So what do you guys think about the new SMT game for Switch? Will it be SMT V?

Just tested it out on a boss weak to dark. Smirking high dark skill didn't kill him (as it shouldn't of course). Non-smirking Alice with Die for Me did do four times the damage my high dark skill did though so I guess she was useful in this fight at least.

Difficulty setting may explain it, but the higher basic one should have normal insta-kill susceptibility for allies so unless that's still not a 100% chance when smirking it should just kill all my allies. It does explain me not always insta-killing enemies when smirking though.

The in-game explanation does say Dark and Light become insta-kill when smirking, but in reality even for normal monsters and not bosses it doesn't seem to guarantee an insta-kill. I don't know why exactly (maybe it needs to be a critical as well but when smirking every attack should crit). In a recent battle the enemy was smirking and used what I think was all enemies dark insta-kill, but only killed me and not my demons (which is not even a game-over since you need a 3000 AP app just to make protagonist death a game over). Didn't check resistances of my demons at the time but it wasn't null/absorb/mirror as there was damage for them.

So basically it's just a lot of damage, that's the way it seems to me at least, I may be mistaken or have looked past something. So the same for bosses, they're not (all) immune to it but it definitely doesn't kill them even when smirking.

And even now that I'm around Alice's base level I can't get much use out of Die for Me so I doubt it will be too useful later on. But as much as I like Alice my problem with Dark/Light now is that the threat of new mobs with insta-kill enemies surprising you is gone. It has never been of concern until this point (level 54) at least, never even looked at new armor either.

But once again, from what I read everywhere it should be insta-kill when smirking so maybe I am just not paying attention. Pretty sure about it not insta-killing bosses at least though.

Out of curiousity - I've heard that Hama/Mudo now deals damage, and only goes back to insta-kills while you're smirking. How does it work against bosses, then? Can you deal damage to them with Hama/Mudo and they're simply immune to the insta-kill effect (do you inflict damage then should you hit them with the spell while smirking), or are they immune against both in general? Can't check that for myself yet due to the friggin region-lock.

Anything related to Persona including the games themselves are steaming piles of shit anyway.

Finally playing SMTIV:F myself. It has gone even further down the casual path in some aspects (like nerving Hama/Mudo) but there's some changes even I can't hate. Like the map showing when NPCs in town have something new to say instead of you having to check in constantly if you care.

Well, to be fair - what did you expect of a 30 minute fragment of a game that's god knows how long. Persona or not, that's not bound to end up good as long as it stands on its own.
