It is similar to "Rosario + Vampire": While the guy chooses the lead girl, he still deals with the antics of the other girls.

I was thinking it was a more implied harem ending (I literally finished reading it 2 days ago).

In my humble opinion, Sekirei is an implied harem ending. Yes, Musubi is a favourite, but Minato is still very interested in the others. Tsukiumi, Kazehana and Matsu ACTIVELY wanted to jump his bones. Minato's reason for not getting physical just yet was first wanting the Sekirei project to be over, then waiting for Musubi to come down from Kouten (a rule made by Tsukiumi), and then wanting to work his way up at MBI. We can't say whether or not he has gotten physical with any of the four. I think it's either
A. He has smashed all four, but definitely Musubi first
B. He still has a mild inferiority complex, and will only overcome it after he takes over MBI, at which point he will see himself as worth of all their affections and be able to reciprocate their feelings.
I'm not including Kusano (still a child, and since she was basically released prematurely, she'll be a child for quite a while still. Their relationship has pretty much been cemented as big brother-little sister so I don't think it would turn sexual) nor Kagari (only developed boobs inadvertently due to responding to Minato's subconscious, still identifies as a male, and it's highly likely that the affection he has for Minato is just the Sekirei bond talking). Often times the reason for not having blatant harem endings is cos polygamy isn't legal in Japan, but Seo literally impregnated both his Sekirei so that reasoning doesn't stand.

With regards to Rosario Vampire,

TL;DR I think it's (implied) harem, but with a bit of favour towards Musubi

i agree with just about all u say except for Rosario + Vampire since in the end when he introduces Moka all the girls immediately come in and introduce themselves as such as well XD and being a litle bit more focused on them i think he will take them as well cause Kurumi will literally dies as Succubus's die if their love gets rejected and Mizore is a snowwoman so after 20ish they have a hard time having children so i fully believe Tsukune wont let that stuff happen to them and then might as well take Ruby cause why not.

Yes, it is a harem ending. No girl is chosen alone, just one has a more promiment role in the plot and may get a bit more affection, thought not a whole lot more like some other series (so the last option is the most fitting). All the girls belong to the protagonist in the end. There is no room for interpreting otherwise.

It is nothing like rosario to vampire which felt more monogamous than harem-ish in the epilogue despite moka's father warnng tsukune about women and pointing out that he had a harem and made a mess of things.

Thought i'd give a more straightforward answer here.

Agreed. If you reread Rosario+Vampire, you'll see that the other girls are more of an obstacle in Tsukune's way. He always wants to be alone with Moka, aspires to go on dates with her and eat her cooking etc. I'm sure he has a deep love (and is even attracted to) the rest of the harem, but Moka is leaps and bounds ahead. Given a bit of time, I think Tsukune would definitely fall in love with the Moka we see at the end of the manga, who is a combination of both inner and outer Moka.

I look at Issa's words from a different angle. I don't think he told Tsukune to be careful with a harem because the harem is a definite thing, buy instead encouraging Tsukune to remain monogamous and thus avoid all that potential jealousy. It's kind of a pity that we didn't see a time skip, because Yukari and Fangfang were pretty solid, as were Koko and the crow tengu lolicon. There was a time (where they were training for the final battle) that I thought Gin and Kurumi were getting very cosy, but then he got paired up with the siren.

Moka papa's words were pretty vague, especially in light of the work's tone. Your interpretation of it is just as good . I don't really want to see a timeskip since it is a trainwreck harem series I don't think I could like anymore lol. I had some fondness for some of its charas when younger, but I don't remember it fondly because it's another fantasy setting harem series that failed to even give a bare minimum respectable open harem ending, let alone anything better. I definitely agree with you that he seemed too into moka from the start till the end.

I've gotta say, I agree with you that it failed as a harem. I watched the anime probably more than 10 years ago. Season 1 is pretty true to the manga, while season 2 goes completely off the rails and just became a generic harem romcom. The author explained that he knew some people wanted a battle shounen (the manga) and a harem romcom (the anime). I do however think it succeeds as a battle shounen.

Yeah definitely, it worked out as a battle shounen lol it's been a long time now, but I kinda liked fanservice and generic stuff in my mid teens back in the day so I didn't mind that back then. It's been a long time for you too lol and I'm impressed you still remembered all the chara names (I remember some too, just not as many XD)

I read the manga last year. I went back and read the mangas of all these shows I watched when I was a kid that didn't have their endings animated. And I'm the same, as a 14yo, pretty much all I watched were ecchi harem romcoms/battle shounens. Still like a good romcom, but prefer the more wholesome, more monogamous stuff these days lol

Haha we all go through that phase, i guess. The worst guilty pleasure during that phase would be shows of the nature of Infinite stratos, manyuu hikenchou, qwaser etc. Glad you've moved on lol my mind has degenerated a bit too much so I keep craving harems everywhere. Like I have a permanent enmity with monogamy nowadays. Probably my dread of arranged marriages also played a role in that.
