| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- For a premiere episode, this gives me A LOT to ponder about Shaft's vibes of creating yet another Madoka Magica look-alike (be it main or spin-off stories), but also the same elements to think of where the story wants to go. The fighting style, in a sense, best resembles Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka), with the brutality toned down, but don't put words into my mouth to depict so for the future of this show. Plus also, I'm getting a butt-ton whisk of Yuri vibes incoming... Lily Hitotsuyanagi's character is akin to that of a newbie intro character, for us the viewers to get invested into the meat of the show, and what the power system is like. I can tell for certain that lots of blood and sweat will be poured out. Pretty good OST...well for a mainly girls' show. What to really consider of this show...a Yuri-centered Madoka Magica (if I were to combine it altogether)? Quite interesting. |

| This has a cute start with the introduction of Riri. Among others to keep an eye on includes Kaede, Yuyu, etc. As far as the characters, their chemistry is kinda entertaining but I hope the show will take to develop the most important ones. The weird creatures (Huge) has the otherworldly design that looks like something out of a video game. Riri needs to get it together though. Compared to Kaede and Yuya, she seemed more vulnerable. Not bad for a first episode. I think it has potential. |

| Maybe this will be a supporting anime this season, I like the character design. They are already have big oppai and cute. Some scenes also look good, especially in the weapon / axe transformation, idfc. That was an amazing fight, the combination attack seemed to have defeated the monster.  *It's not Madoka and Akemi, okay....* |
| It looks interesting tho personally i like a bit less action in my anime. Could be just a action packed episode but we will have to see for the future. The characters so far seem ak it was hard to judge since so many of them got introduced so some appeared a bit stereotype. But again there where to many of them for the first episode to give a good judgement. The main seems like a kind girl but it seems like the type of character that does well the first time but after that she needs to get familiar with her abilities. Meaning it might take a while for her to get good. But i we will have to see. |

| This was way better than I initially expected. It pretty much has all the elements that I like. Cute girls, great action and animation. The soundtrack so far is also really solid. I like the OP, that sounded so good! Now for the story, it honestly looks like a typical cute girls vs monsters Anime that I have seen a couple of times before, which isn't a bad thing. Really interested to see where they will go with the story. Production so far was not disappointing, Shaft knows how to do these things. I do love these Yuri vibes it gives off. |

| This premiere was so meh, although a bit different too considering SHAFT worked on it. Feels like one of the least SHAFT projects I've seen since beyond a couple frames and some action, a lot of it felt... normal and a bit bland. Regarding the story setup and characters... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Conceptually, really run of the mill and not fun whatsoever. The character interactions were tediously boring too. The opening song is pretty nice, nothing unique but sounds good enough for me to get into it. Best thing about a very forgettable and one-dimensional seasonal show. Still a better premiere than the Higurashi one for me by a hair. I wish SHAFT just worked on the Monogatari Off Season adaptation, rather than spend time on really mediocre efforts like this and the Madoka Magica spinoff that aired a few months ago. P.S: How on earth was the name 'Huge' approved to be the overall species name of the monsters. That's such a lame choice. |
| Wait what? This is actually great. One of the best first episodes I’ve watched in a while. I’m so in for this ride! Yuri vibes were strong, production quality is very good, that animation and visuals omg. It’s obvious that they put a lot of effort and money in this one. Can’t wait for more! Btw, is this original or from a game or something? |
| For one second I thought truck-kun would get Riri before entering the academy xD That was a decent start. I like the aesthetics, the setting and most of all the yuri vibes. @Yuri-Crusader you will be delighted. Pre-opening scene was looking clean btw. |

| The first half was kinda meh for me, but I really enjoyed the second half. Also, not gonna lie, I'm cheering for Kaede even though I know for fact she have no chance, most because I'm tired of the whole "Innocent cheerful girl x The serious dark haired girl with dark past" shtick have been done to death. |

Nice thighs, Assault Lily starting off right. Jokes aside not really impressed by anything seen from this first episode. I've seen this setup before in plenty of other series. I hope this series tries to do something original to brake the mold. It wasn't a bad episode just very meh, I'll continue it a little longer before considering dropping. Atleast the eyecatchers were pretty |

| I Find myself staring at what appears to be an alternate dimension once again, as there's a lot of positive opinions in here but... that was awful? A massive, bland cast of the most generic characters ever, in an incredibly cliched setup. The animation was good sometimes but I can already see the signs of it worsening, there was a large amount of cg mixed into those fights and it looked kind of choppy. But still, it was the only decent part of this abysmal show. The main character was so lame she might as well be cut out of the show entirely. the stupid naive girl who was saved in the past so she decided to become a hero too, wow I've never seen that before. Oh look it's the stoic, strong one with long black hair who everyone respects, wow! Look, they might be gay, did you hear that? girls, that are gay!!! But don't show them kiss or anything we don't actually want to make people mad that they can't get the girls themselves, so it has to be bait only!! Oh my goooooood their weapons are swords that are also guns, it's just like my favorite anime of all time, the classic masterpiece RWBY (RWBY is more interesting than this was) I guess if you enjoyed this that's fine, but have you considered watching any of the dozens of anime similar to this that already exist? You want girls fighting in magical girl battles with cool sci fi melee weapons? Watch Nanoha or Yuuka Yuuna or even Symphogear, which are all more interesting and less generic trite garbage than this is. If you just want lesbians might I suggest Yuri anime? where they actually kiss and have a relationship instead of baiting you? |

