If Mitsudomoe has a LOT of crude sex jokes, then it just might be up my alley! I love Osomatsu as well (I think you're the first other guy fan I've come across haha), and I think Japanese humor is the ultimate pleb filter. LMAO, nah everyone's free to have their own taste in comedy, but the comedic sensibilities in Japanese slapstick and manzai is just on another level for me, and it sounds like you're similar in that way too SINCE you have excellent taste! ;] But I gotta agree with you, though I'd add that even as an adult sex is the funniest thing ever, next to a character kicking another from off-screen that is..
BokuYaba looks adorable! I've yet to watch/read it, but I've seen it around plenty! It doesn't look like a crack-head series from the look of it, is it still worth the read? :O Ooooh, what current MP3 player are you using, I'm just so stoked to finally meet someone who's taken the MP3 pill! I think you articulated the appeal of MP3 players exquisitely, another reason for me using it, is because my phone is a HUGE blocky android phone that can legit pull down my pants like a crude, perverted, little bugger when I put in pocket! THAT RASCAL! MP3's are far less impish due to their size/weight in that regard. Yes, SamFlam is quintessitial 'WTF-core' and if you decide to watch it, do pls lemme know! :D Same for J<->M n Hinamatsuri or watching Apocalypse Hotel, again all of which I'd argue are up your alley too, but that's why when it comes to reading specifically for me (aside from publishing series) I like to read ONE story at a time, how about you? LMAO yeah I've seen 'Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi' around, even tho I'm not watching it, that orange haired girl is kinda cute though 😳 I hope you're able to enjoy it as much as you're able to! 'Candy Boy' looks super sweet and like some high-quality yuri, mid 2000s yuri just hits different imo. AND OREIMO?! GIGABASED, god I'm unsure if I should read the LN or watch it, because Kirino is quite the infamous figure and your description of her and the series makes me wanna try it out even more. Is there a preferred way to engage with that series you'd say? Or is the anime adaption a safe bet? YOU'RE WATCHING SPACE DANDY?! GAAAAH, that's one of the BEST series EVER!!! And to read that you enjoying it in all of its nonsensical glory and 'BONES-NESS'!!! The music, visuals, gags, shenanigans!!! Man if there's an episode in particular you wanna talk shop about I'm game! >:D Though I'd say, don't let guard down too much how it doesn't take itself too seriously. There's ONE episode in particular, that just has a complete tonal whiplash 'THAT'S ACTUALLY EXECUTED GOOD?!'. And plenty that will just hit you in the feels ;c. Perfect series imo Tiger Mask looks dope, I see it ran in SJ too! It's a melo-drama? It seems like an action series to me from the outside at least. I'd wanna read it, but you saying even the fansubs for the anime being bad, makes me think that the manga probably hasn't been tl'd well, let alone at all. HOLY SMOKES!!! You really are watching alot of series! I RESPECT IT, that's like me with reading manga 💪😭. I think watching the French sub of Gintama (my favorite series of all time) would make the wildest ride, even wilder! I mean, given the French subbers also add TL notes and the like, I could imagine understanding some of the cultural references made through them would still be explained. Unlike the English subs where they basically stop all the sovlfvl tl-notes and just stick to subbing the dialogue. Also, ARE YOU FRENCH?! :O YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU READ BAKUMAN!!??? Excellent taste, I've read about the first volume or so, and if you like how it goes into detail about the manga industry then I'd recommend (oh god I don't wanna make you add more to your list but...demo....I'M GOING TOO😭😭😭) 'SHOWHA-SHOTEN' another manga with art done by Takeshi Obata that's about the in's and out's of stand-up manzai Japanese comedy. It's one of my all time favorite series 'it's in my favs list on MAL too!' AND IT'S ENDING NEXT MONTH I THINK? ;_; I'm so sad because it's perfect. Anyways, if you like Bakuman and comedy like you do, I think it's right up your alley! ALSO WTF YOUR SCHOOL LIBRARY HAS MANGA?! I mean my 'local town' libraries have manfa, but my school? Actually idk I'd have to check lol. You also have a fondness for lots of interesting sounding 4-koma manga like, 'Chihiro/Mato-san' have you ever considered making an interest stack for it? ITOSHI NO KANA HAS SEX IN IT?! BUT THE ART-STYLE'S SO CUTE! I still need to read Ashita No Joe, ik it was recently officially released in English so that's nice. Though I've watched Megalo Box so maybe that technically counts as Ashita No Joe as well? Itoko no Ko does seem to have the Iyashikei vibe you're describing, it also seems kinda similar to Oreimo, is it? And Yurumates character design looks a bit similar to Di-gi Charat's! I wonder if there's a connection between the two? OKAY LAST THING I THINK YOU'D LIKE IS ANOTHER FAV MANGA OF MINE WHICH IS WATAMOTE, it's on going 'might be ending soon?' everything I get into just fuckin'....ENDS, so keep that in mind with everything I've talked about thus far lol. It's hilarious, cute, cringe, I'm certain you're aware or have seen/read it before. If you have, tell me what you think! Otherwise! Thanks again for another wonderful message to read through! I look forward to the next! I hope your day's amazing! ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ |

