This is my second to best episode (or episodes compilations - the first group still the Cultural festival) of this show. I love how they tricked about who to take the chocolate.

But man, Chitanda was crying!!! It just hurts seeing her cried like that ...

I love how this episode ended. While I want to punch Satoshi so bad on being a jerk (Come on, that cute girl gave you all her heart, you jerk!) I somewhat understand how he felt about it. From the end of the episode, I believe he finally accepted her love. <3

The other part that I like about this episode, is how Mayaka really trusted in Satoshi. She knew that he took it, and she said she knew it right away. That was *really*good. Also, the fact that Satoshi knows about her love, and he seems to adore her, that just make this couple so perfect.

Oh, and don't forget that our Oreki was really trashing Satoshi about hurting Eru-chan in the process. My money is on that he's already have some feeling about her. That blocking and arm-grip in the club room really show how he cared.

Oh well, only thing I was disappoint would be a Eru-chan giving chocolate to Oreki. Too bad that didn't happen. I don't think Eru is all-in for Oreki yet as well, though. (Like, she doesn't know yet how she feel about him.)

---

5/5, all the way. So glad that this show got bumped to 22. (Not sure about 24, though.)

Next episode will be the final. Otherwise they would have to animate the fifth novel (and its bonus story), something they won't. Maybe in the future.

But this episode.

It felt like a murder had occured and Satoshi was the culprit, haha. Loved it.

Lol didn't expect there would be another episode after this one ... I was prepared to say goodbye ... but guess not, another week of waiting.

Back to the episode, I thought there were some kind of development between them, but noo, they were somehow involved in the "love thief" case and ...

Damn Oreki you need to do something to make Eru your girlfriend, manning up!

In the end, he just sat there and eat his sis's chocolate alone, you're gonna be a monk before you even realize it Oreki *sigh

I like this episode, it shows Satoshi weakness and bad traits. He loves Mayaka, but he is afraid of becoming who he was before. An obsessive person, who is indifference than the free spirit person he is now.

I'm glad at least Satoshi does not have another love interest, he is just post-poneing the unenviable result. Time to grow up Satoshi.

@Yumekichi11 - a possible second season will appear? I thought this series went through the whole novel already, but I'm happy it hasn't! This show is popular, so I'm positive it will get another season.

I love how they had new faces here.

Oreki's threatening face, Chitanda's desperation, and Fukube's deception.

I knew from the start that Fukube stole it... but that sure is some reason.
He is obsessed to being not obsessed with anything.

I can't wait to see the final episode. The story isn't finished really.

Though I felt like Satoshi was a jerk, I kind of understand his feelings. Although it's clear that their feelings are mutual now, so I'm happy with that. I honestly hopes he gives Mayaka his answer, finally. After all, he did call her at the end. まやちゃん、がんばて!

he's really overthinking things between him and mayaka, but he should just simply go out with her already!

same goes for eru and houtarou and their damn teases! they constantly blush around each other and whatnot, i hope they push these damn relationships already in the last episode. speaking of which, i cant believe there's only 1 episode left, i hope it DELIVERS!!!

I'm guessing they are going to cliffhanger this series. Judging from where they are in the LN, it appears there is one chapter left in the 4th Volume. There is still a 5th Volume...but I am not sure if the series ends there or if that is all that has been published so far. I haven't read the LN, I'm just going off what Baka-Tsuki's website is telling me.

Even if this is a 24 episode anime, it'll seem a bit rushed if they try and fit an entire Volume of content into 2 episodes. It makes me wonder if they'll save Volume 5 for a 2nd Season...but if that's the case, it might take a while because another Volume would probably have to be finished in order to provide enough content for a 2nd season.

Ah man, it just seems like the Hyouka LN and Anime are in such an awkward situation that nobody really knows what they should do.

I was thinking it had more volumes than that. Yeah they should do at least another season with Vol 5 and 6 but with no skipping it can make another 22 episodes most likely. That being said the cramming might be to finish the arc itself.

So, that's why Satoshi x Mayaka wasn't that much stressed out in the series, it's known since the past before. ^^
However Satoshi's behaving like an asshole again.. he truly doesn't deserve such a devoted girl like Mayaka. That poor girl. :(
He should really watch out, Mayaka looks terryfying when really angry.

And it would also be better not to hurt Eru in the process, that's something Houtarou doesn't like, apparently.^^
Ah, that moment of silence..

..resulting in looking in different directions. So funny! :D

And to top all that a 22nd episode (at least)! More time for Houtarou x Eru. Yaaay. \o/

Wow, that was a fantastic, intense, emotionally-charged episode. It was also my favorite one yet. This had an extensive amount of exceptional character development, particularly with the considerable insight into Satoshi. I felt that the story impressively weaved between a large variety of emotions and scenery quite briskly, making for a highly engaging episode.

The larger focus on Satoshi and Mayaka was welcome here, and it seems that they have a far more complicated relationship than Chitanda and Oreki. Said relationship development was fantastically thorough and refreshingly complex, never slipping into peaceful, simple conclusions, but allowing for some natural conflicts to arise, however temporary those might have been. It was great to see that Satoshi does, in fact, have significant feelings for Mayaka, and, after having stolen the chocolate and hurting her and Chitanda in the process, the moment where he finally calls Ibara towards the end, likely explaining to her what he had just told Oreki, was quite satisfying and an optimistic note to end that particular story-line on.

There was this subtly melancholic atmosphere that permeated through the entire episode, from the theft of the chocolate to the final word spoken by Oreki - "Bitter", that amazingly highlighted specific emotions, causing them to strongly resonate. The conversation/argument on the bridge between Satoshi and Oreki was a brilliant, excellently directed scene, in which a plethora of various, complicated emotions were briefly touched upon in a particularly graceful manner, allowing for every tiny flicker of emotion to be plainly visible. Once again, the music accompanied this and many other scenes wonderfully, very effectively setting the tone for many scenes.

The extremely high quality of the animation continues here, and it's really incredible how impressively masterful that element consistently is. I felt this episode was paced quite nicely, never lingering for too long on one moment or faltering into a slightly dull monotony, and I thought this episode's mystery, though predictable, was quite interesting, due to the rather personal nature of it compared to most others.

Oreki was great throughout this entire episode, as he seemed even more like a detective than usual. It was particularly nice to see how concerned he was that Chitanda had been emotionally hurt. I'm hoping for more romantic development with their relationship in the last episode, and, judging from the preview, it looks to be a distinct possibility.

All in all, Hyouka delivers another terrific episode, and it was likely the best Valentine episode I've seen, due to it's impressive handling of these characters, their relationships, and their emotions. It really is a shame that there's only one episode left, as this is easily one of my favorite shows of the year. As such, I expect it to provide a thoroughly satisfying and excellent conclusion.

She also cryptically told Oreki not to worry about not receiving chocolates from her since she doesn't give gifts to people she feels close to, according to her family customs. XD

You guys do realize they could make a movie out of the last volume and not need to make a season 2 riight?
Or, they could wait till the author releases more volumes in order to have a regular season, as long as this one sells fine... though who knows how long that could take.

Jeez Louise, Chitanda went bananas in this episode, just look at her eyes.

I don't like how they foreshadow/hint/whatever you want to call it Oreki x Chitanda, it's pretty damn late to do it now of all times when we are this close to the end.
