What anime would make the best collaboration for a fishing gear brand? You're wrong, it's Evangelion. At least, that's what fishing brand DRESS will have us believe. The brand has announced a new collaboration with the Evangelion franchise, which will bring Eva-themed fishing stuff into the hands of avid hobbyists.
The collab will include a modified version of DRESS' Grasper -- a fish grip with a trigger release -- in the EVA-01 colors. The grip, as well as some keychains, will be available in Japan in mid-June, with the grip setting you back 30,000 yen (about $270 USD), and the keychains 800 yen (about $7).
Perhaps most interestingly, the collaboration will also include an Evangelion-themed smartphone app which will measure the size of your fish. By placing your fish next to one of the keychains, the app will be able to tell you the length of your catch on the spot. The app will also have sharing options that will let you brag about your catch on LINE, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media.
Fishing is a favorite pastime in Japan, but response has led to English and Chinese versions of the app being created. With this new gear, the fish mustn't run away!