Udonko's OP from season 8. It's catchy and the lyrics are extordinarily stupid lol (thanks Youtube translation feature). HOLY MOTHER OF BASED TASTE! Excellent choice, whenever the song revs up in speed I just get so hyped up! Easily one of my fav Teekyuu songs too! I've read a fair share of people complaining that they wish the Teekyuu lyrics were less 'silly', but I'm always thinking, 'BUT THAT'S PART OF WHAT MAKES THEM SO GOOOD! 😭'. So I'm ecstatic to read that I'm in good company regarding Teekyuu song lyrics haha! I also like like songs that sound like the Tetris theme (isn't it kinda weird that there's two songs from anime I love that sound like the tetris theme? This song from Teekyuu and Miyashita's character song from Mitsudomoe... I'll add that one in this message too, Mitsudomoe also has some insanely good music!!) TYSM for adding that song in the message as well, I loved it! You know what? I still gotta check out Mitsudomoe but after some research it looks up right my alley! Is it something you'd recc as well? It seems far more grounded than Teekyuu, but it's still apparently a gag series which piques my interest! And speaking of tetris songs, that reminds me of TETORIS that exploded not long ago. Which I also really enjoy, and being the tetris song patrician that you are, it might be something that you enjoy if you haven't checked it out already! How long have you been using an MP3 player? Did you just never switch to music streaming services? I think you most definitely should use an mp3, probably the best investment I can vouch for when it comes to playing music on the go! \(^o^)/ I've been using one since I was a wee-lad (I'M NOT SCOTTISH I SWEAR 😫), like when I was in the single digits! Never really used streaming services aside from a short stint in highschool when I jailbroke my Iphone at the time for free spotify premium, phone broke, sought another mp3, and never looked back! ;] These are two I'd recc if you're interested! BEST ONE IMO, SOLID ALTERNATIVE THAT'S CHEAPER BTW, have you been watching/reading anything good lately? ALWAYS! I'm reading god knows how many currently publishing on-going manga series, and always checking out anime-originals that seem up my alley. Favorite show from this season is Apocalypse Hotel! Hilarious, cute, dystopian, creative and unpredictable as all hell. Showing my mother Samurai Flamenco which is one of my favorite series ever. But for reading manga, a series that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, that's being published monthly I think that I think you'd enjoy judging by what I know of your taste (tbhdesu I need to still check out your manga/anime list, which can be fun to compare and discuss!:D) but J<->M is probably one of my favorite on-going manga series. Body swap, hitmen, cute girls, same mangaka as Hinamatsuri. If you decide to try it out lemme know! And similar question for you! What are some of your favorite ongoing series you're reading/watching? (regardless if you've completed said series). Loved reading your reply! Hope you're doin' great! :D |

Well THANK GOD the series wasn't nuked on Mangadex, being that the new tl'd chapter are still being released there 😭😅🫡 But just talking to you has encouraged inadertantly made me want to finish the Teekyuu spin-offs and read (what little albeit) of the manga has been tl'd, so thanks!!! ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ
Teekyuu's music is insanely good man ABSO-FRICKING-LUTELY, I can listen to its music all day long!!!! So many of its OST, OPs, and EDs are on my MP3 player (ik ancient~!!! ;P) what is your fav Teekyuu song!? Thanks for gettin back to me and I hope your day is still going splendidly! ✪ ω ✪ |

