Story:
The story is based on the boy by the name of Oreki, at first sight he is a normal high school boy, except he is extremely lazy. His motto in life is " If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I have to do it, I'll make it quick." which tells you all about him. He is at high school with his best friend Satoshi who is the direct opposite of Oreki. He is always smiling and always full of energy.
After a while Oreki gets a mail from his sister, in it she request him to join the Classics Club. His sister was once the member of it sometime ago and she wants him to follow in her footsteps due to the club being close to disbanding due to the lack of members. Oreki joins the club and with that decision his life changes. When he goes to the clubroom, a classroom at the 4th floor he meets Chitanda, a very curious girl, who also joins the club and even gets elected as its president. Together they start to solve some mysteries of the clubs past. On the way they meet up with Mayaka who also joins the club. Mayaka went to the same school as Oreki and Satoshi, she was also deeply in love with Satoshi.
Altogether they start to do club activities. Those activities included mostly the curiosity of Chitanda. Oreki was against it most of the time but always gave in when she pressured him. From the first time they meet we can clearly see that Oreki has some feelings for Chitananda. From my point of view the story was really exciting, the way they were solving meaningless cases was rather interesting, although there was to much lack of romance, but that's just my point of view.
Characters:
*Oreki Houtarou
First thing what you notice about this guy is that he is very lazy. The second would be his sharp mind.
But his lazy life was soon disturbed when he joins the Classics Club and meets Chitanda. During the show he slowly develops a small will to do things, which we see in the episode where he remembers his grade school teacher and the teachers passion for helicopters. He even goes so far to actually do some research in the library, which is rather shocking for the rest of the members of the club considering the fact that he usually doesn't even consider doing anything that isn't on his way.
Oreki has a crush on Chitanda and that is clearly seen in the episode where they meet for the first time in the club room.
*Chitanda Eru
Chitanda is really something else. This is the first character that got so badly on my nerves and made me hate her. But than she made me somehow change my mind. So lets see, she is a smart student that's for sure as Satoshi mentioned she was in the top with her grades, she also has a great memory. When something piques her interest she goes nuts. She gets into Oreki's face and says "I'm curious" and doesn't stop until he gives in and helps her solve the mystery that she is curious about.
She has purple eyes which is probably worth mentioning, and she might have a crush on Oreki.
*Fukube Satoshi aka Databse
He calls himself the database, while Oreki refers to him as the guy who has the biggest knowledge of useless things. Satoshi is the opposite of Oreki, smiling and enjoying doing all sorts of stuff. He has a very interesting character. Later in the series we find out that he is obsessed with not being obsessed about anything. This makes obsession makes him reject Mayaka, he actually admitted that he likes her a lot, but that he is afraid of getting obsessed over her. Satoshi envies Oreki for his ability to draw conclusions, and he tried to be like him but gave up on that long ago. They still remain friends even though he sometimes hates that he cant do the same things as Oreki.
*Ibara Mayaka
She has a interesting character to say the least. Mayaka joined the Classics club because of her love, Satoshi. She is also a member of the Library and Manga Society club. Even though Satoshi doges all her approaches, she keeps trying never giving up. As the series goes on we see her making a chocolate heart for Satoshi. He takes it without anyone knowing except for Oreki who later finds it out and confronts him. Satoshi than explains why he didn't give her a clear answer yet. At the end of that episode we see Satoshi calling Mayaka, but there it ends and we cant find out what the answer was or if there even was a answer. Mayaka usually gives her friends nicknames, like for Chitanda Chi-chan which was rather funny and fitting for Chitianda.
Likes:
Characters, they had all their unique personality and it was a real joy watching them work together on solving things, each contributing in their own way. The story wasn't bad also, I would love to see a season 2. The way that Oreki was thinking was the thing I liked the most. I am a huge fan of logical thinking :)
Dislikes:
I didn't like the first opening, it was rather bad for my taste. Chitanda was really annoying when I started watching this, I thought she was overreacting all the time she was curious. It lacked on romance for my taste , I could see some developments in the relationships between them but there were no moves, well except for Mayaka who has taken huge steps towards Satoshi who's answer to her move we don't know (which is rather annoying).
So I finally made it past 3 days of being a member of MAL, I know a huge accomplishment, I should put it on my CV near Times Person of the Year(2006).
Ill use this first blog entry to introduce myself, and tell you what I am going to write about in the future.
Well I am Shole a 21 year old guy who loves to watch and review anime. It has become a great way of spending my free time that was recently increased due to a injury I had.
So far I watched about 20ish anime's so I consider myself a bit of a newbie in the reviewing area, I dont mind constructive critique as long as you don't insult, I am positive tho that most of the hate comments will be for my grammar mistakes...I know I should study more, but if I did so when would I have time to watch anime ?
Anyhow thats the end of my intro and I hope that you will enjoy reading my future posts.
Have a nice day :D
