Imagine you want to compare War and Peace from Tolstoy (historical novel) with Lord of the Rings from Tolkien (high fantasy) with the Dragon Tattoo from Larsson (crime / thriller). It is mostly impossible as they all have too different base structure to allow reasonable comparison. The best you can do is say something like "I enjoy fantasy and crime more then historical).
Same goes for anime, try compare slice of life with action shonen or with echi. Sure you can prefer one genre over other but otherwise the comparison makes no sense. At least IMO. That is why my reviews are generally meant for the inside genre comparison, although I appreciate that others may interpret it differently. As for "absolutely horrendous unique stuff" - there are dozens anime where protagonist has a game system. Almost all them treat the system like a prop, just a mandatory 'checkbox' for a specific audience group. It exists because their creators thought it must be in the story. It is different here, though. It has its' own agency and purpose in the story, although if you haven't read the manhwa then you do not know yet. Still, that small aspect of "do a daily quest or risk dying" is a small smart hint, a clue that you can notice if you pay attention. Hope you can see the difference against your example (titans eat people)? I need to make my comment reasonably short so I cannot elaborate too much on details of what I meant. Probably my bad. As you seem to value different genres differently (like you mentioned that echi will not get high rating), it explains why we would rate same anime very differently. "The devil is in the details", as they say. |

Thank you for civil reaction, I respect that.
Strange reason to watch random anime in my opinion (there are certainly enough anime that you have not seen yet, so why pick something you dislike?) but you do you, obviously. As for my rating, I was there when first games were just a few lines and characters on the screen, so for me, anime is simply just a medium for storytelling. When I want art, I go to an art gallery. So the art (animation, cgi, that stuff ) is one aspect that I do not rate at all as I do not care much about it. You saw my list, I have seen quite a lot. I drop more anime than I finish and still this one worked for me nicely. In it's genre (progression fantasy), I do not recall better one except for Hunter x Hunter. It is also probably the best anime based on korean manhwa that I saw. It is a rather rare case where genre is the focus of the anime and not just a background excuse for comedy / fan service / yelling annoying brats. There are some rare aspects hard to find in similar stories. Killing people who threaten your life (so many anime avoid that, scared to death that they will get worse PG). System that tries to kill you if you do not do daily quest. Topic of using dead people as summons. So for me, it is 10/10 within mentioned frame. Is it the best story ever? Of course not, I explained that in my review. I understand that it can be 5-6 for other people and have no issue with that. We all are different people with different tastes. But then again, do you really think it is 1/10 or 2/10 as so many people claim? I saw most of what is available and so I know for certain that there isn't much better stuff in the genre. If someone gives trash score, he is simply not honest. Maybe japanese who hate korea, maybe fanatics trying to keep their favourite title higher, maybe hired people from competing studios. Perhaps lost cases who cannot live without beach episodes and anime boobs. (that spoiled Slime for me). Or maybe people who simply dislike progression fantasy genre. If you believe there are better anime in this genre, feel free to recommend. Have a nice day! |

I was trying to say this in my review that I think this anime is important for those who are deeply impacted by it and needed to hear what this anime said. And I'm glad to hear it really helped you, that's great. But it just didn't do anything for me. I'm someone heavily motivated, and I dedicate my life to my work and passions, I want my work to be bigger than myself. I really do put my all into things to an almost unhealthy degree. So, to me the anime is just preaching to the choir, I already do what the anime encourages. Other anime have impacted me profoundly impacted me and pushed me, this just wasn't one of those.

Sure, you can give it another go, but if it's something you dropped only months earlier, I doubt you'd enjoy it just yet. The rest of the series doesn't deviate too much from what you see in the first three episodes; just circumstances escalating toward grimmer states and all other standard storytelling progressions. My reason for regarding this show so highly is how beautifully crafted it is. It's just made to be so poetic and evocative throughout. As you can tell, much of this is quite subjective and the experience might not be the same for you. I think the opening line of every episode encapsulates my feelings better:
Because ten billion years' time is so fragile, so ephemeral... it arouses such a bittersweet, almost heartbreaking fondness. |

Haha, thanks for the compliments. Do you want anime recommendations similar to LotGH or just good anime in general? I would've mentioned Hyouge Mono for the former but I see that you've already watched that. You can also check out Rose of Versailles for a sort of similar vibe. For the latter, maybe it would be more efficient for you to sort my anime list by score and pick whichever interests you. Let me know your thoughts if you try out any of them. I'm rather inactive here (apologies for this late reply by the way) but I'll respond when I'm online again.

a good anime has to make sense, i'm not here to read "critique of pure reason", this is not a philosophy course this is an anime, its purpose is to entertain us and i can't be entertained if i don't understand what is going on, an anime can be philosophical but no at the cost of losing the plot.
for example in matrix i understand the plot but for understanding it's message or symbols i have to read the analysis |

Thanks. Yeah, but... there comes a certain point where anyone who is critical when it comes to media gets labeled pretentious very easily, so I kind of don't take that too seriously, and I think there is a lack of recognition of how this kind of "elitism," infects "non-elitist art"—you'd call it something different, but it's similar. Of course, I've always found snobbishness funny, and I probably do seek to emulate that for humor, but someone did come at me today with "stick to ur action series, kid," (In relation to VS S2) which is why I opened the way that I did, so ironic or not, it was essential. :)

I don't know if I'd say I'm a big fan of Kafka, but I've read most of his writing, and I guess I like him enough to qualify. I do like his Country Doctor story and the few adaptations that exist (in case you're wondering, the other one that comes to mind is from the Nishioka Kyoudai Franz Kafka anthology). I'm more of a fan of Koji Yamamura, and his style of animation merges very well with the weirdness of the story.

Thank you for your friend request.
Ah,ah, ah so your mother is a fellow psychiatrist ^_^ You have a very good idea to study C language, it is used by the graphic engine we exploit to build virtual environments such as the Unreal Engine (C++), other teams used Unity and C# - I was wondering what was the difference and use of C++ or C# with the Unreal Engine. I found a thread here if you are interested : https://www.circuitstream.com/blog/c-vs-c-complete-comparison-between-unity-and-unreal-programming-languages - Good choice for Machine learning too as it will be increasingly involved because we need avatars with a congruent and responsive AI that could interact with patients and ideally learning from interaction or guide correct answers for patient suffering from Social Phobia and needed to be trained in interpersonal skills or communication. - Ah thanks for your feed back, I will give Golden Kamuy a try then ! For me, I never understood the hype about Steins;Gate, the characters seem hysterical or cliches and to not behave very cleverly or plausibly. I dropped it after episodes. Ok for Vinland I will probably not watch it. Casshern Sins was indeed very special as fascinating as depressing. All the best ! |

Hello Qkydzaa. Yes, it is about using technology for psychology or psychotherapy. For instance using VR and computer generated virtual environments to treat patients suffering from mental disorders such as phobia, OCD, addictions etc.
It is related to all the fields you mentioned. Designers and programmers for creation and MD/psychiatrist or psychologist for the application with patients. Besides, I saw your profile, very good choice of anime : psychopass, Gankutsuou ^_^ but what about Vinland saga ? Is it that good ? I read that the protagonist is " I also find the narrative to be quite weak and lazily written. Sure, it shows on multiple occasions how harsh and cruel Vikings can be, but in reality it just depicts a bunch of dudes traveling around accomplishing not much of anything for like 20 episodes". |
