Please note that these are my personal opinions.

So at the time of writing this, I just finished watching Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse so I wanted to write my thoughts and feelings about this anime.

When Muv Luv first started airing, after the first episode I was super hyped. Muv Luv looked like it would be dark, gritty and depressing and coupled with the fact it was a mecha anime, I was expecting big things. Oh how wrong I was.

After the first two episodes, which featured Alternative Japan being raped by the alien force known as the "BETA", we're basically thrown into a harem with a basic plot of "hurr durr we have to make the best Gundams" along with an unhealthy portion of teen angst, basically tossing aside the whole concept of the BETA, which is kind of a big deal considering humanity is driven to near extinction by them.

Things start to get a little better in the Russia Arc of the series, with the BETA making a return and death ensuing. I won't say much more because I don't want to spoil too much of the plot for people who were actually thinking of watching this semi-train-wreck.

So once the Russia Arc finishes, we're essentially thrown into the G-Gundam part of the show. G-Gundam, what the fuck are you talking about? I'm talking about the fact the series features what's essentially a mecha tournament. This is pretty much as you'd expect, main characters fight some dudes, blah blah blah, "we need to make the best TSF". All this going on of course while the BETA are presumably fucking shit up elsewhere.

Things start to get a little more interesting towards the end of the series and what appears to be a slither of plot shining through, but naturally its too late due to the fact they decide to introduce it like 4 episodes before the series is about to end.

I can't really think of many good things about this anime except for the fact that it looks pretty. Seriously, the animation is like the only good thing about this show.

I wouldn't really recommend this show to anyone unless you're looking for an incentive to throw yourself under a bus. I actually like mecha anime and I probably could have blasted through the series in a day or two, but it's taken me like 2 weeks to finish It because I actually dreaded the fact I had to watch it. The initially dark as shit series I was expecting turned into a harem, and I found myself liking virtually none of the characters.

I'll probably do more of these Blog posts on anime I've completed from this point on. I'm terrible at writing so if anyone's actually reading this, deal with it :).
