I watch Night on the Galactic Railroad, and while it was nice I really struggle with slow stuff, and it was ultra slow. I could have fun discussing it, but it didn't stimulate me enough to write anything worthwhile on, or otherwise think about it much. RGU is something I'll get around to, but I don't know when- the problem with anime is it seems like there's always so much more to check out and not any time to do so.

Also, I wanted to add, Ikuhara was really influenced with ''Night at Galactic railroad'' Maybe you should check out too. It was really interesting movie (and book it has only about 100 pages) Some of the motives from NAGR you will find in RGU, but you will find a lot of references of NAGR in MP

Hm yet another interesting read. I like reference to ''1984'', one of my favorite books (though quite possibly is not fiction everywhere, it's reality ) Though I can't say I agree with all of your points, but still interesting conclusions. Did you read MP novels?
Also you should check Revolutionary Girl Utena, now that's anime about growing up and many things more. There is a whole site which is dedicated to RGU and people mostly discuss what do they think it happened xD
And Yuri Kuma Arashi, but although I think it's good, it is not as good as RGU and MP

I just wrote a piece on the Child Broiler, my third and probably final Penguindrum analysis.

@Heiko92 Agreed, there's a lot going on in this show, and it's really hard to try and even catch it all, much less put it into intelligible descriptions. To me the really special thing was how they captured stuff that is reallllly beneath the surface. Welcome to the NHK is cool, but Hikikomori are easy to identify and categorize. The same goes with most good literature, it starts with a visible problem and works from there. Penguindrum's themes are so subtle, so beneath the surface that it's really hard to objectively, quantitatively, go "yeah, that's how things work." You just have to go "yeah, I know that feel, I understand what's going on there," and then work to the cause of the problem from there.

I've never heard of this guy's other stuff, but I guess I'll be checking them out soon ^.^

Hm that was really interesting to read. I finished this anime about one year ago and I still think of it as one of my favorites. Nice conclusions, especially explaining why did Ikuhara used penguins and not some other animals. But I think that also one of the main points of this anime is the conflict between those who are wanted and unwanted, just like Shouma's father(if I remember correctly) said, those who are chosen and those who are not. Then we have all that struggle against destiny. I think in all of the books I have read, anime that I saw fail to bring that struggle so real like this anime did. What I also like about this anime is its unique way of presenting the after life. And it's also about love. Dialogue between Sanetoshi and Himari is not only about her own situation but also two different sides of how people view love today.
P.S. Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I barely sleep these days, finals xd
P.P.S. Found this gem the other day xD
