Welcome to my list of lists for the Winter 2017 Anime Season. While the rest of the year looks incrdible, the start wasn't the strongest. Some may say it's one of the worst seasons if they're not interested in the one prominent genre this season - Slice Of Life - but as somoene who enjoys it quite a bit, I thought this season was passable, but only passable at best. With some strong series, big surprises (negative and positive), huge differences in quality and budgets this season was at the very least interesting. WE need ones like this every once in a while, so I appreciate it despite the issues I had.

Now, with all that being said, let's start with the lists.
*Same as in Fall, for categories other than favourite series, I will only be listing the things that were memorable*

The difference between "Songs" and this, is that here I also judge the visuals alongside the music.

April 1st, 2017
Welp, last season was full of good SOL, besides that not much really, so with all the hype this season seems to have, I'm ready to jump in. It should be a lot of fun.... right?
*WARNING! PERSONAL THOUGHTS INCOMING. PLEASE, DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM TOO MUCH*

Boku No Hero Academia 2nd Season - The ammount of fun the 1st season presented me with is really damn high, so I am expecting a lot out of the second. First episode was purely exposition, not that I mind. A couple of things were thrown in as well, good humor and a lot to make me interested. Superhero olympics? I'm in! 7/10 after the first episode.

Attack on Titan 2nd season - Oh boy, I can already see all the extremists going around saying people that it's either shit, or it's the next anime masterpiece. That doesn't really matter to me, but it is annoying. Nevertheless, this first episode was better than I expected. With my hype dying down and me watching more anime that I considered better, I have to say I'm impressed. Actually solid CGI, the visals are very good overall, improving on the first season. The atmosphere is there, the action is there, the cool directing is there, everything is there! I thought I wouldn never say this, but Attack on Titan is back in full swing! 8/10 after the first episode.

Gin no Guardian - The visuals are solid, besides the CGI, the music is okay, but the characters and story seem rather boring. I almost fell asleep during a 13 minutes episode, and it had so much action scenes too. That should speak for itself. I'll need to see more before deciding on its worth though. 4/10 after the first episode.

Granblue Fantasy The Animation - Techincally the first episode aired last season, but whatever. It's solid, but the story doesn't look too promising, the first half was a bit messy, there are some weird sounds choices and somer weird creature disappearance at the end. It would be lower if not for the fantastic audiovisuals. Seriously, they are amazing. 6/10 after the first episode.

Alice to Zouroku- Why? Why do the visuals have to be so poor? I mean, the directing is good, the sound effects are solid, the music is fantastic, but the one thing everyone notices is the worst one! It's not even the CGI, but there are a lot of problems, like the background moving when the car was staying still. But, besides that, this is fantastic. I predicted it being good, so far it's meeting my expectations excellently. Seems like some great stuff, the story is interesting, the characters look like they'll be great, the premise is bold, but they seem to know what they're doing with it. 44 minutes in the first episode really helped. 7/10 after the first episode.

Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records- Oh no. Please no. Welp, I was amused, but the hatred started to blossom already. There is nothing, zero, naught, not one thing that tells me "hey, this might be good". From the ridiculous fanservice that doesn't fit the character's usual behaviour whatsoever, to the annoying MC's, this seems like a mistake. Not looking forward to it. 4/10 after the first episode.

Souryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni... - One more episode. I want to see one more. Otherwise, this is straight up hentai without the sex scenes. Not scored after the first episode, will probably drop.
Edit: Oh look, now there's an episode with nudity. So, it is hentai! Great!

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - What is this and why do I like it? It's the same as always, when I pick Naruto back up I always have those few episodes where I like it a lot, but then something comes up and I drop it again. Well, let's see how far can Boruto take me. 5/10 after the first episode.

Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism - Eyyy this wasn't awful. Nice. Besides that horrible dialogue, that influences the characters heavily, and that one kiss scene, it was pretty fun. The fights are well animated, but too much is going on to udnerstand any of it. All those names that tell me nothing... Meh, it was fun, inoffensive fun too. 5/10 after the first episode.

Sakura Quest - P.A.Works definetely knows how to make a slow narrative pay off. Everything about this series is just simply good. All it needs to do is provide and support its themes and we're good to go. It seems like it'll be a very solid series. 7/10 after the first episode.

