THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Just came back from the Dallas screening by Aniplex USA before anyone asks how I watched it, and no it is not available in high quality online yet. Still as impressive as the last, some of the cons of CG usage remain, however are less noticeable since they aren't used on characters and only used on vehicles or backgrounds. Also found it interesting that despite the majority of the film being action based, the use of comedic music and sound effects makes them out to be goofy, despite massive gore of blood splatter and loss of limbs. Hanekawa's wound was handled very well, and Hiroshi Kamiya did an amazing job of portraying Araragi's screams of anguish. As a Hanekawa best girl proponent, her scenes were amazing at characterizing her obsession with Araragi, as well as his breakdown of telling her to stop involving herself with him. fanservice was astounding as usual, the 2nd panty shot seen being accompanied by orchestral music and the sun rising from space was a great touch. Dat teen Shinobu bare ass can't go unmentioned as well. Some of the changes to the novel were somewhat disappointing however, such as Hanekawa not delivering Araragi's research materials for learning to fight. And him not reading Shounen manga to learn fighting techniques for a hero. His use of tree powers kind of felt like more of an asspull when compared to the novel, but still very impressive nonetheless. Ending the film on his realization that he is no longer human was a great stopping point, as it leads up to the final film's focus on that tone of despair. Still feel like the first film is superior but I consider this one amazing, just could have been done a bit better in my opinion, comedy is still top notch, and animation is mindblowing, if the final film manages to top the first then this might be my favorite of the series thus far. |

The tree arms were kind of an asspull in the book as well. Are dramaturgy's arm swords mentioned in the book? That would be the only indication that that shit is even possible, but an indication nonetheless. If its made clear that Drama has that power and has it because he is a vamp, i would say it makes sense in-universe and isn't just a deus ex machina. |

Saw it this morning in NY. Although I'm biased since Monogatari is my favorite series, this film was amazing and I liked it just bit more than the first. You gotta give SHAFT credit where it's due. The production values show how much they really cared about the adaptation. I loved all of it. Obviously Araragi still shines out of everyone, I love Kamiya's performance as him as to how great he can change his tone from comedic to seriousness. The soundtrack fit the film nicely too. I loved how they had different versions of some of the tracks from the TV series. There was also so many funny moments. My favorite was probably when Araragi was changing shirts and the music cues in and Hanekawa just stares at him to then eventually start touching him. That scene was perfect. The second funniest one was probably when they were running around in the field, with Coca Cola bottles. As for the fights, Guillotine Cutter's was easily the most visually impressive one in my opinion. They animated all of the fights well. They only have about a few chapters left for the final film and I can't wait to see it. 11/10 would see Sassy/Shy Araragi change in front of Hanekawa again. |

Yeah, it is mentioned in the book that Araragi could change his arms into something else. I'm sure the novel went into some small detail, (I could be wrong) on how to do that, but the movie just had Oshino telling Araragi the short version which was when he said "Give up on being human". |

Keep it up Shaft! Come on 2017, I'm ready! Well they were still at school in the film, just at different locations there, Episode's started at the school but Koyomi fled to a stadium in town, yet in the book all the fights take place at the highschool athletic field, which was a plot point explained so that no humans could witness their vampiric powers. I prefer the way Shaft did it for this adaptation more as we got to see more dynamic movement, like Dramaturgy knocking over desks and chasing Koyomi through halls. They could have taken the source material route to save money by reusing the same backgrounds, so props to them for being ambitious with these fights. |

Finally got to see this...it screened in the big cities (Tokyo, et al) over here in the summer and is being screened in smaller cities from now until early November. Once again there was a bit to of adjustment getting used to the difference between the character animation versus the highly detailed CG backgrounds. As mentioned above the Hanekawa and Araragi conversations were quite good. I more or less got the gist of them in spite of an obvious lack of English subs. Oh yeah...attendance. I went to the 7:30pm screening on a Sunday night and there were two other people in the theatre besides me. |

Once I walked into my theater and got my tickets, as soon as I enter the room I was told to go to, I see it was completely packed. I just stopped and walked back out to make sure I wasn't entering the wrong room. I walked back in, sat down and once I heard and saw the Aniplex logo I knew I was in the right room. I had a big smile knowing that a lot of people like the series. Didn't think there were that much fans tbh. |

Once again I was so happy to see this on the big screen, a really big screen this time. Kizumonogatari's visual humor, over the top fights, and glorious animation really bring out the best an animation studio can do. |

This part was just decent I feel, too many comedic moments, kinda feels that it marred the plot a bit. Looking forward to Reiketsu-hen though. Gonna be the best of Kizumonogatari |

Great fighting choreography especially the first fight against Dramaturgie… Tsubasa & Araragi interaction were golden (both the comedy and the more serious stuff) in this movie, the tension when she was hurt/dying and the emotion portrayed by both actors were amazing. You can feel that in this short amount of time that they knew each other their genuinely care for each other... Can’t wait to see the final movie! |

