Interest in older anime + Loved Future Boy Conan = INSTANT RESPECT POINTS ^^

As far as old anime I've seen goes, comparing it to Conan in terms of what you ask for would be 3000 Leagues In Search of Mother. Some of the most human drama i've come across in anime. (my opinion, take it or leave it if you wish)

worth it to a lesser degree..

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro (Lupin is just awesome.)
Horus: Prince of the Sun (The movie that broke the Disney mold in Japan.)
Akage No Anne (Probably the most hardcore slice of life ever.)

.... And just to steal the thunder of people who are bound to mention it... Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Yeah, no, lame that may be. But there is a hell of a lot more to Top wo Nerae than that.

Looking "gay." Interesting, seeing as how the pilots are hetero females. Whatever.

Similar to Conan:
Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku
The Boy Who Saw the Wind
Nadia, the Secret of Blue Water

Lots of great Lupin III's

Lots of great City Hunter

Anyway, Here's some early stuff I've seen and enjoyed.

-animeS - The plural of anime is anime. More than one deer is still deer. There is no damn "s".

You should try the original Slayers. It's not oldschool, but it has aged well and is definitely one adventure after another. Plus if you like it, there are three more seasons to enjoy (my favorite one is NEXT).

If you want hardcore oldschool, since Marco was mentioned you should try Remi as well. However, these two really lack in the "fun" department.
And for something episodic and Doraemonish, Onegai! Samia Don, one of the oldies I liked the most as a child. This is pure win in fun, but lacks in the "adventurous" department. :P