Sakurada Reset - Uhhh... Info dump, expostion dump, emotional dump, extremely fast pacing, everyone has the same expression and tone of voice at all times... this feels wrong. 24 episodes though, so maybe it'll pick up in the second or after the first arc. Maybe my low expectations will save it? The last time I asked this, it sure worked, so maybe it'll happen again. Who knows. 3/10 after the first episode.

Tsuki ga Kirei - I love how subtle this is. It's such a simple love story, but the directing is great and the dialogues are too. If I can complain, the CGI feels awkward mixed in with the show's aesthetics. The characters look a tad bit weird too, with the white outlines, but I'll get used to it. The music is great though. My contender for the hidden gem of the season. 8/10 after the first episode

Renai Boukun - I have absolutely no idea what in the living crap is going on, but I am laughing and that's a good thing! No, to be more specific, it's a trashy show that hits the right spotsat the right time. The timing is great. You know what else is? Visual jokes. It's good, but I don't want to set my expectations high, or I'll have another Gabriel Dropout on my hands. 7/10 after the first episode. I need to see how it goes, because this score is not the most thought out one.

Clockwork Planet - Xebec ruining my favourite theme of understaning humanity. Nice. I expect this to be the worst show of the season, the only thing I like it fanservice, but taken out of context because it's hilarious. I mean, the premise isn't bad, the story might go somewhere, animation is somewhat solid, music is kidna catchy but the characters, dialogue, art style, directing and other things are awful. Please, don't be the Hand Shakers of the season. I can only hope it will continue being ridiculous, because that self-awareness is the strongest aspect of it so far. 3/10 after the first episode.

Hinako Note - It's fun! Moe, slive of life, chibi, lots of visual gags. Very enjoyable. It's going to be my moe fix for the season. Great music, good visuals, nice comedic directing. If something, I don't think the whole scarecrow joke is going to work, but everything else was fun. Not doing much just yet though, I'll have to wait and see. 6/10 after the first episode

Re:Creators - Oh wow, this looks and sounds amazing. Who could've guessed! The directing is as good as it should be given the directors previous works. The MC is a bit off sometimes, acts like he was separate from what's going on, but the rest of the cast seems solid and the story is interesting, even though "gods" are clearly the anime and manga creators and the characters just come from different ones. Despite that, this should be fun, really fun. 7/10 after the first episode.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul - Bahamut is back baby! Hell yeah. I just need that same fun vibe back and I'll be set, because the cast is still pretty good, the story seems great and the audiovisuals are on point. I also noticed how great the camera placement is. Well, I hope it'll be even better than the first season, I certainly think it can be. 7/10 after the first episode.

Eromanga-sensei - I don't know how to call it other than "positive trash". It's just like the bread and butter, where I simply don't care, but it's so anime-like that it draws me in. I know it needs to exist though, I'm okay with it existing every once in a while. There's some fun to be had probably. Not much in terms of hopes though 5/10 after the first episode.

Uchouten Kazoku 2 - Damn, I love Eccentric Family so much. I have high hopes for this season, it might be even better than the first, and that's quite a feat to behold. It definetely seems like one of the better series of the year is upon us. Best contender for AOTS so far. I seriously think it does everything better at this point. 9/10 after the first episode.

Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho - I would like for it to be a bit better, but it surely has potential. There were some solid scenes, but the pacing was a bit weird and I have no idea how will the story work out. I have hopes for this though. The one scene that I liked in particular, was the part where Zero asked for soup, but Mercenary only agreed after she simple said she's hungry, because he felt compassion for her not as a witch, but as a normal living being. Cool stuff. Big hopes. 6/10 after the first episode.

Fukumenkei Noise - The first episode was solid, but the tone shifts were awful, the CGI looked ugly in comparison to the other scenes and I think it may focus more on the drama than on the characters. I like it, but it has major issues. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. The MC's voice works better than I expected and the music is solid, which was very important to me. 6/10 after the first episode.

Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka? - Wow. I love this show. I know I have a weakness for kids in anime, but this time they aren't really cute as much as they're interesting, just like all the other characters. The worldbuilding seems a bit weak so far and I'm not big on audiovisuals yet, but the atmopshere and mystery make up for it and then some. Albeoit there will probably be some fanservice and some meh romance. Anyway, this is my pick for the original AOTS, or more like my guess. LWA doesn't count, right? 8/10 after the first episode

Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata ♭ - Let's start our new season with a flashback episode! Yeah! Why would you do this? Arcs that were already complete got brought back in this episode. Those memories would most likely work better in the last season. It really needs to bring out new and fresh obstacles and ideas, desperately even. Sure, I like the cast, the music is solid once again, but the visuals are still a mess, the directing is hit or miss and the writing just took a nosedive into an abyss that it might enver come back from. Low expectations save me! 3/10 after the first episode.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria - Well, this was a mess. I'm not even entirely sure who is the MC, probably the elf mage girl, but I don't like any of them. It's so all over the place, with tone shifts, continued lack of explanation, bad dialogue etc. I just can't find much good here. It's pretty boring too. How could they make it boring? Ah, yes, let's not forget the CGI. It's not bad, but compared to the enemy designs from the original, I don't find it satisfactory. Anyway, it's just simply worse so far. 4/10 after the first episode.

Welcome to my first thoughts on Winter 2017 anime. I will be sharing my views on the first episodes.
*WARNING! PERSONAL THOUGHTS INCOMING. PLEASE, DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM TOO MUCH*

Akiba's Trip The Animation - I think that this might turn out to be either a small, entertaining show, or my least favourite show of all time. Fanservice feels incredibly forced, the humor made me facepalm more than once, especially at the body part super heroes moment, I wholeheartedly hate every character, except the main heroine in the red, she's fine, but I found her slightly annoying. The stupidity didn't work for me like in other shows before it, Keijo for example. Maybe my low expectations can save it. I might have scored it this low, because I wasn't expecting to watch something like this after a really fun Fall season. 3/10 after the first episode.

Masamune-kun no Revenge - For a harem romance anime, feels surprisingly fresh. The reason for that is that every girl in the school wants the MC's body, which is justified by him working out, unlike in other romance anime where every girl hides their feelings from a plain guy. All that is a bit ruined by the tsundere main love interest, who will clearly be picked in the end. With that being siad, the humor and the premise are enough to keep me going with hopes of a lesser Toradora. 7/10 after first episode.

Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel - Weirdly satisfying for such a meh show. The voice cast is great, but somehow, Kana Hanezawa's voice isn't cute, she sounds annoying. The idea is pretty cool. The school fragments were a bit underwhelming, they didn't work for me at all. On the other hand, the action scenes were cool and interesting. Judging by the opening, this may turn into something darker. I'm not keeping my hopes up, but I think it can be a good time. 5/10 after first episode.

Youjo Senki - I found it incredibly dumb. Nobody except the MC can dodge, soldiers are insubordinate towards their superiors too often during a war, one of the mage leaders ordered an attack that took a lot of magic from his soldiers, just to TRY and kill a few scouts. With all that being said, I don't think it was a bad first episode. Interesting set up with an interesting MC. I just hope this won't be another Izetta, where the tactics of the war aspect will be glossed over. This is war, not just some plain battle. 4/10 after first episode.

Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu - A moe anime about bikes, where have I seen this before..... What can I say? It's a plain SOL with cute girls, but because J.C Staff is a part of the project, the backgrounds look gorgeous. I laughed here and there, but I was also annoyed by the fact that MC doesn't even know that she has to pedal in order to ride a bike. I have to mention the incredibly cute real life segments in the end, they melt my heart. 6/10 after the first episode.

Seiren - Welcome back Amagami SS, glad to have you back. It's going to be a bunch of plain, generic love stories, but I don't find that to be a bad thing, I miss those types of stories actually, especially after all the ridiculous ideas being thrown at me every time I watch an anime with a romance element. It was calming, funny, cheerful, felt realisitic. One problem I had was that it was hard to remeber all the names. Oh, and let's not forget, one of the characters is that brat, Ai Nanasaki's brother from Amagami. She was the best girl. 8/10 after the first episode.

Urara Meirochou - The loli fanservice was too much for me. I liek the premise of a place for fortune-tellers to grow, but why do you have to show all the underboob of 15 year old girls in the very episode? After that it was cute and really funny at the end. " I want the commander's sickness in me" Yeah.... It really is too sexual for a moe show. 5/10 after the first episode.

