Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Boruto: Naruto the Move

Naruto is back as the newest Hokage and as a parent; he has one son, Boruto, and one daughter, Himawari. Being a Hokage is an unimaginable honor, but it also comes with unimaginable responsibilities. Naruto is faced with making difficult choices as a leader, and as a father.

All Boruto wants is to have a parent that will put family first. As a child, he can't understand why Naruto isn't able to be there for him and Himawari.
Because of this, Boruto endlessly lashes out at Naruto.

One day in the peaceful Hidden Leaf Village, a couple of non-peaceful enemies show up just asking for trouble. They attack Sasuke, and in an attempt to save him, Naruto sacrifices himself.

I know you have both worked together before, but how does it feel playing the roles of father and son?

Sanpei: I’m half thankful that I can be a part of such an epic film and half in awe that Junko’s going to be a father! (laughs)

Takeuchi: Same here! When I started voice acting for Naruto, I never imagined him as a father. Naruto has gone through so many changes throughout the series, and each time I’ve tried my best to take the time to really get into character. The theme fatherhood is something that you can’t really research. So this time, I just tried to stay true to the heart of his character, something I think is of upmost importance.

Are there any aspects of acting that you were careful about?

Sanpei: All I had to go on at first was “Naruto’s son” so it was really hard to get into character. But once I started reading his lines, I finally understood that Boruto is just a normal kid who really loves his father. The scene where he jumps in joy after a simple talk with Naruto is just one example. I just wish he could be honest about those feelings.

Takeuchi: When I first got the script, I sensed a fine line between Naruto’s Hokage life and private life, so I tried to change the mood for each. What I didn't do though was change Naruto’s true nature. Whether Hokage or father, Naruto is and will always be Naruto.

What about the other characters?

Takeuchi: I think Sasuke’s appearance changed the most. He’s finally let his hair down and seems to have turned over a new, less sharp, leaf. Also, Konoha Maru…

Sanpei: Konoha Maru! I remember thinking that even though most of the main Naruto characters have settled down, Konoha Maru is still single! (laughs)

Please send a message to all the Naruto fans out there.

Takeuchi: Life in the Hidden Leaf Village is completely different than before. Boruto plays video games, Naruto uses a computer, it's a completely different era. I feel like that with a more high-tech, real-life setting, it will be easier for viewers to relate with and understand the characters.

Sanpei: Not only are there tons of amazing, new characters, the old crew is alive and kicking. I know all Naruto fans will love seeing the collaboration between the two! Don't miss out!