Wow, I thought the first one was mediocre. But this was just ridiculous: >Ignore parts of the novel indiscriminately >In one part they are making jokes, and suddenly we are super sad! (And we make another joke in the middle) >In the novel the characters were punched, jumped, ran and pirouetted >Here Araragi just runs all over the school and he wins in a completely stupid way "Look, I'm a super professional, but I'm like an idiot while you throw me baseballs!" I hope they do not put Oishi to directing anything in solitary again. |

This movie was incredible. It moved a bit quickly I thought at first, but the more I think about it the more it doesn't really bother me. That's just the appropriate tone for the second act. The fights looked great and were stylish, but the main focus was on Araragi and Hanekawa's relationship and showing how powerful Heart Under Blade's lineage is. I really loved that final scene with GuillotineCutter, that was some of the best Sakuga I've seen in a long time. This isn't a negative, but I also noticed in this movie how much Kizumonogatari is clearly geared towards the fans. That scene where Araragi grows branches out of his arms is literally inexplicable in the anime without some form of exposition or narration and this movie foregoes that. I almost feel like the helicopter sounds we hear afterwards, as if it's being filmed from afar, are almost a nod to the viewer like "we're just here to show you what happens, it's up to you to figure out how". So, if you haven't read the LN, I have no idea what that would make you think lol. It doesn't NEED to be explained, I suppose, you could always just assume it's some inert power he had that came out as a result of him "giving up his humanity" as Oshino says right before everything goes crazy. Still, a bit confusing I'd imagine. Of course, this movie suffers from the same problem all three movies will suffer from, which is that Kizumonogatari should really be a singular piece with changing moods rather than three separate movies with three separate moods. It makes it harder to rate each movie individually, but in the end I'm not going to fault each movie for that, especially since this movie is so different from the first. 9/10! |

HueyLion said: Great film 9/10 for me, although by the sound of it there seems to be a few differences in terms of the novel and movie adaptation. Could someone note all of them down for me, just curious if its THAT much of difference from Novel to Movie. One of the differences i could tell were that locations were either switched or just exagerrated. I dont think Araragi ever actually entered the school building/classrooms in the novel with his fight against dramaturgy. It also didnt take his arm even a second to regenerate. Before he noticed it was gone it was already back. He basically has instant regeneration. Which is later semi cancelled by Episodes Silver cross. Which emphazises how Episode is not a vampire, seeing how he has none of the vampiric weaknesses(silver etc), but he is also not even close to being human, seeing how he has half the amount of power of a vampire. All of this you just kinda had to figure out on your own when watching the movie, when in the novel it's plainly spelled out for you. The biggest difference is definitely that Araragis inner monologue has been completely cut out. Instead they opted for a show dont tell approach. Seeing how much inner monologue is in the novel, thats quite alot thats been removed. Here is an example, when Araragi and Hanekawa are talking about what they studied, right after Hanekawa mentioned she studied math: Ever since I started high school and stopped caring, Id failed a test in nearly ever subject at least once. But math was an exception. It was thanks to my ability to score well on math tests that I was able to cling on to my life as a Student at a selective private school. Even in the teachers lounge, you could find people who, fortunately, equated being good at math with being smart. That said , did I have the confidence to take Hanekawa on about math right then? The answer was an emphatic no. I wouldnt stand a chance. After all, if the rumors werer true, Hanekawa knew her times tables up to five hundred. Five. Hundred. In other words, even a dizzying product like 456 times 321 was something she could supply without thinking. Well, people who use abucuses can apparently do even more impressive things -- but ultimately, no matter how difficult, math came down to multiplication and division. If you bypassed the hassle of multiplying and dividing, you spent significantly less time per question. I was good at math precisely because it wasnt a subject that benefited from a lot of memorization, but even math fell under that category for Hanekawa. Maybe she was far more of a monster than any vampire. Most of what was cut is stuff that fleshed out the characters. Is it needed for the audience to know that Araragi is actually good at math? Not until Owarimonogatari, a dussin novels later. Theres alot thats been cut, but overall I wouldnt say the movie suffered for it. Still, if you want to know what Araragi actually thinks about the situation he's found himself in, read the book. |

I was not expecting to laugh so hard at Araragi flailing around like a fish on a hook vs Dramaturgy, and don't think I enjoyed it this much since watching Deadpool punching Colossus and breaking his hands. Koyomi even grows a little baby left hand. As for Episode the little shit, I seriously hope he dies for what he did to Hanekawa (hated his character ever since he was introduced in the TV series), but am disappointed because I already know he doesn't. At least I'm glad to know the ultimate fate of Gullitine Cutter. Next year: Koyomi vs Kiss-Shot. |