Demi-chan wa Kataritai - I have found it. The original AOTS in my predictions. If you discount all the sequels and all the remakes, this is the thing that I'm going to be looking forward to the most. Fantastic idea of learning about demi-humans through interviews, watching them grow together and see how they live in a normal enviroment. It's not a mind blowing anime, but it's good all around. It does feel weird when an old man talks to little girls about erotic implications of neck biting. 8/10 after the first episode.

Tales Of Zestira the X 2nd Season - Pretty poor start, not much happened, but as a Zestiria fan, I'm going to give it all the time in the world. I can only hope that the epic fights will come back, and a certain moment from the game will be presented in a good way. I don't think ufotable can screw that up to be honest. 5/10 After the first episode.

Idol Jihen - Idol girls (Dietwomen. Yes, Dietwomen) fight politicians with music, in order to become presidents and help the enviroment. *Clap Clap* The idea is the perfect ammount of stupid. All the real politicians are treated like villains. The pacing was incredibly fast, the MC seiyuu is pretty annoying, the story is really mediocre, but the humor is great, both intentinally and unintenionally. 4/10 after the first episode.

Gabriel DropOut - Remeber how I said that Demi-chan wa Kataritai is going to be my favourite anime of the season? I'm taking it all back, this is amazing. After graduating from a school in heaven an angel comes to the real world school and becomes a NEET. Such a great idea, but I didn't expect to like it so much. I already cried from laughter, I have enjoyed every second of it, I can easily look past the little fanservice moments it had. Does it have anything to with the fact that I like moe blobs? Maybe. But I'm sure some people are going to find this just as funny as I did. Please don't disappoint me after such a ridiculously funny first episode. 9/10 After the first episode.

Hand Shakers - This...... this is my least favourite first episode up to this point. The only two things I could tolerate were a few camera angles and the sword made out of cogs. I was annoyed or mad at everything else. Horrible use of CGI and fanservice, annoying characters and their introductions, visuals and camera work that made me mad in every scene, dialogues and monologues that made me facepalm more than once, music that didn't play when needed, but when it played it didn't fit at all, a lot of unnecessarily weird camera angles, art style that I personally don't find fitting or good looking at any moment and there was that one shot of the background, where the quality of the art dropped suddenly. I don't like a single thing. I'm going to continue watching though, in hopes that it can redeem itself a bit, I don't want to leave it at this score. Please have some awesome or cool moments, please do something that I can enjoy. I am cheering for this, even if I hated it so far. 2/10 after the first episode.

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon - Harmless, even with its fanservice. It needs to try harder though, I need to laugh and be happy that I'm watching it. I expect more out of KyoAni, but if it stays like this I won't be too mad, I'll just be disappointed. I'm looking for fun in a SOL cute shows like this, but I got only little. 5/10 after the first episode.

Kuzu no Honkai - This is intriguing to say the least, at first it felt too sexual, but after a bit of time I can understand the feelings of the characters a bit more. Seeing so much sexual tension presented in a serious manner is rare, and I think that doing something this bold should be acknowledged. The comedy can feel out of place at times, it is a pretty dark series after all. Lying to each other and yourself, the feeling of helplessness and confusion, what's right and what isn't are themes that definetely interest me. What helps, is that the characters aren't oversexualized, they're just normal human beings that are in a part of their life where they don't know what to do with themselves. That contrasts nicely with the happy pair of teachers. Hopefully this won't turn out to be just an erotic anime with no substance. I can see this becoming really good, or a trainwreck, but I'm going to stay positive. Easily the most intriguing anime of the season for me so far, and I'll give it a higher score for that. 7/10 after the first episode.

Bang Dream - One episode was enough to tell me that I would most likely enjoy it. The art style is really eye pleasing, the soundtrack is right up my alley, and it's a cute girls show, so of course I'll like it, even if just a tiny bit. The lack of distinctive personalities makes me not want to continue for now. I can defintely see myself watching all of it one day though. Just not now. By the way, their eyes are creepy. It looks like they are demons on close ups. 6/10 after the first episode, put On-Hold. I have too much shows to watch anyway.
