Favourite Anime and Why?

I'd have to go with Naruto Shippuuden. Many people can't stand it but I can't get enough of the character development and story lines. I've also been watching it for so long now so it's like a part of me.

My favourites are Candy Candy and GaoGaiGar.
Candy Candy for it's awesome character developments, intriguing story, and melodrama.
GaoGaiGar for it's epicness and also the story after the second half of the anime is le awesome.

I don't really have an 'ultimate' favorite; more a bunch of favorites according to their genre.

Clannad is my favorite for character development; I swear I shed gallons of tears from that series xD

Nichijou is pure hilarity to me; there's no true plot, but the gags they use throughout the series had me laughing half to death.

Code Geass and Evangelion are tied for my favorite mecha, though for different reasons. Evangelion for the sheer confusion behind the total plot (I still say the last couple episodes of the TV series were and remain some of my favorite in anime, despite the fact they barely tie into the series as a whole), and Geass because Lelouch is the best.

Madoka Magicka is brilliant in its deconstruction of the magical girl genre. Gen Urobuchi is a genius.

Steins;Gate is spectacular for its character development and the science magic - also, Kyouma's laugh is the *best*. Also, the sudden turn from slice of life into drama was surprising, but definitely made it all the better.

I could prolly list off more, but those are the ones that spring to mind xD

Gotta go with Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The setting blends well with development, story and art.

I heard they're planning a new anime based on the novel entirely. I'm interested.

Another anime is Sexy Commando Gaiden Sugoi-yo Masaru-chan, best random shit I watched.

Don't really have a favorite since I kind of move around with anime's. I could be loving bleach one day and then loving angel beats another day. I started darker than black and that has not disappointed me just yet. Though I cannot get over the soundtrack for Angel Beats! I just love it so much plus the show itself is fantastic. Personally what I look for in an anime is great story, characters, and emotion (something that brings the characters alive!)

I also love Usagi Drop ^.^
Pity the anime was so short, but apparantly the rest of the manga is quite rubbish.

Well, favorite is hard to say, but I've always loved SAO (Sword Art Online). ^_^ It's great, and they're coming out with S2 this fall :D. Though, in my opinion it should have been S3, dividing up the Aincrad(SAO) and Alfeim (Fairy Dance) arcs. But hey, more episodes. :) I can't complain. Though... Just a Christmas special was not much to hold onto until S3. Still. I've always enjoyed the wonderful animation, the RPG aspect, and KiritoXAsuna is one of the best ships ever. They've got good OP/ED too. ;)

I tend not to think about favorite series that much, it's more a vague "This is what I liked a lot when I watched it" kind of thing. Top rated tends to be Lain and a smattering of others that hit hard at the time: "Monogatari," "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0,", "Petit Cossette (sp?)", "Kara no Kyoukai," and other things like those (where do the commas go in a list like this?). Each of those three was amazing in their own way and in very different ways.

The only things I know of are the series that I absolutely despise: Geass and K-On. But that's a separate topic.

That's what I'm hoping. :) As for now, I'm just happy to be studying and grateful that I can be really stubborn. Otherwise idk how long I'd make it into the 4 years. lol If nothing else, I'll take a vacation there sometime. ^_^

Mushishi, Trinity Blood & Ghost Hunt.
Mushishi for the episodic nature & atmosphere. The Trinity Blood manga has some fantastic art, and the costume design is really detailed. I enjoy Ghost Hunt for the characters, I think. Plus it's a bit Sherlock Holmesey, if Holmes had to search for ghosts.

But they aren't very well known, I've found, so I normally just answer the question with Nodame Cantabile :3 Gyabo!

I haven't seen Mushishi but Trinity blood and ghost hunt are amazing! Wish they were both longer :(

Mine is Kokoro Connect because of the great character development and huge amounts of drama they managed to pack into 13 episodes. Plus, the mixture of slice-of-life style and the supernatural fuuzenkazura was intriguing. They did something smart with the editing too - they put the previews before the credits, which meant I could never quite manage close the window before the preview started and therefore I could never get out of my compulsive loop of watching one after the other.

To comment on a few people's favourites above:

SAO had character development, but you never saw it because they skipped every struggle and act of endearing perseverance that Kirito went through so that we could see him walk over everyone, which got tiring, and is not in the spirit of shounen anime, which is usually all about the struggle. It did get me hooked towards the en of season 1 but once they died but were the only ones to come back to life for some unexplained reason *ehem* the company wanted to make money off a second series *ehem*, I sort of lost faith. And for a good reason; I never finished the second season because I found it to be a boring rehash.

Naruto shippuden... I watched Naruto the original series, and it took over my life. I watched about 5 episodes min every day and when I wasn't watching it I was thinking about it. I was about 12 at the time so I would spend a lot of time running around an jumping off things in my garden "like a ninja". Anyway, it has such a special place in my heart because it was such a long and full investment and gave me plenty of emotional moments, especially aide by the awesome emotional music. BUT there came a point where nothing progressed, it has become a wild game of chase Sasuke and the Ataktsuki (i can't remember whether I spelt that right) that is full of filler because nothing much happens. The fights are still awesome because in my opinion, Naruto has one of the best fighting systems in anime, but it can't pull on my heartstrings like before. I have come to dislike Sasuke who I liked before, I truly think that there is no hope for characters like Sakura who I hoped would improve. Thus, Naruto Shippuden does not reach any place on my list.

Kokoro Connect was great. Definitely one of my top choices. I get what you're saying about SAO even if I still like it XD. In the end Asuna and Kirito were saved because they defeated the final boss. Technically Asuna should have been dead, but I think she was saved because she wasn't supposed to be able to "kill herself", and therefore when she died saving Kirito- it wasn't an immediate death. Just my opinion on how it worked, but they didn't really explain in the manga either. I feel like the light novels probably did a better job, but lots of them are still in Japanese so I haven't read them.

I'm currently going through Naruto... and yeah, it does take over your life with so many episodes. I like it alright, it's how I expected it to go. :/ That's too bad Sakura doesn't improve. Oh well.

I don't think Sakura was ever meant to have a massive role, at least physically. It's like she provides emotional support for Naruto and Sasuke. I never liked her anyways though haha.
Naruto definitely went through a big down period, with massive amounts of fillers. It has picked itself back up in a big, big way in the last few months though.
