In an earlier entry, I was kind of trashing Hibike! Euphonium, and as it turns out, that's just a series that just needs time and patience, but now I've got that entry sitting there with a really positive review sitting somewhere else.
I'm glad it turned out well though, and I'm glad to see that KyoAni isn't in the complete rut I thought it was.
I genuinely, genuinely thought that that was a cool show, and in some ways it was reminiscent of Your Lie In April, but not anything like that show at all! If anybody catches my drift? It had the beauty of Your Lie In April, if anything, and not just animation beauty, because god knows KyoAni tops anyone when it comes to that. Some other type of deep, musical beauty, probably.

As another unexpected impression of a series: I really thought Plastic Memories was going to be great, and then it wasn't.
To me, it really wasn't, it was mediocre.
And yet, for some reason, reading everyone's reviews...

They loved it?

Honestly, I find it worrying, because I didn't think it was that great, but I keep seeing these annoying five sentence reviews that are like
"OMG I CRIED SO HARRRD IT WAS SO TOUCHING 10/10"

Was it really, r e a l l y that good? What did I miss? Because I've seen anime that makes me cry and hits me right in the heart or whatever, and Plastic Memories just didn't seem like one of those shows.
What about it really established such a deep emotional connection? What made all these people care so much about Isla?

I actually, genuinely, want some sort of explanation? Or closure or something I don't know. I just don't get it, I don't mean to be rude.
Additionally, I, again, don't mean to be rude, but it's a pet peeve of mine when people can't collect their thoughts enough for a decent, thorough review? Like I try to include as much as I can without making it a dictionary, and I love reading long ones like that because it really persuades me,
so it annoys me just a touch when I see a bulleted list or two sentences on something that is probably the reviewer's first anime besides Naruto.
Like, this isn't persuading me. I'm not going to watch this because you 'CRIED SO HARRRD'. Give me something to work with here, people.

Additionally, additionally,
what is everyone watching for Summer Anime? I've got a huge list, but my intuition isn't always the greatest.

Literally just stumbled across someone freaking out over how similar the art was in two shows--'ITS LIKE ONE'S TOTALLY MIMICKING THE OTHER'.

They are by the same people.
The style is the same because they are the same people oh my god.

Anyway, other things, questions perhaps, statements;
The Grisaia does not work at all for me as an anime. In the visual novel/hentai/ero-game genre, everything about it fits just fine, but then when you try and force it into a pg-13 role nothing really sticks right at all?
But I suppose it's not only the erotic elements that mess with its image as an anime.

With the vn, we're talking a ton of hours dedicated to each girl's story arc--that A TON for each girl. A ton as in a significant amount. And to fit everything into an anime, it's confined within twelve episodes, maybe two or three per girl. It doesn't work, and since each arc is branched off from the others, the continuity required for a full series just isn't there, at least in Kajitsu. Only following Yuuji in Meikyuu and Rakuen, things flow a little smoother, since the he's the only focus.

Back to the ero scenarios though.
In anything hentai related, I would be willing to accept just about any excuse for why sex is initiated, but if you give me an anime with a character that says 'oh yeah by the way I took the virginity of this little traumatized kid I've been watching over and he's cool with it', I'm going to be at least a little bit skeptical.

For me, it's kind of like, if you're going to turn Grisaia into a show, decide whether or not you want it to be hentai. It's really not easy to have that and a regular anime. A ton not easy if you get what I'm saying.

I sincerely, sincerely, SINCERELY hope Kyoto Animation doesn't think Hibike! Euphonium can get by on its looks alone. Yes, we get it, you guys are at the tippy top of the totem pole when it comes to making an anime breathtakingly beautiful, but episode one nearly put me to sleep. The characters were cute, but the cuteness factor of their actions was seriously missing.
Honestly, episode one of an anime is supposed to make a huge impact, and to me, this one seemed lazy as hell. If this is the road KyoAni's heading down, I don't like it.

Edit: Also, does anyone else find it kind of weird watching Nagato Yuki-chan done by Satelight instead? That seems super weird to me.

Closings in on the end of winter anime 2015, and I have to say I didn't get very excited about a lot of the endings I've seen so far. As well, I don't know how excited I am to continue Assassination Classroom, which feels bad to say given how popular it is.
I guess what irks me with that anime is that the same things happens every few episodes to advance the plot: introducing a new character. It's not very thrilling for me because I know this new killer isn't going to successfully assassinate Koro-sensei, because I can see plainly there are still so many episodes left, and then I'm left with a new character that has nothing new to offer. It's kind of killing the anime for me, because I want to like it, but it's getting too predictable and boring.

Speaking of predictable and boring, I finally finished Koufuku Graffiti. Surprise surprise, Ryou reminisces about her grandma, cooks, and then Kirin reaffirms their friendship by screaming in ecstasy over Ryou's cooking. And yet, I was completely content with everything that happened. For a slice of life anime, it was wrapped up very well, and ended exactly the way it should have, with a showcase of delicious food and a get together of all the characters.

I also have to say congratulations Shaft for not incorporating 1001 head-tilts while the characters were talking. I might have enjoyed the anime more just because a lot of the stuff I watch from Shaft is hit or miss. It definitely wasn't a must-watch, but I don't feel like my time was completely and utterly wasted.

On to wrapping up the rest of the stuff on my watching list, getting a break for a week or so, and then piling on a whole new set of anime. What a life it is...

Anime Relations: Absolute Duo
Is anyone else cringing at the amount of poorly placed fanservice in Absolute Duo?
The OP gives the show a very Soul Eater sort of vibe I suppose, but then once I start watching I cringe a little bit.
Every girl's boobs are shaped like oranges and it feels like they got the jiggle physics straight out of Highschool of the Dead, which doesn't work because these particular jugs just don't have the volume for that.
The fact that these girls who apparently kick ass in martial arts and fighting in general also have the ability to trip from the other side of the room and somehow fall directly into the MC's lap is a huge turn off for me. Hopefully if I grit my teeth and persist this is another series that will get better once the plot picks up? Hopefully...

Anime Relations: Koufuku Graffiti
I'm a bit pessimistic about this anime season? I was very excited for most of what I saw listed for fall but for what I've seen so far in winter anime, I'm not really impressed.
Even the slice of life stuff like Koufuku Graffiti, which is usually my genre, isn't keeping me interested.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I should start watching?
