Strange as usual, but also quite cool. Quite a weird thought living with a bunch of "re-births" though.

Hahaha! I love that Mushi. But it is extremely impossible. How bout the soul in the body? LOL! So, it differs upon every beliefs eh?! Heheheh! ^__^

I thought Ginko is going to die in that episode and gets rebirth on the next episode. Hahahahaha!

Yeah, Ginko has been having some close calls recently. I really liked this episode. It's nice when they have a somewhat happy ending.

this was a good episode. though i wonder why the reborn-mother isana had the same thought about the sleeping. If her lifetime was taken away, wouldn't her personality be different possibly? hmmmmm.

yeah that's my though too - if they were returned to their embryo state and "reborn" then the way they were raised etc should have an affect on their personality etc....i guess they just wanted to emphasize it?though ginko never actually knew what the mushi was either.

it was sad when ginko was getting taken down and he thought itd be nice to start over...obviously thinking about his personal mushi problem =[

gah i dont want there to only be 4 episodes left! think they could make a second season? =]
i mean the manga is still on-going XD

The way I saw it, the mushi in this episode fed off their life-time and then produced an embryo of the same make-up. So, while the person that is raised might differ overall from the original, what we know about DNA and biology today,it makes sense some of those personality traits and instincts would have passed through, almost eerily to the next generation of embryo.

I think this definitely fits into one of my top 10 favourite episodes of this series though. It is absolutely incredible.

It IS interesting isn't - the way they are showing us more his method of interaction with the mushi, and also how that can sometimes effect him personally or put him into danger. And also their way of gradually introducing us to his character. Definitely one of the very best anime I have seen this year - possibly even in terms of film and series as well.

I would love there to be a second season of this. It is so unique and I always feel so alive and appreciate of life or miraculous everyday things after watching even one episode. Nothing else I have seen recently affects me that way.

I don't agree with that...in the end she has the same thoughts as Mio, which more leads to the education...(as Mio's mother died, her thoughts were different...and she would like to come back...)

Besides...as far as i know, there is 50% genetic and 50% education...so it is possible to change human even if they have the same genetics as their parents...

Uhm yeah...about Ginko...he should take some more care of himself...he will die for sure, if he keep on doing such dangerous things ~~" lol

This episode dealt with some very interesting issues. I really like the ending, when Ginko says "perhaps dying without this hope (hope of rebirth) is one of life's rare and fortunate blessings", or something pretty close to that.
A past can last a lifetime.

I actually thought that the moment I saw them XD... Maria and Christ! XD Oh my Ginko almost died again!!! It's great the moonlight came to save him... and Isana too!! We can't forget her.... But it was all Mio's fault... why did she wanted to drag the boat to a safer place she already knew she wouldn't be able to move it... Bleh... Whateve...Evil Mushi.... XD

Hahahaha, I wondered the same!

I'm not sure what I think of this episode - they left so many questions unanswered. Like, what Mushi was it and how did the Rebirths end up exactly the same, even when their childhood was different? And why did the moon suddenly stop Ginko getting eaten?

I don't get it :l

It was logical that Ginko didn't have the means to professionally examine the mushi. It was located deep in the ocean, comes out merely at the full moon, and swallows you whenever you go near. The only part you can approach is only the so called embryo pearl. If he had our submarines then, well that can be a start of another story :)

Ginko couldn't do everything. This time he couldn't identify that mushi, and that's fair enough.

I don't want to live in that island either btw. When people are gone, they're gone. The remaining's gotta cope with it.

Another interesting episode.

A mother raising her own mother? That's just deep. I can't imagine my life being reborn always. >.<

I also wondered why did Isana also inherited her grandmother's personality?

Well, we don't know so much about the embryo pearls

but it could have been that everything including personality and mindset are also inherited are the works of the Mushi itself.

