Anime Relations: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
This is just for me to make notes about this anime. After watching so many series, I feel as if I can't remember what I watched sometimes, and that makes me sad. This covers episodes 9-26.
---------------------------------------------------
I was planning on giving this series a full 10, but I was greatly disappointed by the last arc. It just got so... I don't know, predictable? And typical. (eg. Keiichi diving for the bomb counting down to the last few seconds) After the previous arcs, I felt let down. And when Rena revealed the "real" truth, I was all, "WTF? Aliens?? Where'd that come from?" I found it amazing that Rena didn't notice the whispering between Keiichi and Satoko and Rika, especially since Keiichi's voice wasn't all that soft. -.- Unless like Rina said, she's rather hard of hearing...

I was a little worried that the maggots were going to infect someone or something. Ok, now I shall say good things about the last arc in case anyone thinks I'm just ranting. The whole "friendship" theme was well done (albeit ever so slightly cheesy), nice to see the three of them work together. (How did Rika manage to get away from Rena? I hope that's answered in the sequel.) Interesting how Oyashiro is turned from an evil thing into something trying to protect people. And I'm stupid for not realizing earlier that Rika was the narrator of the previews after each ep. >_>" (thought it was Mion lol)

The other arcs were quite good, though. No wonder I had every right to feel confused in the earlier eps. Somewhere in my head I was thinking, "Wait, this could be Shion and not Mion." The detective arc gave a brilliant different perspective about what actually happened.

Favorite arcs: Onikakushi-hen and and the detective one

The good: Suspense and foreshadowing and good, smooth tying up of loose ends and connecting the full story (in a way reminds me of Baccano :P). Shows how screwed up the human mind can get.
The bad: Animation was so-so, but it doesn't keep it from being a good anime. The last arc.

Final rating:
Overall: 9
Story: 10
Animation: 7
Sound: 8
Character: 10
Enjoyment: er... 9.99995? Last arc left a bad taste in my mouth...

Looking forward to: More about Rika (the person in the background who knows everything?) and Takano. I'll definitely watch HNKN Kai. ^_^

Anime Relations: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
This is just for me to make notes about this anime. After watching so many series, I feel as if I can't remember what I watched sometimes, and that makes me sad. This covers episodes 1-8.
---------------------------------------------------
The first episode went a little slow, and I found Rena's and Mion's voices annoying at first. But I was glad to see the pace build up, and in the following episodes, I was fearing for Keiichi's life, thinking, "No, Keiichi! Don't die, dammit! RUN!"

I hardly ever get scared, especially when I'm bracing myself for anything to pop up, (this is a horror genre anime after all), but when Mion stuck her eye between the crack in the door when it was closing got me. "Tomorrow, make sure you don't skip school." I wasn't expecting that. O_O Bikkuri~!

I loved the first arc. I thought even if the anime just lasted for 4 episodes, I would still be able to give it a 10. Har har. When Keiichi got confronted in the forest by the two men with clubs/bats/whatever and got bonked on the head and lost consciousness (so the swinging practice was of no use after all?), I knew it was going to turn out to be a BAD END like those in text-based adventure games or visual novels.

I think I got royally mindf***ed in episodes 7 and 8, I got confused between who was Shion or Mion or the demon and the time discrepancies. I had to play back these episodes a few times and even create a timeline. >_> I got a headache and was still thinking about it even after I went to bed. It's all clear now though.

Second arc seems to BAD END #2. I was expecting Rena to turn "demon", but looks like Mion was the main culprit. So, it's like a lesson to people not to misjudge others too quickly: Oyashiro'll get you. :]
