Meiko is a sick woman whom Tsukasa saves from falling to a ground during a fainting spell. Her family, You and Kouichi, take Tsukasa in and offers him a job and a place to live while he works on becoming a professional skater.
After Tsukasa placed fourth in his last tournament, he returned home to find that Meiko had passed away. Tsukasa says he stopped competing because he was unable to keep a promise to Meiko, as he previously said he would win for her and her family to give them publicity.