Thanks for letting me know! As someone who's primarily a manga reader (and VEHEMENTLY agrees with you that gag comedy works better in a manga format) I will pick up the manga of it instead! 😄 I'm assuming it's fully-tl'd, (rip mangadex ;-; I'll have to read it through a diff aggregator 😭) and I'll likely hit you up at somepoint once I've started reading it! :D Also have you read the manga of Teekyuu!? And if so, would you recc it? Hope your day is awesome, and here's more teekyuu music in the meantime! 🥳

Only true giga-chads understand that very few things even come CLOSE to TEEKYUU!! Also you got best girl Kuro from KnJ in your favs list, mad props! And I NEED to watch paniponi dash still! 😭😭 Seeing that in your list too makes me wanna watch it anymore. Alrighty, I've rambled enough 😅, I hope your day/week is fantastic and hmu whenever you like!!

Pretty normal Precure. An alright way to spend half an hour an episode. A lot of people say Kokoro carries the show, and she's certainly the most dynamic of the bunch with the most interesting character arc. As much as I absolutely love Nana's song and how she sings sweetly about gratitude before dumping a huge column of magic pixie dust on the enemy, she's under the radar most of the time (and Kanon from Love Live Superstar set such a high bar for the "shy girl" that it's hard for me not to make that comparison).
A side effect is that I ended up bumping up Hirogaru Sky up from 6 to 7 on my score because at least Sora was a different kind of blue haired girl and magical girl protagonist than usual. Originally, I was pretty disappointed by the rushed ending and Ageha's lack of screentime. |

I don't know, I guess it'll just be something I'll never understand. I can see someone having a large count on their profile be a big thing. However something like PTW just seems like too easy a fee to accomplish. Honestly I would say to just watch one episode from each anime drop it, and then I guess you'll have a big drop list then? XD
Yes it did actually, I have read a little bit of the Love Hina manga over my time, and they're definitely were more erotic scenes in that version of it. I think it might even have had some very very light nudity from time to time. Though don't quote me on that because it's been a long time since I've read some of it. True, I certainly do hear a lot more vocal outburst when it comes to erotic scenes and anime. But as you said, people will find a way to complain about anything I guess. I don't mind it personally, so long as it doesn't get in the way of the story and become too repetitive. Yes it certainly was a different time for Dragon Ball fans over here outside of japan. I remember I even started getting a little bit into DBZ for like a good year or two before Cartoon Network finally brought it over and it exploded in popularity. I literally had to pay around $30 for a two episode VHS tape. It was the dark ages bro! 😭 Here is the trailer. You may have to turn up your volume, this was the only video I could find. So full Metal panic actually has two seasons already, one being the OG one and the other being second raid. FUMOFFU kind of acts like a spin-off of sorts. It's Canon to the series but doesn't really go anywhere with its plot. FMP was basically divided into two categories, the more edgy mech action and the humor slice of Life School comedy moments. Basically FUMOFFU removes all the serious mech action, and go strictly for the ladder. |

Speaking of which, there has been some controversy on this website about people flaunting their PTW list. How do you feel about that? Is it really such a big deal? Honestly I don't understand how anyone could tout a list like that since you can pretty much put anything on your plan to watch list. I don't know, I just don't get it. =_=
That is a good question. I would imagine if love hino was to get a reboot I think it would probably go more for the ecchi route. Just because that's what a lot of adolescent male fans want these days. It's kind of the way one piece is for me, I love it story but man is it over sexualized in these later seasons. The creators definitely know their demographic. It really did feel surreal. In fact one of the biggest aspects of how anime grew for me as a child was with Dragon Ball. I had to wake up early in the morning for Boy scouts one day, when my mom turned on the TV and Dragon Ball was coming out at like 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. I was instantly hooked. So much so that I wanted to track down the VHS tapes of it, the problem was nobody knew what a Dragon Ball was here in the west back in the mid-90s. I searched all over the mall to try and find the volumes that sporadically came out. Only of which I believe there were around 13 episodes dubbed. Finally after about 3 or 4 years they released all of them. Then once Cartoon Network air DBZ on Toonami it blew up. If you were to go back in time and tell me that that little anime that nobody knew about would end up being the most popular in the world, I probably never would have believed you. In fact on my next reply I'll see if I can track down an old trailer from the original Dragon Ball dub that I watched. Okay off the top of my head I would say you may like a series called Godannar or Full Metal Panic or FUMOFFU. Not sure if fan service bothers you but Godannar does have a lot of it so not sure how much you'll like that one. |

