Chainsaw Man
this being the popular anime of the season, i watched with a group of good friends of mine (you know who you are <3). outside of being a visually striking high-octane battle shonen with an engaging cast of hunters and devils, there is a surprising amount of depth to this series. i can't help but feel like denji and co's situation with being tied to the public safety bureau parallels how we are tied to the capitalist economic system and continue to feed the machine with no easy way out. denji's state of indentured servitude is also paralleled with his stunted emotional state, where he simply sees people as dispensers for food, shelter, and sex due to how he was treated in his formative years. i am eager for part 2 of this series, and i would like to see denji learn how to form true emotional bonds (there are inklings of this with power) while uncovering the true nature of his relationship with the public safety bureau.

Gake no Ue no Ponyo
eh i feel bad about rating it so low because, like all ghibli films, there's a ton of charm and passion that went into it. but realistically, the movie is targeted for five year olds so as someone in their twenties i didn't get a whole lot out of it

Gyakuten Saiban: Sono "Shinjitsu", Igi Ari!
the cgi is *rough* on this one. the studio didn't really find their footing with the series until s2

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai
everyone really likes this part but idk I found it draggy and in dire need of a focus. where people praise it for its SOL elements, I find a lack of cohesion and general purpose. still a fun series though and you'll probably like pt4 way more than me

Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai
quite different from the typical jojo's fare; it focuses much more on developing self-contained mini-thrillers from the viewpoint of horror mangaka rohan kishibe. rohan strangely makes for a compelling protagonist for a series like this, as his dedication to providing authentic writing for his horror manga constantly puts him in dire situations where even a broken stand like heaven's door isn't much help
