Why Do People Hate Jiji?

I've noticed that ever since Jiji has been introduced, people have been constantly hating on him and I'm curious as to why. Obviously, he's goofy but so are many other loved anime characters, so I'm confused as to why he gets more hate than other comedic characters in anime. Also, almost everyone over exaggerates their quirks like Okarun when it comes to aliens, so do yall just dislike it when it's Jiji? Like do people hate him because he likes Momo? That shouldn't even be a problem since the story clearly favors Okarun, implying Jiji has zero chance. I honestly find the hate for him interesting because I'm usually the one who hates characters like him, but he's in my top 5 favorite characters in the series (right under Evil Eye, and Seiko). Please help me understand because to me, the hate feels like groupthink more than anything else. Like, I saw someone compare him to Zenitsu from Demon Slayer, but even he gets more praise than Jiji 🤦🏾‍♂️

I don’t hate his character but I can see why people would. The way he acts imo is over the top. It’s really excessive I think. So I could see that’s why people are hating on him. Just my thought and how I see it.

When he was introduced I thought the same thing but he became one of my favorites. You have to give him time, he's better than JiJi.

Personally I find him annoying, he does way too much if it made me laugh I could have liked him but I don't like his sense of humor. It's only his good pop culture references and the devil eye that make him a little bearable.

Because he’s arrogant and he gets in the way of Okarun and Momo’s relationship development (part of why I dislike the last couple of episodes of Season 1 when they introduced Jiji was because he acted like him dating Momo was a god given right)

I agree there. If Jiji was introduced earlier, I wouldn't mind as much, but he came after Momo and Okarun were basically a couple lol.

I think so too. That's only my main gripe with this anime. We don't need Jiji to still be in love with Momo because it doesn't do anything for the story. This isn't a harem anime where you don't know who the mc will choose. It's very clear Momo x Okarun is endgame, so why not just pair Jiji with someone else. Teenagers get over crushes quickly anyway

the hate in general i guess comes from people just not liking the fact that Jiji likes Momo. i didn’t like Jiji at first because of that fact, but i don’t hate him as a character. also i’m pretty sure the comparison to Zenitsu is because they both have the same english voice actor (Aleks Le) and their voices tend to be over the top and “annoying” when they’re not being serious.

I didn't like Jiji at first but he's really grown on me to be honest I went to the theaters to see the first three episodes on release day and the whole scene with him and the child that was crying really made me like Jiji.

@BEaSTPadwal15 In that sense we might have a love triangle, with Aira and Momo both liking Okarun. But even then, it´s Momo and Okarun all the way. There´s no way anyone stands a chance. I don´t know if Aira and Jiji will be a thing, we´ll see.
@royalty459 is Jiji still in love with Momo? I didn´t get that feeling since he showed up, I think he´s just overly friendly, he seems to interact the same with Okarun and also Aira. I don´t know if teens get over crushes quickly (mine certainly seemed to linger) but Momo´s crush was when they were kids, so a few years have passed.

For me, he's just too annoying. Too excited over trivial things, and acts childish too often / acts way too inappropriate for his age (bro is nearly an adult).

Well if you remember how there was a bit of a back story when they were kids, he was a total dick to, Momo and then all of a sudden he pops back in crushing on her acting like a total douche bag, and fighting over her with, Okarun meanwhile they’re practically already “together” and the last episode proves that, Momo has a thing for, Okarun. The scene where they’re playing soccer, and fighting over who likes her more, and wants to be her boyfriend was ridiculous.. Just because you liked her when you were kids, but treated her like shit, and all of a sudden your back, and think you just steal her away from, Okarun.. you can fuck right off buddy..

he's annoying and unfunny as hell. he ruined the cute car scene by being annoying again. just adds cheap drama and nothing worth liking, even further in the manga. what makes it worse is how evil eye is actually the likable one. also i don't see anyone praising zenitsu. he's basically ryouga from ranma except ryouga didn't try to force the comedy.
