There's no shortage of great anime this season. I mean, I'm keeping up with the most that I've ever kept up with before. I'm also sure that after the end of the season, I'm going to find a few more that I looked over.

I thought now would be a good time to go over just what anime I'm following this season, and give some impressions on them. So, let's do this.

Sword Art Online: Alicization

If you know me, you know I love SAO. Hell, I have a tattoo inspired by it. Despite its flaws, I'm still a huge fan.

This season is unique for me, because it's the first season that I already know what happens. I've completed the arc via the light novels, so, in the beginning, I was curious to see how close the anime would stay to the source material. Believe it or not, the anime before this arc had kept pretty close.

As the anime goes on, I'm lovin' it. However, I'm also slightly disappointed. At the time of this post, episode 9 has just been released, and there has been a few significant scenes cut out of the anime. Of course, the anime can't follow the novel 100%, but there are some scenes that offer great character growth, and I question their absence.

The pacing was good at first, but now it feels off, almost rushed. I mean, c'mon. The aincrad arc was what, 14 episodes? That was literally two books worth of source. Through 9 episodes, this arc has gone through about two and a half books already. Tisk tisk.

Regardless, I'm going to watch it. I love seeing the characters that I developed in my head coming to the life through animation.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

This anime was a pleasant surprise for me. I'm a sucker for a good slice of life anime, and this one is no exception. The relationship between the main characters is really well done, it flows beautifully.

The only thing I'd take away from this show is the supernatural side just doesn't do it for me. I love the characters, and their relationships, but their constant phenomena and their attempt to explain it just isn't for me. I still watch it religiously though.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

I was pretty sure the whole "transported to another world" fantasy setting was over and done with. Then this show came along, and I didn't have much high hopes for it.

I actually enjoy it. It's funny, and entertaining. Sure, it's a typical OP main in another world, but whatever. He's a slime, and he kicks ass. It's all good. The later episodes tried to mess with your emotions, but that didn't really do it for me. I watch this show for laughs, not feels.

Goblin Slayer

Oh boy. This anime took over the anime scene by storm for its graphic first episode. Honestly, I don't know why people were so taken aback by it. It's not like we hadn't had graphic scenes before in anime. It actually caught my attention, like "oh, here's an anime that's not afraid to show the gritty reality of fantasy worlds".

Now that I'm nearing the end of the series, I have to say that I've enjoyed it, even if it is a little predictable. After the initial shock, it's kinda tampered off. There is gore, but nothing truly shocking. The dry humor in it is really well done as well.

Zombieland Saga

After watching Gigguk's video on fall anime, this one caught my eye. I've never watched an idol show before, but this is the first. The first two episodes were truly great and entertaining. Even though later episodes are funny, it kind of lost the initial magic that it had for me. It's like I'm slowly realizing it's just an idol show, and that's not my cup of tea.

I still watch it though. I am noticing that it's almost always the last show I watch for the week. Kind of like an afterthought. Honestly, I'm mostly just watching it for the manager character now.

Well, there are my thoughts on the shows that I'm keeping up with this season. Honestly, five seemed like a lot at first, but it's not really too much. It's just difficult for me to fit in anime through everything I'm doing day to day.

Anyway, if you enjoyed this article, be sure to stop by and read more articles that I've written. On my personal site, I like to write about anime, coding, and gaming, among other things.

Thanks for reading.