I'm just as shocked as you are to see all the positive responses. 1) The direction was actually terrible. I was initially very concerned seeing Shouji Saeki was the director, and it appears my worst fears have come to fruition. 2) I wholeheartedly agree with you about the characters and setup. Everything is generic. I feel like I just saw an amalgamation of every Magical Girl show in the past, mashed up into whatever this was. 3) The CG wasn't bad, I actually thought it was one of the more redeemable parts of the episode, which is pretty bad for the rest of the episode if CG is one of your stronger points. 4) Characters are walking stereotypes, yeah. 5) Scene composition was terrible. Script was decent-to-not-great. Animation and art was sorely lacking, so many faces not drawn! 6) There was absolutely no focus in this episode and the pacing is completely fucked. Way too much happened that was happening just to happen, I felt. TL;DR: I agree with @Rahkshilord, not sure why everyone thought this episode was good or even anywhere close to "better than expected". My expectations were pretty low and this somehow went even lower. |

| They're so cute XD But put that aside, the animation and fighting scene looks so dope, I enjoyed the first ep, it was great, Shaft Studios never disappoint us |

| Assault Lolis that are lesbians too lol but they are actually not lolis as they are 17 years old already huh the animation is great and the action is awesome gonna watch this then and i like that their names are easy to pronounce like Yuyu and Riri i guess that white haired tomboy girl that Yuyu is talking with at the end is already dead and its just a ghost that haunts her that made her change personality drastically like what Riri implied |

Despair, cause that wish will never come true. They’re basically all done with Monogatari like Wit Studio done with AoT. But I feel ya on this, fam. I’m waiting for the Rebellion followup lol As much as I can understand how supposedly bleak and pessimistic the situation looks, it can’t be helped. If we were to expect most of the stuff to be high caliber stuff, the anime industry would die out real quick. We don’t get to call or make the shots there, but we can sure as hell let em know about our thoughts. |

| They seem to get the hang of 3d animation and art style because some studios can't use it properly. I'm starting to like this anime because of Riri personality and her introduction. |

| God, I wish I had seen such cool action scenes in Magia Record! The action scenes from that spin-off were mediocre at best, and Assault Lily's anime managed to do something really good in the first episode. As for the characters, some of the girls look interesting, but it's a shame that there are so many of them. I hope the story will focus on a small core, to give due attention to each one and not let it become something like Lapis ReLights (an anime that was even fun, but had a cast so big that it was impossible to create connection with any one from them). As for the world, we have something very basic and already done several times, but it's not like it matters. What matters in this anime are the cool action scenes and the interactions between the characters. If this story is just OK but has lovable characters, fun moments and good action scenes, it will be worth watching. |

| Woah! This premiere was far from my expectations. I was expecting a simple anime of kawaii girls who knock out the enemy on duty, without much plot and with a couple of nice details, such as secondary characters and some specific seiyuu, plus the already recognized combat experience that Shaft leaves us, but I ended up finding a lot more and I appreciate it. For me it is a rough diamond and I hope they continue to polish chapter by chapter. |

| It was pretty good but I noticed a lot of weirdness with the audio and visuals. The visuals and audio were fine on their own, but during certain scenes with a lot of tension, instead of playing something akin to that scenario, they play a track that is emotional. Also, sometimes it just cut from one place to another suddenly. For example, Riri shoved Kaede into some cave thing to protect her. How did they get her out? We don't know. They just cut to everyone in quarantine. I just want some badass battle music. The animation was superb but it wasn't as hype as I wanted. The first episode is overall a 7 for me. |
| the animation is very good, but the direction is something simple And the premise feels painfully generic, it's a shame that be only notable thing from Shaft these days. I remember the time when shaft always surprised with an eccentric anime with an innovative and curious animation, but since they made bakemonogatari they ended up exploiting that style to the point of saturating it and finally stopped using it it's so shame. If this anime had been released at that time, it would surely be much better. |
| Enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I would. The OP rips, the character design is great. The show lives up to its name and has a bunch of yuri, and the world building could be interesting. It did feel like a bit of an exposition dump at times though. Hoping this turns out to be some top B grade anime. |
