Azumanga Daiou The Animation
Jokes were funny at first then repeated over and over, till it felt like it was beating a dead horse. Same issue Nichijou had. Would have benefited greatly from being on a 6 episode OVA.
Hinted at possible character growth in episode 19, then did nothing with it. This was not helped by none of the other episodes having any character growth in them, and thus having the characters be completely unchanged despite going through all three years of high school. |

Bartender
The god-tier sound-track really helped salvage the score on this one.
Bartender: Episodes 7, 8 and 9 were all amazing, other episodes ranged from mediocre to above average. Episode 1 was very solid and would have been a 9/10 had this been a one shot like Death Parade. I think this show really should have been a 4 episode OVA consisting of episodes 1, 7, 8, and 9 and in that order as 9 actually made a really good ending episode. Otherwise you then have to sit through the disaster episode 10 was, and episode 11 wasn't much better, as it really left a bitter taste when it was over. Had this been only those 4 episodes I would have given this series a 9, possibly a 10. If you were to watch this series I would recommend watching those and skipping the rest, although stuff like episode 6 would be watch-able if you wanted more. |

Chokkyuu Hyoudai Robot Anime: Straight Title
This show does everything wrong from garbage CG animation that is worse than 1999 Digimon CG, from a mostly non-existant soundtrack to playing the only three pieces of sound-track over and over each episode, to terrible characters, and a plot that is repetitive as the same jokes are told over and over each episode that were not funny the first time let alone the twelfth.
This show is definitely in the running for worst anime ever and is in the top three for sure. |

Dragon Ball
So much filler, not even sure why 79-81 even exist.
Season 4 turned this into FlashbackBall, episodes start at the near 4 minute mark thus making episodes have less than 18 minutes of run time. The flashbacks and long time spend on facial expression made most episodes have less than 5 minutes of content. Guns started as comic relief then were taken as serious despite being shown doing little to no damage against Goku before he started training. Death was shown to be serious then the Dragonballs removed most of the fear of death. Then characters start dying repeatedly in Season 4 to then make fun of death in episode 112 by having Pilof fall from thousands of feet and land relatively unharmed like it was an episode of Pokemon. This show has a hard time keeping a consistent tone on anything. Ending at 148 would have been far better than shoving more filler down our throats. |

FLCL
I do understand the plot is about adolescence, yet this does not make up for the poor characters and characterization, and the pile of garbage they call a plot.
This is a good summary someone made: The amount of pretension required to praise this anime is overwhelming. It seems that the writers were convinced that rapidly alternating between art styles, animating grandiose nonsense, and neglecting a coherent story are viable substitutions for writing something that's actually entertaining. The problem with this show is that if everything is ridiculous, then nothing is ridiculous. I love surrealism, grandiosity and not always understanding everything until the end, but FLCL tries so hard to take everything to an extreme that it struggles to be coherent or meaningful. Perhaps this is why fans are convinced that this show is complex - the idea that they so thoroughly wasted two and a half hours of their life on something with absolutely no purpose is disconcerting, so they fabricate some "deeper meaning" for the show when in reality, there isn't one. Or, at the very least, there isn't one that can be attained without grasping at straws. And that's not a meaning worth discussing. |

Garo: Guren no Tsuki
Episode 14's animation was really solid, unfortunately the CGI in earlier episodes was extremely awkward, as well the 2-D animation was lack-luster. Not sure if this was done out of house, but it was handled completely differently in the animation department if anyone can confirm this that would be fantastic.
Episode 14 fixed the CGI issues, but more importantly showed some very well done 2-D animation. I would have loved to have given this show a 2/10 for how almost average episode 14 was, but after that ending (this was supposed to be 26 then 24 and then cut once more to 23) it felt like it cut out rather than ended. Episode 20: We have the most developed characters fighting for their own ideals which are clearly presented to the viewer, and then they only show 2 swords clashes for it? Seriously? This is the embodiment of everything wrong with this series; we spend time on the wrong things and poorly use the other time given. We have the two most developed characters in a struggle against each other, this could have been used to develop each of these characters instead of being set-up; and then over with in less than 20 seconds of fighting. The time given to this fight was not nearly enough, nor was the time given on this fight used correctly. They just repeated their ideals over and over instead of really trying to reason with each-other or understand each other. This fight could have changed the characters and/or how they see the world and each other instead they are left unchanged by this should have been major fight; wasted potential again. |

