I no longer watch anime and don't want to spend the time to get the site working with the new MAL API, so this is it. I hope you all found the site useful while it was up.

As expected, I should say....... but thanks for the info. Hoping that gets solved soon.

@SheyCroix The site is still broken due to MAL's API being down for months. There is supposedly work being done on either restoring the API or developing a new one, not sure which. animerecs relies on the MAL API to retrieve your anime list when you use the site and to update its internal user database it uses to generate recommendations.

Heya @LordHighCaptain, any news on the site not working?

SheyCroix | Jan 1, 2017 1:54 PM
ah, I see. I used the link posted here, that's why. Thanks!!

LordHighCaptain | Jan 1, 2017 1:51 PM
@SheyCroix You can see the users you were matched with and your estimated compatiblity with them by going to http://www.animerecs.com/?detailedResults=true

Without detailedResults=true it will only show the anime in the order they appear on the detailedResults=true page.

@LordHighCaptain Thanks~
that's quite an interesting way to work. tried it again just now and only got a list of anime. (Makes me think I imagined the best match part that appeared)... So when it's like that (like the club profile picture) it's only listing the things I might like based on what you said, right?

LordHighCaptain | Dec 31, 2016 9:49 PM
@SheyCroix At a certain time every day it checks the "recently online users" page, selects 2 users that have a certain minimum number of completed anime, adds them to the list, and removes the 2 users that have been on the list the longest.

When you ask for recommendations it divides your anime into "liked" and "disliked" according to rating. By default I think it uses your top 35% as "liked". Dropped anime are automatically considered disliked.

It then compares your anime with the recommendations of the 100 users currently on the list of eligible matches. Their "recommendations" are calculated similarly to your "liked" and "disliked". The percentage of their recommendations that you have seen that you like, with extra weight given to users you have many anime in common with, is what decides who your best matches are.

SheyCroix | Dec 23, 2016 10:49 AM
So, how are the users used as "best match" picked? @LordHighCaptain

The problems referred to in the below comment have been fixed.

LordHighCaptain | Aug 24, 2016 8:58 PM
Animerecs is currently broken due to MAL's move to https. See https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1543851&show=0. Despite saying

"Also, in order to allow our 3rd party developers ample time to update their applications, we’ve decided to allow our API to support both HTTP and HTTPS for about 3 weeks. Please update your application(s) as soon as possible. By mid-September, the API endpoints will only use HTTPS."

the API is actually redirecting to https, which Animerecs is currently not prepared to handle. I'll fix when I get a chance.

In other news, you may have noticed stream links for The Anime Network showing up in your results. I've added support for The Anime Network in the wake of Hulu dropping lots of anime from its catalog, making The Anime Network the only place to legally stream some anime.

LordHighCaptain | Oct 18, 2015 7:00 PM
Viewster and Daisuki stream links are now shown.

Ah, thank you!

LordHighCaptain | Jul 26, 2015 10:41 AM
Fixed again. It seems to happen whenever MAL's server IP changes.

Maka | Jul 24, 2015 3:29 PM
The problem is still persisting, I get the same message

LordHighCaptain | Jul 12, 2015 7:09 PM
@Goferu Thanks for the report, it's fixed now.

I am unable to get animerecs to work, I get this http://i60.tinypic.com/24y63c1.jpg whenever I try

LordHighCaptain | Apr 10, 2014 5:08 PM
It does not filter out anime in your plan to watch list so that you can use animerecs to help prioritize your plan to watch list.

LordHighCaptain | Apr 8, 2014 7:22 PM
Database is refreshed. You'll probably see some anime from last season in your recommendations now.

LordHighCaptain | Apr 8, 2014 10:53 AM
We're back in business! The site finally got whitelisted so it can access MAL now. I have to refresh the animerecs database so it's up to date with newer anime but the site's perfectly usable in the meantime.
