Wow I barely noticed we have an "on-hiatus" designation to manga now. Awesome.

@Kineta! Great news!

I think the way MU handles rushed/axed ending - as a category, not a status - is better. The inverse of rushed/axed is basically neverending/fillers, and we wouldn't make a status for that. This is similar in my mind. Genres are something everyone knows should be revisited at some point, it's just a really large project and not on the table yet.

Discontinued should be a series that stopped publishing mid-story without any plans or intention to resume.

Maybe @Kineta can chime in. I am not sure how easy it would be to add a third status at this point. I might be super easy (we already broke all this stuff to add it in, sure why not) or we have move past that and it would be a huge pain to add yet another status.

So, Kineta do you think Canceled should be added on top of Discontinued. Or do you feel Discontinued could fill both roles (maybe add info in the more info tab)?

@Brand, now that's much easier to keep track of.
Axed and discontinued will be tagged separately then?

Nidhoeggr | Dec 2, 2016 7:26 AM
@Brand: I agree that we shouldn't count axed manga as discontinued since this will open pandora's box. Fully support you on this definition.

Okay, here is a Google spreadsheet with every title in the club with the status from Manga Update. Some of these are questionable. I know some of these complete are unfinished series. I have it set so anyone with a link can make changes so feel free to make changes and make notes guys. I might add a few more titles too, there are some other unfinished Tezuka titles from when he died.

After looking through many of them, there seem to be more manga with "Axed" status than discontinued in general

I think there should be another category here to keep it in check.

@Kineta, Glad to see there is some activity with this finally. Thanks so much to everyone who has worked on it.

@Uncrowned_King, I based most of the relations of the MU status of the manga. Many of these are old so it is fair to say the status may of changed or information has changed about it.

@Nidhoeggr, I think if a manga got an ending (even a rushed on) it should count at normal finished otherwise that starts getting way to complicated. I think there would be people who were unhappy with an ending and be like, "I don't like this ending, thus it must have been rushed, therefor this title must have been discontinued." I know that is deep hole to go down but I've seen it. I think leaving discontinued for titles that ended but never got finished would be the most clear and easy way to handle it. But I'll leave that up to the mods to say in the end.

Nidhoeggr | Dec 2, 2016 6:05 AM
Yeah, we need to talk about what defines as "discontinued". WSJ axes most of its new titles for example. Howeve,r these leads to a rushed ending which *is* still an ending even though the story was cut short due to external influences. Therefore it imho is not discontinued (like Highschool of the Dead that just stopped getting new chapters without explanation) or on hiatus like HxH or Berserk, where said break was clearly communicated.
If we qualify axed manga as doscontinued then A LOT of the database will change...

wait sorry I misunderstood "private"
I'll just give the whole thing when I'm done.

Also I noticed that there are many actually completed or ambigious manga in relations.

Uncrow | Dec 2, 2016 5:55 AM
It's set to public tho

I'm up to letter "H" so if you want I can just give what I have.

Nidhoeggr | Dec 2, 2016 5:54 AM
@Uncrowned_King: Blog is private. I will create a thread now. It will be pretty barebones for now (gonna work on it over the weekend) but if you have more news feel free to share it within said thread.

Uncrow | Dec 2, 2016 5:24 AM
I'm using MU as source, is it acceptable?

@Kineta:
That's awesome news. I am busy with some essay work atm, but I will see if I can make some time to assist you. I've waited so long for this to happen :3

Two things.

One: We've been working on adding the two status options to the Manga DB; unfortunately, it is not an easy task due to how the code is written so it's unsure when it may be able to be added.

Two: With manga, the moderators have always manually had to change the status. So a cron was added to auto-switch the status based on the entry dates. Unfortunately, this was added before the new status options were, so On Hiatus series were all affected.

I was looking at the club relations to see if I could quickly fix these titles, but there are many manga which in the list that do not specify in the Synopsis/More Info if they're On Hiatus or Discontinued.

If someone has some time, could I ask you to sort the club relations into these two status options for me, please?
Then:
a) we have an easy list to go through when the options are added, and
b) we can correct the cron problem now.

Just saw the news myself and was going to add HunterxHunter again. Which I did. Oh, HunterxHunter...