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri
This started great, then episode 3 happened. This show had an amazing start with modern army versus medieval army and all the complications of that. Then it decided to through it all away in exchange for shitty fan service moe-blob girls.
This show went off the face of a cliff once they went back through the gate in episode 8. It's like this show was trying to make sure they had everything wrong with anime in it like they were going through the checklist. The only thing they were missing was a highschool setting. |

Well the last arc was solid this did not make up for the weaker arcs it proceeded.
The comedy has not changed from episode one causing many episodes to drag on for far longer than they should have. Many of the episodes could have been half episodes which was done later in this season although arriving far to late and appearing far too little. The second last arc was severely weakened by this need of every character has to fight to be interesting, although this is a show aimed at young teens and is really apparent in this arc. Gintama doesn't try to be anything, yet at the same time tries to be everything, instead of being even average in all of these categories it comes off as extremely mediocre in all of them as they destroy each other instead of help build themselves up due to the poor consistency of the story and poorly thought-out story line. |

Breakdown of first Op
This opening represents four of the characters in the story and their desires. The unicorn represents Ayumi, the Lion Takumi, the Dog Yuuji, and finally the duck as Hagumi. The unicorn a fictional animal represents the traits of innocence, beauty, and nativity. Ayumi initially in the story lacks life experience and this is seen with how easily she accepts people while not completely grasping the situation. When a unicorn becomes "real" it is merely a horse which is seen as strong, independent, and free. We see Ayumi become many of these traits as she gains experience in her journey as she enters the workforce and is no longer as sheltered from the burdens of the working world. This transition is seen by revealing the statue to the viewer and the statue to reality. The figure is made of a malleable material thus representing how easily it can be changed and is just like our characters in the story. The Lion represents Takumi with its traits of pride, strength, and dominance. The statue becomes money and we see this trait in how Takumi tries to amass wealth throughout the series to establish his dominance in being able to take care of his woman if she is unable to work. The statue is initially a dull metal and begins to shine as Shuuji their professor is not only polishing their skills as artists, but trying to make them ready to face the real world as well. The dog represents loyalty which Shuuji shows to Hagumi and follows throughout no matter the changing circumstances. The statue is then built up from the four leaf clover, a symbol of luck although used throughout the series in different ways such as conveying feelings through actions rather than words. The natural statue represents Hagumi's upbringings from the countryside and her desire to create art close to nature as well as her general interest in it. The duck represents Hagumi's adaptability in art and the different areas she can accel at, just like a duck being able to thrive on lake's while still retaining flight. The final flowers blooming represent not only Hagumi's different view on reality, but the blooming friendships and growth these characters experience over the course of the series. The flowers burst off revealing the gold, polished individuals ready for the world, although not always strong enough to stand on their own melt into the syrup to represent the honey part of the title as the statue come from a clover which gives an ominous feeling to the show as the audience does not know if they will succeed or not. |

Houkago no Pleiades (TV)
Weak characters, weak plot, but well produced with a high quality of animation, and a above average sound score.
Another looks nice show that does nothing, till the last couple of episodes. Brought up some interesting ideas at the end, as well as an interesting unexpected ending. This show really stepped up its game at the end as it was very mediocre for the majority of its run time. |