Hmmm now that you mention it, I think I just may have seen this individuals profile as well. Did he have everything listed as complete with nothing on hold or dropped? Because I'm pretty sure I've seen them too. Though just like you, I have no clue what their username used to be. I know someone who had a high complete count was Space Cowboy. An old user on this site, though I have heard he has since passed away according to rumor. Not sure how true this is though.
I do recall this being a thing with Love Hina yes. If memory serves me correctly I think Shinobu did have a crush on the main protagonist, but it never really went anywhere. Although I will admit I have only ever watched the original first season of love hina, and have never checked out any of the extra content such as the movies, ovas and the like. I know the Christmas special is pretty popular. I think maybe my problem is is that some of the female cast members I didn't like. Again I watched it dubbed at the time and just couldn't connect with them. Especially the one that Wendy Lee did. She sounded a bit too country bumpkinish for me in English. xD Thankfully the Japanese audio was much better with her character. You were definitely right about it being more tame when it came to the fan service, something you wouldn't see today in our modern harems. To be honest I'm kind of surprised they haven't tried to reboot the series at this point now that we're talking about it. 🤔 Well I think when it comes to people forgetting about anime, it's due to how oversaturated the hobby is and how easily we can access pretty much any content we want via the internet. Tons upon tons of anime are available at our fingertips. When I was growing up with anime it was very limited to what we had. the only way I could catch series is if I was lucky enough for them to air on tv, find VHS tapes at rental stores and even have to import some of them or have friends make copies of bootlegs versions they had. Which even that was extremely rare and a very poor quality. Heck I remember rental stores back then would only order one copy of a VHS tape, and if it got lost stolen or damaged. That was basically it, they would never order any more. So because things were so limited, is probably why a lot of the older titles are more fondly remembered. It sounds cliche, but we appreciated what little we had. It was a much more tighter smaller list of content to digest and remember as far as what was brought over. At least that's how I see it. Yes they're actually quite a few from back in the day before the 2000 era I could recommend. Before I give you a list what type of anime do you prefer? |
|
Retro8bit | Apr 20, 7:49 PM
It really can. I wonder if there exists a human being on Earth who has been able to keep up with all anime ever created out there? Boy is that a daunting idea for a feat! Especially since not all anime look like traditional anime, such as stop motion and short western style animation that comes also from Japan.
Good point there! To be honest I haven't kept up with many modern harem anime titles in a while. How would you say they differ from back then based on what you've seen of Love Hina? One of the reasons why I may have not been into the series at the time is because I watched the English dub version, and for some reason I didn't like some of the voice acting on it. Many of the characters felt a bit too annoying, where as their Japanese counterparts were a lot more pleasant on the ears. At least for me anyway. If you do enjoy Love Hina then there is certainly a lot of content out there for it when it comes to the anime version. Movies, OVAs, you name it! Well you're definitely talking to a dude who's over 30. XD But yeah, I remember back in like the mid-2000s it was all the rage. I guess it just happens with any series though, unless it's considered a timeless classic in the vein of like DBZ, Welcome to the NHK, Cowboy Bebop and the like. It ends up being forgotten. I remember feeling that way about Dirty Pair, a very popular anime from the '80s but now you hardly see anybody talking about it who isn't into retro titles. |

I see, well I can completely understand your dilemma. We're at a point where there is just an overwhelming amount of anime to watch. I take it you are into the older stuff as well?
I'll be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of Love Hina, then again at the time I had been watching so much harem anime back then that I think I was suffering from burnout by the time I got to it. So I may have to give it another watch someday. It was a trailblazer that really popularized the harem genre I'll give it that. And its popularity can't be denied. |