Anyway, I was really wondering if Ginko would actually be consumed and reborn again to undo his life as a Mushishi =)

That's twice already he's been in danger. Next episodes should be more dangerous. :D

A truly intriguing episode; I didn’t ever think of the possibility of having a Mushi do this.

Eternal life can be achieved by the Mushi’s medium… If loved one dies, the gap and sorrow their parting created in their familiars’ hearts can be patched up with their “reborn”…

… I don’t ever want to live in such a world. It’s like endlessly living in the past, never being able to move on.
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

That was a cool episode. Although, I would have thought their bodies stayed the same, but their minds would have changed since they're raised differently.

Actually, it makes sense. If you're being raised by the child you raised, chances are it's not going to be that different. Surely not the exact same though.

Really interesting concept nonetheless.

That town is fucked up. Its like the ultimate form of inbreeding. Too many people afraid to die. I wouldn't want to live there. At least the child and her mother made the decision to break that tradition, even if nobody else did.

Good ep. Mushishi is REALLY cranking up the awesome in these last episodes..

Same brain though... and genes can be pretty powerful in determining some of the personality traits you end up with. In any case, same brain so probably similar imagination... I wasn't too surprised that she managed to come up with the same method for falling asleep as her previous self. XD

Same! I was actually left wondering what it would be like if he were reborn: still have only one eye and white hair? Or would he be returned to the state he was in before the time he lost his eye and his hair turned white - and no longer able to see mushi? That would have been horrible... (But maybe he would have preferred that?)

I like how they leave it sort of open while still putting their own thoughts into the question of whenever we have a soul, or if we are determined to be as we are etc.

While I feel that the episode tell us that we are determined to have some things with us or at least have some sort of soul, this changes from what ever you believe in - faith or fate :)
The child Isana remember some of the things from her mother, but was different in other ways, so they said: You are, who you are grown up to be, but there is something deep within you that will either never change, or that is determined to happen.

Nuff said.

This episode had one of the coolest premises yet, but I don’t really see how being reborn keeps people happy. A person is greatly affected by who their parents are and what their childhood is like. A single event could change the course of a person’s life and I imagine that some people who are reborn become very different.

The way you try to sleep is not a genetic trait. It was obviously made that way to contribute to story, but of course it is not correct.

I wonder if all those islanders are just continuing to breed as "mother-daughter-mother". It could be that Isana was actually Mio's daughter right?

So a mushi that grants people some sort of eternal life. It says a lot about Ginko's character that he is comfortable allowing the island to continue to exist in that manner and not interfere, I suspect other mushi-shis would treat that island a little differently.

This is probably gonna wind up a top 5 episode for me all told, only 4 to go until I finish this masterpiece!

I don't believe there is any way of Isana to know the trick to go to sleep of Mana unless she had some kind of excess to her mother's thoughts? Or possibly Mana's lifetime/experience that got eaten. Yet this wasn't been able to be discovered since Ginko couldn't investigate the Mushi from up close without being eaten himself.

the mushi in this episode were really interesting.
if people were given the chance to be reborn, would that be a blessing or a burden?
Thats the life question asked in this episode.
i dont think it would be a blessing... everything in my life gone to be reborn again with my past memories erased? its not worth it, imo.
and ginko has been in a lot of danger lately! i was so afraid that he was gonna be reborn and all his work would be useless in the end :(

Yeah that's what I thought too...I want to see my wife again, hey daughter, can give birth to your mother for me? =_= I don't understand what the father was thinking...these villagers are weird. But the mushi is interesting, eating away people's lives, but in the other direction. And looks like Isana was pretty fond of Ginko, she probably wanted a father figure?

Im not sadden by this episode. I feel more like a wha? with these people. Whats the point of the rebirth of someone when that person has zero memories of who they were. Its basically a clone. They look and proboly share some personality traits but thats it. Its not your mom that your giving birth to its a whole new person. It just doesint make sense in the end since you want to bring that person back but its not the same exact person.