Hunter x Hunter (2011)
A list of some of the issues I had with this abomination.
Slow Childish Start. We see blood get replaced by flowers and what not again reinforcing this childish atmosphere. None of the arcs are linked well together and are very disjointed and inconsistent. Instead of focusing on an overall story, the arcs feel like a bunch of mini-stories building up to a main one, and they focus way too much on the individual arcs instead of an overall story, making it seem like a huge mess. One day, you've got a crime thriller, another one a video game, and then a bug apocalypse. In the Yorknew City arc: instead of seeing the bombastic conclusion to a story about a person exacting revenge on the monsters who killed his family, we get an ending that reinforces the tired-out clichés of friendship and not becoming the monster that you set out to destroy. The useless Palm: in the training she threatened Gon's and Killua's life which was itself a terrible joke as both of those characters were vastly stronger than her. In the fantasy world she is somehow stronger than them she could have easily stayed somewhere else as Gon and Killua had a large sum of money at this point. Palm again shows her true colors as a filler character when brought into the CA arc plan. Her job is to infiltrate the base and possibly let them through the door had the portals failed to be set-up. This is a terrible plan as they never could make it through the front doors initially as that was why they wanted to create the portals and use them. This is also another issue as she posses a liability that she maybe caught and thus have the whole plan exposed. In the best case scenario she isn't exposed and the portals work, she still has to be rescued all for the sake of making the show longer. As well this anime forced a mediocre double standard after killing the final villains of this arc. First we are sad and shocked at how rapidly they kill off characters to make the show seem dark and edgy. Then when the ants are dealt with even after they have killed 10s to probably 100s of thousands of people we have zero recourse for this and act like it never occurred. Netero defeats the King not with Nen but with a bomb and the King's own pride which again questions the relevance of nen in this arc. We also have well written characters like Leorio get thrown away. Leorio was a character with the motivation for becoming a Hunter stemmed from the desire to save his (now deceased) childhood friend from a curable illness whose surgery cost an exorbitant amount of money. That's an amazing motivation to become a Hunter, and I get the feeling that he could've accompanied Gon and Killua on their adventures as a medic/mentor kind of character. Unfortunately, he just HAD to be assigned to comedic relief. It's sad that comedic relief characters in most shows nowadays have awesome back stories and ultimately end up getting screwed over because they are the designated idiot?.This is a trend in anime and manga that REALLY needs to stop. Episodes 13, 26 not needing to exist and downplay the show by reinforcing that the show is aimed at kids that have ADHD and have the memory span of gold fish. Recap episodes are bad and stating other anime have them is a flawed argument in itself. That is equivalent to saying because Angel Beats has plot holes it's okay Charlotte has some to. To the filler CA arc.The "Chimera Ants" episodes were a huge switch in the anime and it made it feel like the ants were not powerful enough to make this whole anime about them. The other issue is how they explained the unbelievable power the ants have and the ways they got those powers were unreasonable as it contradicts the way this whole anime shows how hard is it is to acquire this kind of power (Nen). As for character design they are supposed to be ants yet we have a pink panda and a penguin. This is contradicting that the author wanted to make a dark serious arc when he choose extremely childish character designs. So much time was spent on a Shogi variant that was poorly explained to draw out the plot and make a random to cover for poor writing and reduce research needed had they used a real game to make it more relatable and interesting. Gon's Adult power-up was poor writing and a massive deus ex machina. Killua's brother Alluka is a walking Deus ex machina and completely destroyed the fight where Gon had to give up a portion of his life to gain a large amount of strength. This not only invalidates a large amount of the motives in this fight it also weakens later risks as Alluka can now heal Gon with little to no risk. |

Kuroko no Basket 3rd Season
By far the worst season of Kuroko. The first game was the best game of the franchise and really made the last two feel lack luster. The Shotaku versus Kaijou would have been a far better game than Kuroko versus Akashi which we knew the outcome and involved numerous nakama power-ups and plot armor.

