What at first seems to have the makings of a true epic quickly bogs itself down in reverse-harem genre conventions as the hooks of the political intrigue fade away into a continual parade of attractive men bound by blood into sycophantic devotion to a female lead whose character arc would be compelling were it not disappointingly disjointed.
