| Is it difficult for you to be civil? Does it make you uncomfortable? Is your default state to belittle others? I don't expect perfection in human beings but the only time I find it hard to be nice is when the person is not nice to me. I only return what people give me. But my default state is easygoing goofball. What are your experience and thoughts? |

Being kind and being nice/civil are two different things, as there is a moral distinction between being harmless and being selfless. There is, I argue, a greater moral imperative for someone to not do harm than it is perform kindness. You owe a homeless man nothing I could argue, but you also owe him the right to not be beaten to death or belittled by your hands. In any case, to quote Temple Grandin, it is always appropriate to be polite in any situation. I find it hard to be kind as I am not a kind person by default. I am deeply mean-spirited and guided by self-interest. |

| Being actively kind all the time is exhausting, I'm rather passive in this regard, but if someone asks me for a favor, then I usually try to help them. |