Fanservice completely destroyed this show as it destroyed the main cast. This show tried to be very thought provoking, but came off shallow due to its zero respect for its characters and mis-handling of its plot.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Re:Zero is just a mashup of all the trending genres and topics that have proven to be successful. Its a show that's guaranteed to be a hit and it was planned that way from the beginning.
Each element is taken with a pinch and then mixed into a giant melting pot that fans are enticed into with promises like MMORPG settings, a range of colourful characters, dark psychological matters, etc. That's just a surefire way of creating a popular anime. There is honestly very very little that makes this anime genuinely good, it just skims over the top of every trendy anime genre and subtopic available for the sole sake of gaining a larger audience. It just gives the audience exactly what it asks for and brings nothing of its own to the table. To put it simply, all Re:Zero is is a mash-up of Stein's Gate and Akame ga Kill. Visceral deaths, medieval setting, time-travelling and an MC that utilises this time-travelling to discover the best possible path for all the characters. Re:Zero is simply a far too perfect creation derived from these popular genres to be a mere coincidence. A narcissistic protagonist being humbled by the realisation that life doesn't revolve around him isn't a great revelation if the show goes out of its way to constantly point it out. Being mentally exhausted from the toll of dying constantly isn't eye-opening if the show literally has to tell you it is. Subtext ceases to hold meaning if the creators have a habit of making its intent obvious. This is the problem that many high-strung shows have, where they don't trust the viewer to pick up on the clues themselves. Good subtextual content can only be good if the creators don't over-extend their control over how easily it can be discovered. The concept of "being subtle" seems non-existent in Re:Zero as every profound detail is forced to be an ostentatious display. Subaru's mental breakdowns are so utterly glorified with it being activated by the flip of the writer's switched to the fact that a little chat with best grill makes everything okay again. The show boasts about its "psychology" but its difficult to justify it. His ability to conveniently respawn to previous checkpoints is a gimmick that so many people fall into, you mean Subaru gets to respawn all the way back to a safe period of time whilst keeping all his memories, not suffering any real damage and making sure everyone else is fine too? How very convenient that is. If respawning to checkpoints is the only way to advance the narrative at least add an interesting twist where Subaru is forced to make a difficult decision where someone else takes impact. To sum up, Re:Zero is a half-assed effort at creating a show that fans are bound to be intrigued by with its trendy topics. Its a sad attempt at creating a clever but bold show that so many viewers are tricked into. This show has zero suspense since anytime something goes wrong, Subaru just wakes up in a nice comfy bed knowing exactly what not to do next time, it isn't the clever show it tries to be either. Whenever it does attempt to appear intellectual it manages to let every single being on the planet know in a bid to ascertain that the viewer acknowledges what the show managed to do. The writers literally beg you to notice what they've done, in one of the scenes the camera shakes to an extreme level, Subaru is given big bulging eyes, his expression is manic to the point where his mouth almost foams, the lighting is dimmed, everything bathes Subaru in a constant shadow. I think we all get it now, we all saw what you did there, aren't you "clever"? I can't stress it enough how fake this show is when it comes to emotions. If the happy moments felt a bit too inflated with random rose peddles flying around and kawaii-level faces, then guess what: it's inflated. If sadness felt unauthentic with instantaneous water works and elastic expressions at the drop of a hat, then guess what: it's unauthentic. Deep down you know what you're seeing is over exaggerated, and after time has settled and you reminisce about key events, that would become clearer than ever. Re:Zero is a novelty act that blinds you with flurries of action and plot twists, but the moments the spectacle is over, what would remain is the realisation that what you held dear was nothing more than snake oil sold by a quick-witted businessman. |

Another show that would have been god tier had the protagonists been in university rather than highschool as many of the issues and attitudes of characters felt out of place for their age group especially when they were in grade 10.

Episode 10 we have 1939 Panzer III's with "bombers" (mages) that would have outclassed anything even during the Korean war. The mages alone would have made trench warfare non-existent (could make some argument that mages are so limited in number they can't break through the trench lines), but the mass production of well advanced tanks?
Mary Sue MC doesn't help with becoming the strongest because of being the MC with special power given for zero reason. We see zero character growth and almost non-existent development of all the characters, with little development for Viktoriya. Fights are okay with little tension as the main group is so overpowered compared to everything and with no reasoning either. |
