Cybuster's theme was awesome, as was Granzon, Irm's Grungust, and just about every other scene in this ep.

Only thing missing was probably:

Still no Cyflash =/

This is what I was hoping the payoff would be. Looks like the last few episodes will be making up for some of the show's early to mid-season blahs.

Great format. Early episode fun (Not to mention some awesome looking food) and the rest of the episode, action. A little bit of everybody seen (even in a way that doesn't feel forced) and nobody looked like a load.

New opening on the third last episode. If they are going to fanservice Ivis in it, why is she the only character in the whole series who wears grandma pants?

Also - anybody notice that Mekiboz talks about the forbidden "Hyukkebain"?

In any case this episode is a lot better over the boring that was so many episodes. Or the failure that was the adaptation of Wodan's last bit, though I don't remember the satellite cannon from the game. Too bad the bad guys had to be so full of fail. The script demanded the inspectors die and they were 2D characters. But we only got Axel for about a minute of fighting and he was just constant failure. Not even a soul rocket punch. It would've been a lot more poetic if seiryuin worked on Kyosuke too. Protagonist robots take like no damage in this show at all, it's like they are playing super easy mode of the games.

The animation quality was pretty good, though they reused some footage (Gunner shooting missiles comes to mind). Really couldn't afford to animate it all?

Why are characters like Katina even in the TV show at all? They are like "hi, I'm in this show too. I'll say something and then vanish for 3-4 episodes while the show focuses on the main characters." Not that I'm complaining. They should have pared down secondary characters even more.

Yeah, I kinda don't care about that child's toy when Granzon takes the stage XD

That's pretty much all the gunner has done since it showed up. But remember, this is based on a game, where the attacks are specifically recycled footage. So I don't mind this at all.

Why are characters like Katina even in the TV show at all?

Because fans would be pissed if their character got the chop.

So, you never watched the ED or episode 9 I'm guessing?
Also - anybody notice that Mekiboz talks about the forbidden "Hyukkebain"?

Yep, which isn't surprising considering this is the substitute for not having a moon cradle.
though I don't remember the satellite cannon from the game.

Umm, did you not notice that the whole ship was never in the game (...and neither were many of the other mechs for that matter)
It would've been a lot more poetic if seiryuin worked on Kyosuke too.

considering that the idea was wholly to show how this kyosuke isn't the same as the one in ep1, this would totally defeat the point
Protagonist robots take like no damage in this show at all

yet in the last couple episodes they did... And you called them boring.
couldn't afford to animate it all?

I'd say it is more likely that it is a matter of a lack of time, not money.

I like this ep
Grungust and Irm really showed some great action
They should've made W16's Angleg show at least one of its attacks
And Granzon likes to take fronts of big ships huh? (first was the Shirogane in DW, and now the Inspector's mother ship)

Compared to the "bad guys", who die, losing a hand or getting some chipped armor is nothing. Not a single protagonist robot has actually been put out of commission through the acts of the bad guys except Altaisen.

Just like Divine Wars, where only a throwaway Geshpenst died in the (un-)climactic battle with the Valshione. That was the only "Death" in the entire series. [Outside of the final battle... which I dont recall because it was years ago. SRW lost some limbs or something, that was about it?]

If the protagonists are always so invincible it's boring. Axel in ep1 was amazing. In this ep was he nowhere near as good. They could have shown he's not worthless by causing serious damage to a secondary character (Irm and Task come to mind, since we don't get the slightly whimsical scene of a robot half the size of soulgain trying to grapple with it.)

And yes, they want to show Kyosuke isn't Beowolf, but there's nothing showing Kyosuke would know anything about the Soulgain. He always fought Axel in the Ash Saber. Just compare the "bad guys" in the earlier episodes, where they pwned, to now. Then again I thought it was rather lame that Ash Saber was given such a worthless treatment too. You've got Nu Gundam with hypercharged funnels and the first two times Sword Breaker comes out they get destroyed before anything happens.

The black Angelg presumably was identical to the pink one.

In all honesty, they crammed too much into this episode. They should have condensed the boring story bits in the early-mid part of the show if they needed time. They just killed off half the antagonists.

As for chopping out 3rd-tier characters - who cares if fans complain? The whole issue with this show is that if you haven't played the games you're pretty lost. The protagonist "mooks" should be getting trashed constantly.

My biggest issue with this show is the lack of focus. There's way more characters than in most other shows and the "main" characters (the ones who show up in the opening, basically) should be focused-on. I'm a huge fan of Irm but he's not a main character. All of those scenes with the fairy turd robots should have been one of the *main characters*, probably the ones with guns. Why is Mai getting so much screen time? She gets a fair amount of development and then vanishes again. They clearly had license to change the story, though maybe what we see is the limit to what Bandai would allow.

There's hopefully no weird ass-pulls in the end like in DW. Way too much deus ex machina in this show already.

The Earth Crade ep was boring because of wasted potential. And the battle itself looked too "choreographed". No real fight would be swing-block, swing-block, etc. Zengar versus himself would involve a lot of mistakes. Wodan could have had a crowning moment of awesome like in the game, instead he just sort of sucked.

Incidentally, we might have Beowolf appear again going by the final bit of the opening. Or not.

What about Aardo and Lamia? They were both reduced to an escape capsule. The Grungrust type 3 was destroyed beyond repair, as was Bullet/Kizuha's Grungrust. Per her nickname, Ibis was shot down. Even Lune was totalled when she showed up. Need I mention the Hagane?

The antagonists took significantly less damage throughout the series, as none of them died until the earth cradle.

And yes, they want to show Kyosuke isn't Beowolf, but there's nothing showing Kyosuke would know anything about the Soulgain.

Wha? He saw the soulgain when it first jumped in.

The black Angelg presumably was identical to the pink one.

There is a reason they are called W-series.

But you just said they crammed too much into this ep? How could they find time to trash the mooks without the eps being even more crammed?

My biggest issue with this show is the lack of focus. There's way more characters than in most other shows and the "main" characters (the ones who show up in the opening, basically) should be focused-on.

You contradict yourself here. Aarado and Seola were in the intro, and have probably had the most screen time. Yet you say:
They should have condensed the boring story bits in the early-mid part of the show if they needed time.

@MrTickles you obviously haven't played the games.

So I think your comments kind of pointless as you seem to dislike the whole super robot idea.

Its obvious who the show's target audience is.

Also as a general rule nearly all tv/film series adapted from another source have their depth diluted in comparison to the source material (Akira is a classic example)

Also please don't mention the horribleness which is DW with its poor animation and 3D effects which thankfully OG has omitted (especially the 3D)

I got what I expected from this series

- Comedy
- Romance
- Some corny dialog
- Fanservice
- Lots and lots of awesome explosions/action
- Epic music

I stopped reading right about there. If it wasn't obvious by now, the show was written by fans, for fans and it shows as they try to stretch their time to cover a story way too long (and, to a degree, complex by the multiple storylines being carried) for the medium (weekly anime). The fact that you have to point out that the characters, from a game where getting the unit killed doesn't kill the pilot, don't actually die points out your lack of familiarity with the series and, ultimately, isn't who the production staff is concerned with.

Thanks for coming out though.

I can't tell if this new opening is paying a lot of Homages to Gundam SEED or if it's just borrowing heavily...
