----------------------------------------

Journey of the memory lane through the eyes of a Dusk Maiden/Niiya! Definitely a fun mind journey not to mention tragic and violent. This is a very emotional and yet also dark tale of unforgivable sins and the beginning of the ghost story.

Maiden of Loss

I have to admit that this episode was one of the best and serious so far. Told behind the eyes of Yuuko-chan, we see her history and why how became the sacrifice which resulted in her inevitable death.

Memory begins. There's a sister called "Yukariko", who cares about her. Oh, my, he can even feel how she feel. She helps the sick.

The bell, for protective... about the curse? Everyone wants the sick to be sacrificed and Yuuko with her sister wanted to help out. She got attacked by the people. She got scared when at shrine and seeing the mirror. She's dead. Now she's angry at the sick girl (that's how the dark Yuuko was born).

Yuuko should be angry at the elders who threw her down there not the sick girl. Dark Yuuko should have sent them to hell where they belong.

Well first of all, that human sacrifices are not really in line with Shinto. Sure, there were possible human sacrifices int he ancient times (most likely more than thousand years ago) but human sacrifices is not the norm at all. From many Shinto point of view, blood is extremely "tainted" and goes against the idea of purity. That is why killing a live being, whether human or animal, has long lost its standing in Shinto.

Once again, it's not really Shinto but a bunch of crazy villagers doing their pseudo-rituals.

Oh boy, anime original stuff (at least for now?).

Even though I have the feeling to not like this episode, I actually do.
I did rage so hard when I saw those fucking elders grabbing Yuuko's arms and legs with that "we have lost it" look on their faces.

Man, was I surprised by Yuuko's facial expressions after she was thrown into the basement, I have never seen her so desperate and full of hatred (only for that one moment, though).

Shadow Yuuko actually developed her own personality which I never thought of to be honest and it does not support my theory at all. I'm quite excited for the last two episodes seeing Shadow Yuuko act like that.

I was not too fond of Asa (who the hell is she?) but seeing the young Yukariko in action was a huge win for this episode and the choice for her voice was alright, too.

What was up with Teiichi, why was he a kid while he experienced the flashback?

Jesus Christ, I should've waited until tomorrow before watching it, now I won't be able to sleep >.<

This was an amazing episode, I don't even think my heart a beaten once through all of this, I'm so sad for her...

This makes me feel bad for Shadow Yuuko too, I mean, she doesn't deserve to carry that burden all alone, can't wait until next week.

Also, damn, only 2 episodes (+1 with the OVA) left... I'm also sad about that, I love it so much. This is going on my top re-watch list. Even though I didn't read the manga, I hope they remake it by following it and making more than 12 episodes.

I mean it can't really end in a Teichii x yuuko ending since she is a ghost >_> possibley him reconciling her with her shadow or something who knows.

But i am sad that it is ending soon too :( Def one of my favorites for this season right next to kids on the slope and sankarea!

I'm a little concerned about the liberties that their taking with the anime's story, as they've gone on to events that the manga hasn't completely covered yet; then again, I'm not sure how much the author has discussed with them as far as events go.
In spite of that, I think the anime is coming along rather nicely; even though I had a pretty good idea of how this episode was going to end, I still felt taken aback when it actually occurred.

It seems like it was actually Yukariko who unintentionally sold her out; based on Yukariko's attitude after the bath scene, she probably knew that they were taking Asa, and allowed it to happen in order to protect Yuuko; which of course backfired.
It would be interesting if it turned out that Teiichi is somehow related to Asa.

Hara Yumi has such an awesome voice, she does an amazing job of voicing Yuuko; both normal and shadow, she's truly epic.

This is the only episode i've liked from this so far.

I liked that Niiya was the one experiencing the memories. I didn't really get why he was a child though.

I see they were tempted to pulll fanservicey gtarbage again but there was some restraint this time.
The atmosphere could have been even more tense without any of that, but I guess we had to be reminded that we were watching Tasogare Otome x Amnesia and not something else. :L

A decent episode, appropriate atmosphere and point of view. I didn't expect anything as grim, so that was a pleasant surprise. Tying in the "red man" (forgot the name) was interesting. I liked the moments of her impending death, specifically the transition from her initial mindset of being a willing sacrifice to that which led to the creation of her darker self.

And I don't understand the reasoning behind Niiya being a child either.

poor Yuuko and even poorer Shadow Yuuko, I'm sorry for her now
so I hope they will find way to unite them and giving her peace, that would be a good ending

and cause of death - she lost a lot of blood along, so this plus shock and air deprivation did it
still horrible way

Likely she died from blood loss and pain (Pain puts stress on the body), more than anything else really. I think.
I'm not saying she might have starved. Or frozen or suffocated to death, but saying she suffocated is probably too simple judging by how much she appeared to be bleeding.
With that broken bone, it might have cut into a major artery (Such as the Femoral Artery), major arteries bleed a lot and fast.
Also, she likely would have been infected by germs that had been down there and depending on what those might have been, they might have killed her, or aided in her injury becoming worse.
Any germs would have also likely made any pain she already had 10 times worse.
And that place looked like it might very well have been harboring any number of deadly germs.
If they got into her blood, they would have caused more pain and possibly make it to her heart fairly fast with all of that adrenaline racing through her body.

#1: Blood loss (In large quantities) is known to cause death (See Hypovolemia for explanation/info).
Blood loss, can kill someone within an hour if their bleeding fast enough or heavily enough.

#2: Blood loss causes low blood pressure (Which is not good- it can cause comas- and death)- low blood pressure makes people cold and tired.

#3: It's silly to say this, considering her mental state at that time, and what was done with/to her, but she did not rest -(personally I would have likely freaked also, given my past reactions to situations.... even given what I know).
She panicked and she moved around a lot.
--- Moving around makes bleeding worse.
--- Shock - Such as what Yuuko went through- physically and mentally (see- > Circulatory shock & acute stress reaction ) can also aid in the blood loss and body's response -(This is from my own experience with that kind of shock physically and mentally)-That kind of shock places a large strain on the body- the heart beats faster and thus pumps the blood faster.... usually that's caused by the release of adrenaline in the body- which in turn is often brought on in life threatening or fearful situations.
It's suppose to help humans and other animals escape from harm or a perceived harm (The fight-or-flight response)- but in a situation where she was unable to escape to gain help it would have added to her body's extreme stress and the blood would have pumped faster, and left her body.

Anyway- that's the impression of the cause of her death that I got from it. I assume her sister might have gone looking for her after some time, and if she did, she would likely know the general area to look in, if she found her, then she would have likely had to be dead already- so I doubt she was down there suffering for more than a day (Though to Yuuko it likely seemed like an eternity).
It's possible that she did look and did find her.
If Yukariko did not look for her, than possibly Asa would have if she survived. She also would have likely known the general area to look in, but regret at what happened might have made her too frightened.
That if her sister or Asa had found her she would have been dead. Otherwise they might have been able to get help for her.

Yukariko was likely far to regretful or frightened to do anything if Yuuko was already dead (If she happened to go looking and find her):
#1: Was regretful for arguing with her before she died, never having been able to apologize.
#2: If she DID know what those men were doing when Asa was taken, she would have regretted not stopping them, afraid of her sister hating her.
#3: Would have regretted not stopping Yuuko.
#4: Would have regretted not going WITH Yuuko.

She seemed like the kind of sister who might have done anything to get to her sister if she thought she was alive and could be saved. But that might have just been my impression of her. Maybe not everyone got the same idea/feeling.
Also she didn't look like the kind of sister who would NOT go looking for Yuuko at some time.

I mentioned that I thought the author might have been working closely with the animation co. in the last thread for episode 9- and was shot down.
However I think it's highly possible.
It's not like it would be harming the manga for the author to work with the animation people, no one would know if it was spoilers for the manga until it actually GOT there in the manga and likely, people would become MORE interested in the manga to see if that was the case, to see if that's what was happening.

I agree. People who are born after events like that have no part in it. They can't be held accountable for their ancestors wrongdoings. That thought process is just dumb in my book.
What a horrible thing to think about someone because their related to an a$$hole- you can't help who your related to unless you marry into the family knowing something like that.
If your born into the family it is not your fault. People have no control as to who's their blood relative.
I swear, people should think before the type things like that. That's just adding to the cycle of needless hatred in the world.

My point was, there is enough discrimination in the world (Real one) and no matter what the context it's said in, people don't need any more ideas or reasons to hate each-other.
There are all kinds of people, who can be set off by anything. If you think I'm over reacting, Fine.
BTW what does it's genre have to do with it? An anime is an anime..... isn't it o_O;
But I don't think anyone needs more reasons to hate others. And yeah, it's an anime. I'm aware of that.

I happen to love anime. A lot.
Thankfully I don't love it enough to think it's real, but I do have my personal real reasons for loving it as I do. I have a number of friends who have very personal and real reasons that Anime helped them through one way or another.
Even so, I know it has it's drawbacks.
It has it's fanatics who worship it and to them, anime is unfortunately real.

I've heard of people marrying anime characters....... -_-;
Of people killing people and thinking they'll come back because they see that in video games and animes.
Of people killing others because the person who was killed was an artist who drew something they didn't like -(2-4 stories of that sort of thing over the decades).
I heard about 2 soldiers here in the USA -(Separate instances and not in the last 3 years I think)- who were found with "Death Notes" and expelled from their branch of the service.
And you never know who might read a comment like that and it would put a strange idea in their heads.... I realize we aren't responsible for what others do, and can't be held accountable if they get strange ideas from something said on the net.

I realize there are likely worse comments being said in other anime's threads, in present and past.
However when I see something like that; I feel I should point out that people need to try and consider what they say, before saying it.
At least if I point that out then my comment is also linked to that & it will still make a point.
So, if my comment annoyed you, I don't see anything I said as being wrong.
You don't like that, then sorry.
Also, I should mention, that any of the above comments I said were not intended to upset/annoy anyone. I just felt I should point out why I said what I said.
