Used to play recorder as a kid, like probably a lot of kids ^^ but somehow I don't play an instrument, which is pretty sad. Like to sing, though! If I had the time to do it right, I'd like to play piano and/or guitar, an instrument where you can still sing while playing...

Used to play keyboard , but that sucked , so now I'm playing Cajon and I'll probably try out Guitar / Drums somewhere in my life too.
Since most of you have no idea what a Cajon is :
Rhytm box, latin/brazilian/south america / spanish most known/used, you sit on it and play with both hands.

Yay, a poll. >.> I used to play piano for years as a kid. Picked up bass a little in my teens; nothing great but I can manage with one. Also played recorder a bit (don't all kids?) for what it counts.

I have no instruments anymore. Though I'd like to get a MIDI keyboard to be able to tinkle away again. I doubt I could ever play like I used to since my hands are screwed, but it'd be fun to tinkle away still.

I play the bass, guitar, and banjo-ukulele in a church band. Someday I'd like to pick up the drums too.

I started playing the bass (or any instrument for that matter) two years ago. Four months later I picked up a banjo-ukulele. I bought a guitar before I had the bass but I didn't pick it up until recently. I'm self-taught on all of them.

I'm more of a singer-songwriter though. I enjoy the recording, mixing, and mastering parts too. :P

Some of my musical influences are Rie Fu and Maximum the Hormone.

I used to play some piano and clarinet, but I haven't for years. My father's side of the family is very musical (my grandfather, an accomplished musician himself, actually played with Louis Armstrong on one occasion), but I am really not so talented. I was also never satisfied my skill and I know that if I'd dedicated myself to it for ten years I still wouldn't have been happy. Just wasn't for me.

I currently play the piano... although I've stopped taking lessons years ago, I'm more of a self-taught person now. (I'm not getting any better! I play like a not-very-talented 10 year-old ... although I've been playing the piano for 11 years!) I really don't have much of a musical talent although I do enjoy playing sometimes;; Right now, all I play are anime and game music since all the music books that I have are either too easy or too hard.

In school I used to play the recorder and precorder... but I don't think that counts. XD

I'd really really really like to play the violin though. But my mom doesn't want to buy one AND pay for lessons... since they can be quite pricey. I'm hoping the new music teacher at school will let us rent and play violins since I'm going to be taking a class next year. :3

Hmm.. Is it a Brass or a Woodwind? Or Percussion? Or does it involve all of those at once and end in a finale?

Alto Saxophone from 5th grade to 12th grade. I highly doubt I'm going to ever pick it up again though. I really want to learn how to play the piano though, it's beautiful instrument. I guess it can't be too hard with 7 years of musical experience under my belt...but I need a piano...and time to practice =(

Yeah, the piano is a good instrument to learn. The stuff you learn playing the piano can be used almost for every instrument, for example, playing the piano you gain dexterity in your fingers which you need to play the guitar among other instruments, you learn how to read notes, and can use a piano for tuning.

Here is what I get confused about - is the piano a percussion or a stringed instrument? It has hammers that hit strings in it right, so which is it? -.-

I used to play the flute for my school's band (back when I was in 6th grade) but my dream is play the guitar.
I can play a few chords by ear (badly...but at least I can try...I can play the beginning of 'Blind' by Korn ^^) but I do plan on teaching myself to play on both an acoustic and an electric guitar.... if and when I finally decide to buy either of the two.

edit: typos :_:

I took piano lessons when I was kid too, then gave it up. Eventually, when I came across a piano a few years later, I played it and realized how much I actually missed it,

so my parents were able to buy me my own, and I love it to bits ! <3

Currently I'm trying to learn the piano. I've been playing it for a little under a year, now, and I think I'm making great progress. Guitar is something that I wanted to pick up, as well, but I'm being careful so as to not overwhelm myself.

I think I've heard, though, that guitar and piano are somewhat similar? That if you know piano you can jump into guitar a little easier than a complete beginner?

There is, strictly speaking, no relation between playing the guitar and playing the clarinet; they're played fundamentally different. However, the musical theory you learn when learning the piano, as well as the finger strength and dexterity that you develop are of course, useful when trying to pick up the guitar.
