As the title suggests, I'm looking for manga/anime featuring prostitutes and/or yakuza, though I expect most yakuza manga also feature prostitution to some extent anyway. I don't think there are many anime with either, but have a go.
As far as prostitution goes, it doesn't need to be the central idea of the manganime or the main character who is a prostitute, as long as in some form, a character is coming to terms with his/her status as a sexual object and maybe that search for freedom from inhibition or personal fulfillment or some other sill romanticised idea. e.g. the brothel episodes of Samurai Champloo, Deep Love.
Actually, it doesn't necessarily even need to be 'prostitution' exactly; it can be any sort of sexual submission of one character to another/others, again, so long as the focus is not necessarily on the sex but on the characters involved in it. Moar examples: Kimi no Na wo Yobeba (though I'd prefer stuff that isn't wholly pornographic in nature), Perfect Blue (think the TV raep scene and aftermath), Bradherley's Coach, the porn actress in the Sanpol and Krezol chapter of Keep on Vibrating, Saki in Platform from Hiroki Endo's Tanpenshuu, even something like the first chapter of What a Wonderful World.
EDIT: Stuff with rape victims instead of whores would be fine too.
For yakuza manganime, though, I'd prefer it be centred upon yakuza dealings and the mafia world itself (e.g. Buronson-Ikigami works), though something where organised crime is often featured but not necessarily central is fine too (e.g. Monster). Something where yakuza dealings are only sporadically touched upon or where a happenstance character is a yakuza and such would be no good, though.
Here I'm using yakuza as a term just because it's cool and awesome and such. Recommendations of any work involving organised crime/mafia connexions/&c. are appreciated, even if they're not Japones.
If you haven't anything to recommend but would feel bad for having read all the way down here without fruit, a third recommendation request would just be for any anime episodic in nature outside of gag comedy: anything from stylised action-adventure (Bebop, Champloo) to character-focused iyashikei (Aria, YKK) to the traveller genre (Kino, Mushishi, Natsume Yuujinchou), so long as each episode is standalone. And I guess short story arcs (Mononoke, Bakemonogatari) are fine too.
Stuff I'm reading/watching, read/watched, or plan to read/watch, for those too lazy to go through my profile to find them:
