Depends on your emotional standpoint. Its plot is basically linear so there are no twists and you know how its gonna end.

Personally I didnt find Your Lie in April as a very sad anime. A character death doesnt always make an anime sad.

Also the context of character death counts. In Code Geass, Lelouch dies of his own choice by asking to be killed by his so called "friend" who has betrayed him countless times because he cannot forgive himself for sacrificing so many ppl just for his wish of a better world for Nunnally. There are ppl who find the death of Lelouch sad and others feel that its just had to be that way.

Regarding plastic memories, here is what I felt:

There can be sad anime without any kind of deaths as well. I felt that Rumbling Hearts is a good example of that. Haruka gets caught up in the accident and is in a coma. But Mitsuki has to endure severe emotional suffering before her feelings are recognized. The sad part of this is not even Haruka wanted Mitsuki to suffer and her coma and delicate health just kept complicating things. Ofc the anime still had a happy ending

Best ending line in anime history = "My name is Saiki Kusuo. I am a psychic."

Yes it is by all means sad, but in both good and bad ways. The romance in it was 7.5/10 imo but definately a good watch - it deals with very relatable issues such as death and the inevitability of seeing your loved ones pass away.

Here's the thing...

Yes, it's sad. Did I shed a tear? You bet your ass I did.

BUT...I don't regret watching it at all. If you're lucky enough to find a romance anime that gives you closure, I suggest taking the opportunity. This is coming from someone who used to never watch anything with a "sad" ending. You'll miss out on NUMEROUS anime that are amazing. Give it a watch!

Worst case scenario you watch a happier anime afterwards, right?

(Spoilers) The two mains get in a relationship, Isla dies and in the after credits another chick comes into the picture. That ruined the whole anime for me.

It's more bitter sweet if anything when it comes to the ending in all honesty.