MASSIVE improvements over the first film. This time the crazy stylistic choices of shaft seemed functional and purposeful. The directing, editing, and shot composition were absolutely one point. This pretty much sums up what I've wanted from a monogatari series film since the initial announcement which is a long form version of an episode that can function as a film. The first film felt rather disjointed from the rest of the series imo but getting to see moments that were hinted at in earlier, like why hanekawa was so afraid of Episode in second season, really elevated this film series for me. So impressed and cant wait for part 3. 9/10 |

Score:10/10 In detail Story: 7/10 Characters: 10/10 Art: 10/10 Sound: 8/10 Enjoyment: 10/10 Very happy to have seen a movie with a high quality animation. Visually I was impressed. Whether it is during the fights with breathtaking stagings so much we are immersed in the film or in the dialogues between Hanekawa and Araragi; The story is very interesting and we finally saw how and why Araragi renounced his humanity. Having not read the light novel (promised, I will read it!) I have to say it was a big surprise. I didn't think that Hanekawa had such a big role in the future of Araragi. I know that some people have grumbled at the change of chara design (of Araragi) but I specify I prefer the new one because he's very class. An excellent ending sung in French (my native language). At first I thought I hadn't heard well and concentrating I hear "your star and you ..." WTF In short, a masterpiece not to be missed and which goes up "Monogatari series" in my top animes. |

I'm on the phone now, when I'm on the pc I'll post my complete opinion... am I the only one who felt the fights a bit rushed and that a lot of elements in the fight were not explained to people who did not read the book? Also Am I the only one who didn't fell the soundtrack neither the cartoonesque animations that popped out sometimes, even tho I liked the way they did it on the monogatari tv series. Maybe I'll rewatch before posting my full opinion on this, but it didn't live up to my expectations for sure :( maybe the short format is really handicapping the whole thing |

This was great, might have liked part one more but only b/c this one didn't really pick up until the second fight. I have always been a bat and crab guy but honestly after Owari and this I think I prefer cat. Post bake she is the most well rounded, and wisest of the cast. And in this she was adorable and that scene in the wheat field was beautiful. The fact that she doesn't win Araragi... feelsbadman |

So now that I've had time to think on this film there are a few things I wanna say. I really like How, if you watch the series in the original book order instead of anime release order, we are seeing hanekawas heart break in reverse. In tsubasa cat we see that she is in a lot of pain over her unreqited love of araragi, and here we saw that love blooming. It's quite sad, and I love how monogatari handles being told achronologically if watched in it's intended order. The biggest thing that bothers me about this movie is how it handles the villains. In the book their intentions are laid bare, while here they say almost nothing. I just wish they could have made ghe motives clear, it would have made them so much better as characters. The soundtrack is an instant classic, one of the best I've heard, fantastic work by kosaki satoru as expected. Oishi's direction is visionary and brilliant as expected. Pretty sure there were othe small problems but they were very minor and probably aren't worth mentioning. Can't wait to get the blu ray of Tekketsu (and Owari vol 2! So excited) tomorrow and see how that turned out. |

That was way too repetitive - Fight 1st guy - Flirting with Hanekawa - Shinobu grows a bit - Fight 2nd guy - Shinobu grows a bit more - More flirting with Hanekawa - Fight 3rd guy; Araragi goes super saiyan - To be continued Felt like it was just repeating the same plot points over and over. Really not a whole lot of character development here, the whole thing just felt superficial. Also just like Part 1, I can't help but feel like it's too long. Did this really need to be a trilogy? Both these first two films have felt like 40% longer than necessary given how little actual story content they seem to have. Would probably have been better to just do one longer movie for all of Kizumonogatari instead imo (like maybe 1 hr 40 mins or something) |

tbh, i don't know what to say. basically, and literally speechless. The gore scenes in this second movie, the tense, the thrill, the craziness, i like it a lot. i don't have anything to say anymore for this series. i think they nailed it from every aspect. just look at how they use the cg. its on another level. they targeted it to looked realistic. only the background tho. for the cha design, they intended to make it more detail i guess. and the thing that i like more from this movie is the soundtrack. they alway put a funny soundtrack in the fight scenes and somehow it went along well with the animation xD and for the story, i don't need to say it. it's great obvious. and last thing, even tho shinobu is my fav, i think she is pretty toxic. she might look so kind, but she is actually cruel. still a guess tho. looking forward to the next movie. i don't read the book so i don't really know the difference since many people have a problem with the character development. but to me, i think it was okay. it's not something so impressive, but i think it was okay. it's just a normal character development imo :D |

It had these divots in it and the shading or lack there of made it look reaaly bad like the characters were standing on a picture and not actual ground, took me out of the film. Most of it looks fantastic though, it just wasn't perfectly executed. |
